A system of micropayments will allow viewers the quick & easy access while content providers can get their money. This way, we can enjoy tv episodes or movies or books or audio books through youtube.com or amazon.com or whatever.com and pay from the same system, usually a few pennies.
I saw a commercial in which a dorky 19th century guy starting sing a dorky song to some kids about how you don't need toys if have imagination and then him and his song were mockingly joked off because the ad was selling a new smart phone. Go figure.
I agree - tv & vid games kills the passion for creative expression, reading & making things - the best things about childhood too! I don't have a tv & I hate vid games too - brain killers! Also religion can destroy children from having a free spirit & love of nature & mythology & feminity, etc.
yes tech does have an effect - i got my laptop last year and since then i have really annoyed myself by going on it instead of reading and imagining :(

I just rented the movie off of netflix, I liked everything about the movie and Lily Cole is so freaking gorgeous. Of course seeing the last performance of Heath Ledger. an instant classic of a movie. Gotta see this again......on shrooms LOL
I completely disagree that the film was focused on material wealth. Has she even seen the film? It was a freemasonary symbolic laden imaginative film.
I like how over half the comments on this video are of guys drooling over the lady interviewer. . . hardly any comments on the movie or the actual theme that was presented to comment on.
Sad really.
But I think tech can limit people and it can free people. It's a very, very complex theme.
Tech has affected us as the human race as much as any other advance it's more of a how we think, but I don't thing it's affected us by the ability to think. btw Molly you are way prettier than Lily!
Technology has affected my patience to let an idea grow and to imagine. I could easily google anything I imagine and I'd probably find someone has already imagined it too... it opens the world up but also somehow seals it up as well... and you just have to have guts to actually go ahead and keep imagining and thinking up ideas and exploring anyway.
well why douldn't anybody create what they imagine...without it...we wouldn't have great artists like Gilliam. Although it does but some sort of clam in what we can imagine and express.
I think its the opposite cellphones and technology have forced kids to imagine. rather than being with someone you imagine that you are with them. Technology has alos allowed me to be more creative. Considering many great computer programs like photoshop, gimp, painter, autodesk ect. taht actually allow me to be as creative as possible for i no longer have to buy infinate art supplies including pencils and paint. this also allows me to be able to have all the tools i need to be creative.
My word, spam. I grew up without watching a lot of TV and with no video games and I am and remain a very imaginative person. Whether or not the lack of technology my friends had has anything to do with it, well... who knows. This interview certainly made me want to see the movie, though.
@calthyechild Personally I don't think so. I was exposed to a lot of TV, video games, etc. and I feel that they have actually helped me maintain my imagination. I occasionally write scripts for student films. Really, I think a person's imagination is inspired by their experiences, so they're not better or worse, just different. The show Reboot, for example, is a sci-fi/fantasy story based around video games, computers, and the internet, and it is very imaginative.
As a child I had trouble learning to read. The result was I refused to do reading assignments. At the end of the second grade my dad forced me to sit at the dinner table with nothing to do for the an entire summer. The lack of external stimulus forced me to develop a powerful internal world. People are amazed at some of the things that I have cooked up. Like the notion of everything I made for a sci-fi series I intend to write that a physics PHD I showed it to refused to shoot it down.
anyone think Lily Cole and Molly could be sisters? They looked kind of similar especially with molly's hair straightened...never heard of that Film...seems kinda strange...something Tim Burton would do...Ill look into it :D
your dress is so ... sparkly! I think science and tech generally make people smarter, and thus enhances their creativity.

You made an oblivious and dumb response to my comment and now trying to make ME look bad? You're such a twat. Don't even bother making videos in January, they'll be shit.

Wow. this is why I love the internet! there is a tiny miss-communication and it starts a huge argument were people are throwing half-baked facts like there freakin arguments. ur 13! U don't know the name of an actres., yeah I do, i was talking about someone else. Duh, ur dumb. this is why world peace is never gonna happen.
PS this movie looks awesome. and I think movies ca build imagination as well as the internet, witha a proper education. but cut and paste Micheal Bay-esque movies can kill one just as easy.
Molly whenever I see you you have an effect on my imagination :) sorry :)
The web can stimulate your imagination, It's kids toys, If you have a toy spaceship that takes off and lands and makes all the noises you would've made pretending a pencil is a spaceship, that can limit the development of our imagination.
I don't believe that technology inhibits imagination, because in order for technology to progress, the use imagination to think outside the box is needed... HOWEVER, the individuals that utilize technology passively tend to degrade their minds as they allow tech to control their lives and not think for themselves.
excellent interview, molly. and i would have to agree with terry. we are so bound and swamped with overstimulation, for many of us we see almost no need for imagination. we almost completely see the world as catered to us, rather than think of how the world could truly be perceived. you see it every day while walking, seeing people on their cell phones, ipods, media players, shutting out the world around them, oblivious to the true reality, while creating our own unknowingly. great vid...
I can feel this manthing crawling up inside my mind, filling it with boobs, i just cant,.. no longer,.. concentrate,.. so,.. must,... think,.. of tits,... help,..
He had begun filming this movie before he died. Rather than casting a whole new character, they transformed him and Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped in to play the parts. I'm not sure whether or not there was any transformations planned prior to Heath's death.
I agree but it's not just the USA...the whole world has an absence of thought, turning to easy slogans and following ideas with no understanding of them.
Technology limits our imaginations in the sense that it is the
apex of what our imaginations and resources can conjure in real life. Technology certainly can be "the next best thing" but people always will have the ability to make it better.
seen the film already when it was released over here in the uk a few months ago. it is a wonderful film with gorgeous cgi. the story is touching and I wish I could visit the world of Dr. Parnassus
Tech can be used for great things if we use it wisely and not have it control every aspect of our life...of course the problem is usually people are to stupid and lazy to do creative things with it and not be completely absorbed in it.
Can you imagine how much creative genius (Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Twain, Van Gogh, etc.) would have been lost if these people just sat around watching tv and playing video games when they were kids?
How do you know it wouldn't? By your logic people in poverty and people that live in isolated rural communities are the most creative people in the world.
People in poverty and people who live in isolated rural communities (i.e. Amish) are far less likely to watch as much TV or play as much video games as say, middle-upper class people in the city. They are more akin to people during Shakespeare's era; according to your logic they would be more likely to be creative geniuses.
Technology has greatly expanded the world of millions of people, and provides an open platform for communication and creation. This doesn't sound counterproductive to art.

@repeinao Agreed, amazing how the make up makes her face rounder and eyes look smaller.
You have been misled Molly, ironically by the same bourgeois attitudes exposed as worthless in the movie.
It is ironic.

Technology limits our imaginations in the sense that it is the
apex of what our imaginations and resources can conjure in real life. Technology certainly can be "the next best thing" but people always will have the ability to make it better.

Tech can be used for great things if we use it wisely and not have it control every aspect of our life...of course the problem is usually people are to stupid and lazy to do creative things with it and not be completely absorbed in it.

Can you imagine how much creative genius (Shakespeare, Michelangelo, Twain, Van Gogh, etc.) would have been lost if these people just sat around watching tv and playing video games when they were kids?
sevendueceoffsuit 2 years ago
How do you know that their creative genius wouldn't be enhanced?
runevirage 2 years ago
You are probably right. If Michelangelo would have been able to play world of warcraft, the sistine chapel would look way cooler.
sevendueceoffsuit 2 years ago
How do you know it wouldn't? By your logic people in poverty and people that live in isolated rural communities are the most creative people in the world.
runevirage 2 years ago
That is not what I said at all. People who are poor or live in rural communities watch tv and play video games too.
sevendueceoffsuit 2 years ago
People in poverty and people who live in isolated rural communities (i.e. Amish) are far less likely to watch as much TV or play as much video games as say, middle-upper class people in the city. They are more akin to people during Shakespeare's era; according to your logic they would be more likely to be creative geniuses.
Technology has greatly expanded the world of millions of people, and provides an open platform for communication and creation. This doesn't sound counterproductive to art.

You're right, I'm wrong, goodnight.
