Heavy metal is slower and heavier. Thrash is about as fast as it gets, but with actual instrumentation, and a real guitar player like Dave Mustain. Just because you think one song is heavy metal, that is not even heavy metal, don't mean the band is a heavy metal band.

There's nothing wrong with Panic at the Disco though. They're just a different genre of music. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out Of is one of the most tastefully done albums done in that style. (Don't mention their second album that sucked though). Pantera is a niche, and they do it damn well. Don't bash other genres because they aren't thrash. That's just petty and ignorant. Not enough people appreciate good music regardless of genre. Too much bullshit regarding X genre or Y band.
