I find this really, really interesting.. It also raises a few interesting questions. Do you think people who have gone through certain hardships in life are more likely to react and help, when they see others in similar situations? Also, it seems as though two people together are so much stronger than one person alone. I think part of the reason why the guys who did react, did what they did is because they were two guys (who can back each other up) not one.

Not just bystander effect here, there are many reasons why these people didn't act. For instance, they might've thought that the man was the girl's uncle (if they even heard her say that "you're not my dad"). They might've assumed that this was just another parent or guardian punishing the child. The point that I'm driving at is that there is no one way that an abduction happens, and most people have never seen one occur, so they have an inherent difficulty in recognizing an abduction.

People tend not to pay attention to kids when they are whining or screaming. Thus, when these people were walking by, they likely just passed the girl off as a little kid whining or getting punished by their parent or guardian. With all of these variables, this experiment establishes no control and is not scientific.

I find this really, really interesting.. It also raises a few interesting questions. Do you think people who have gone through certain hardships in life are more likely to react and help, when they see others in similar situations?
