Organ registration - French Baroque on traditional English Harrison & Harrison

@latribe, is it common to couple all of the manuals to the Great on an English organ as it is on an American organ (at least couple the Swell and Choir to the great)? Just curious.

No organ can play it all, we need to just live with, and be creative with what we have to work with.

If the organ is in a church, I always think about the needs of the service music first, the literature second.

I know the Godalming instrument well, living but 15 miles or so from it - where is this Harrison?

The Tierce and the Vox Humana at Godalming are both non-original (having been added by F. H. Browne in 1999), and various stops (including the Chancel Great) are later additions by Brindley and Foster.

Hi! It's in the chapel on top of the hill and sadly felt to be out of fashion but I still think it's a magnificent instrument!

It is interesting how selective registration may result in a reasonably convincing interpretation of the Baroque, even on a H&H 1920s organ! The acoustic here at Charterhouse also helps!

Thanks - glad useful - it opens up a whole new world of repertoire in which Bach is not the only soundscape . . .

I tried a Hill today at Godalming - interesting instrument with a Tierce on the Choir - so especially useful, and a Vox Humana as well as Oboe on the Swell. Useful trumpets which work well with the Octave coupler and mixture.

Yes - a French Montre is more relaxed than English Diapasons. Main sound is Bourdon 8 Prestant (Principal) 4

Some interesting and useful suggestions there. I'm encouraged to go and experiment with its transferability to my usual organ. (Mine is - or, more accurately, was - a Hill. Thankfully, I see that Gt diapasons are left out of your registration schemes!!!!) Thanks!
