  • Memories of waiting for Black Power to be played floor filled with Stompers melting the soles of there shoes. And who can forget the faithful 3 before 8

  • Hey, anyone know the name of the track at 3:58??

  • I was a hardcore mod back in the day and stuck rigidly to the mod/rudeboy/skinhead beat but these soul boys and girls had some fucking classy moves.

  • nice vid :) nice idea to add moloko, gives the old wigan feel, did the same myself, ktf

  • This is footage from the Moloko video Familiar Feeling - their homage to northern soul - amazing!

  • Oh take me back to Wigan Pier, the best all night sessions ever. And no drugs either, just blootered and danced all night. Those were such happy days. I just wish I could back and do a back flip again. Would probably end up in a ward if I tried today llf.

  • I go back in time everytime i hear these toons memories Eh!

  • anyone able to post a track list for this?

  • Is there a good video on youtube breaking down Northern Soul/Motown/Mod dance steps for beginners? I'm a white American in Nashville and I REALLY don't know anybody to learn dance steps from.

  • @feedkillchain

search youtube for a guy called minestra3, from japan he has loads of videos up of Japanese soulies learning.

hope this helps, KTF from the UK

  • @feedkillchain

Hi, I am really pleased to know that you would like to learn the steps to Northern Soul dancing, but to be honest with you, You really have to dive in with that banging beat and make up your own routine. If you look at the Youtube videos you will see that there are the basic moves which you can alter the speed to and then there are front and back drops for the more ambitious, and spinning takes a lot of practice!! I used to to go to "The Casino" and "The Torch" and I am proud.

  • anyone know the track fro which starts at 4-00 mins please

  • I danced to this in a Competition, as I did a sumersault into the splits, I caught my heel in the cable and disconected the turn table= Bumpber bump, dor to der berrrrrrrr. = total embaresment

  • MY GOD AMASING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TOP STUFF :)

  • This funky stuff is more Blackpool than Wigan

  • The sounds are and will remain timeless, an ever essential part of the NS scene. The scene continues in continuing recall of the 'old timers' and hearfelt appreciation of the young blood keeping, keeping on. 'Slay me now' but this stuff is so very, very distant from the very working class roots that emerged in the mid 60's and on some. NS in truth can not become nor embraced by the middle classes, they don't get it, never did and never will!

  • WHO THE HELL'S FRANK WILSON? By Pete Mckenna THEATRE PRODUCTION coming in 2011. New book MIS-SPENT MEMOIRS OF NORTHERN SOUL also in the works. Check out the NIGHTSHIFT FACEBOOK Page,.

  • Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end!

Last time I tried to dance like I used to do in the 70's I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. The mind is willing but the body I am afraid is way past its best.

  • drwhatson you saying that the first reggae scene was full of divvie,s . whitey wanna be

  • i went to the casino from 72 through to about 76 but for me it got a bit comercial and the dance was not dance but acrobatics.yes i done drop backs spins etc but it was in time to the music.not how many tricks you could get in before the sound ended.some great sounds have emerged since i stopped going to the casino,so keep the scene going cos its to good to pass away.

    pete from hemel ktf

  • Iam in my 30th year, wot memories i have of the scene, ive been kinda lucky over the years as i have worked away from stockport for 22yrs, i have been too almost every soul venue in the UK, it is hard to explain to anyone when you get asked what is n/s, i always think first then explain the best i can, thet look at me daft, i just dont get it, keep the faith.

  • brill video and top tracks ktf

  • the hank jacobs track is awesome KTF

  • Iknow the Torch. and ofcourse souled boy

filmed in stoke. we all had those KTF things omn denim in the boothen end.

  • come on whatson + goldie, thing is i was a kid @ casino, but now i'm more than a match for some of the dancers back then, true it went pop'y,and us old 'uns have heard so many tunes that we get selective,ns is a living scene+ like life, it evolves[or should do],everybodies got to start somewhere+ the scene NEEDS new blood to survive ,at 50+,there is only so much reminising i can handle, stop bitching, get dancin+ keep yr mind + ears open ,ktf/skf p

  • i think the same as you bud,all northern followers are soul bros....we have to K-T-F....

  • Cracking vid. Wigan Casino the first few years was awesome!!!. I personally see all Northern Soul followers as Soul Bros that what Keeping the faith is all about. KTF

  • i agree im 17 n travel everyware to all differnt venues n guna first weekenders this year love it

  • 10 out of 10!

    Graham.

  • what responce do u want bighamps,or should that be no idea, i was born in wigan and the casino was the best dance hall anywhere in britan.yyour just a dick who probably cant dance.

  • Hey Dave, bighamps can't even walk!

  • last stop for us before wigan nutsford services for a drink and something for our headaches { not } lol then on to wigan feeling a lot better

  • mmm, i had "really" bad head at stoke mr squad...lol

  • 4 stomping instrumentals from the golden era of Northern Soul !!!,.ktf.

  • whatson what problem do you have with wigan casino,i had many great nights there and danced to many great sounds.i seem to remember from a previouse post you used to go to the highland rooms.and im sure you had great nights there too, both are remembered with great fondness and many happy memories, hmmm did the casino eclipse the mecca in most peaples memories.live with it mate the casino is far more loved than the mecca will ever be.................fact pete from hemel ktf

  • Well since you ask, the "problem" I have with Wigan Casino is that it was largely populated by divvies who wouldn't know a real Soul record if it bit them on the arse, and the stuff usually put up on here as so-called Wigan "classics" - almost ALWAYS started off at other clubs! For the record, I went to both venues and many, many more besides.

  • ha, ha , well whats a real soul record then mr watson? and you went to both venues!! you sound like a bit of a divvie to me and im glad that every soul do i go to isnt mostly attended like snob soulies like you mate...( got to be the original label aswell i bet eh?)

  • Well it seems you don't even know the 70s definition of "divvie" (someone who wasn't into SOUL MUSIC as it happens) And obviously it follows that you DON'T actually know what defines a Soul record. Here's a clue - It ain't the much of what post 75 Wigan was playing to it's (largely) teenybopper audience. Glad you go to "Soul do's" Let's hope they play records that are better than you're evidently used to listening to.

  • Shame Wigan Casino wasn't in my town / nearest cities: Johnstone Paisly Glasgow.

I was mesmirised when caught a glimpse of dancers on TOTP!! i still want more!! Want to go

  • I'm the person who burned down that lousy rat hole Wigan Casino. There. I confess!

(I only wish I'd done the Soul world a favour and done it 8 years earlier)

  • it's come to me now,the pub on kiddey-bidgnorth road near shatterford-alveley was nautical william, stone manor was bromsgrove rd side of kiddey. i used to go to the factory in droad street b'ham and also the midnight city near b'ham bull ring, not many will remember them as it was 1966.

  • You lot need to grow old gracefully. In the same way that you laugh at silly old farts at a tea dance, the rest of the world are laughing at you.

You are in your 40s. Please don't hold on to the past. It's embarrassing.

  • the past, its bigger now tthan ever. new tunes regularly... when you stop enjoying it then its over... whens your next tea dance

  • I was expecting a slightly more venomous response. oh well. obviously the more erudite types follow northern soul.

I'll have to go and wind up some hunt saboteurs. they threaten to kill me!

  • good mix with keb in the video

  • fucking nice !!!!!! i love it

  • think it was the stone manor

  • i remember going to summerhill at kingswinford with some of my baggies friends, think it was west mids soul jockey mke hollis dj a few times there?,what was the venue outside alveley on kidderminster to bridgnorth stretch of road called?.

  • wow! summerhill kingswinford - takes me right back! saw a few top acts there in the early 70's. also remember a big pub on the corner of kiddy/bridgenorth rd meself - but forget the bloody name! Cats in wolves every sat nite too!

  • Lets get this page full of Wolves soulboys from Sedgley, Gornal, Wombourne and Bridgenorth Ktf

  • My bro and I were from halesowen - does that count? used to go to Cats wolves every sat ('72 onwards), oldhill plaza, tiffanys long lane blackheath (sun nights after wigan) and many more

  • my dads still got his leather slidy shoes from his soul days in the 70s, his gang was from wolves, pete ethridge, rog walker, andy / ronnie whitehouse, the bunge, nige bates, bryn lane , ferret anyone remember them

  • im comun home baby, weres the talc,, my solathios are burnin

  • heheh - the old solacios....had 3 pairs....best shoes for spinning

  • VERY NICE THANK YOU

  • Wow, gr8 vid, really captures the essence and spirit of Northern Soul. Loved the exciting way vid was cut together to emphasize the excellent dancing especially the footwork, the fabulous music, the style and fashions. Takes me back. Great posting. Keep the faith.

  • Fantastic, I think i saw me! in this clip KTF

  • There were other clubs well b4 wigan, but who cares Dance is the drug and still is KTF..... Dexies for me Lol Great Post Top Man......

  • good to see the lads , shuffle, dont know about blondie ,bit much shes outa step,

  • 3 Before 8 on pro boards

  • whats the first song on this vid ?

  • SOUTHWIND SYMPHONY - COMING HOME - on GLOLITE Records - its an instrumental version of LOU PRIDE'S - I'M COMUN HOME IN THE MORNUN

  • Who wants or needs tributes!!! Its as bad as Wegans Ovation and Footsie on top of the pops that helped kill the casino first time round. Or can you only remember the good bits of Wigan! I remember the shitty bits too.

  • the worst part of Wigan was the poor unfortunate Addicts whose lives were permanently wrecked due to substance excess, many OD'ed, we all know a mate that never made it through the other side!, OD'ing, a weekly event on the scene, I remember many walking round with their "Home Office" certificate in their hand asking for Chewies, Bombers etc.that was the saddest part of the Casino Scene, but you can't take away the highs....the music, the mates, the dancing, the sweat..F**KING BRILLIANT!!

  • couldn't agree more with you... sadly we all new someone that O'D somewhere along the way..

    thx for posting... ktf

  • have to agree with you there mate.....and a good mate of mine was dancing on ToTp.........I never got into the casino without me and the boys being stopped and searched at least once between the car park and the main doors.....there was a fire exit on the right of the doors that was fave of the cops!!! Who gives a fuck, we were all trashed........some got it right some didn't.....same now, same then, same with the Jazz boys in the '30's.

  • agree ! agree ! agree ! thumb a ride with me ! how bright that light did shine in a darkened hall for all to find ~ when badley spoilt shite comes to mind ! the footsie trip a tangled mine ! once the fuse had been lit we couldn't stop the end of it ! BOOM ! Deternination of elevation from that station exploded £'s media goaded ! thankyou ImUnionjack 4 Honest to Goodness when a Heaven Breaks .

  • thanku gaz ktf

  • They could never reproduce the wigan casino atmosphhere, the sweat condensation would be dripping off the ceiling back in the seventies.

  • when top doar opened it was a 1,000 degrees ! Robbie Lawsons Burning Sensation made yeh drop to yeh knees !!

  • There were other people on the dance floor????

I was so lost I never noticed......if anyone had had hair like the blondes it would have been stuck to their head with sweat.......good music choice and I'm not sure of the vid.....my Polyveldts and Spencers are trying to get out of the box in the roof!

KTF everyone....I've decided I'm not criticising ANYONE who's keepin the best scene EVER from continuing.........Keep On Keepin' On..........

ps. Green and Clear is the one for me.....

  • Right On Jack !!! OO

    Riker *

    Gaz !

  • oh its richard.... your fucking there mate!! only good thing about this is him haha sorry to whom ever took the time..

  • Brill vid and great music, cheers ktf

  • gywnedd - what makes you think this is supposed to look like Wigan? Nothing will ever capture what the old clubs were like (I was a regular at the Catacoombs/Torch and others). It will be interesting to see what the film Souled out will be like. I like the music on this video and the dancing is good as well. p.s. I like Duffy too.

  • Hated this. A poor dramatisation of what it used to be like. That blonde bimbo superimposed (right?), doing all she can for the camera. You didnt grin and pose when you were dancing, you were SO serious - and you cared not a cornish pasty whether anybody was watching you or not. Eeeeuugh. And you can keep Duffy, what a pretender. This stuff cant be recaptured ever. Winehouse is no better.

  • I totally disagree.

  • Hello, for your information this "blonde bimbo" is Moloko in a clip that she did as a tribute to the northern soul and the wigan casino.

  • Your man here is right,it's a tribute, and one of the best I've seen.

    Keep the faith people.

  • moloko video with the actor who's name i cant recall, is this just a video for the band moloko, or his it a film thats bin made anyone enlighten me..

  • That actor/director is Paddy Considine. He is also in Coldplay god put a smile upon your face, artic monkeys leave b4 light come on.Films include dead mans shoes and in america, to name a few. He said he's not acting anymore just directing shame he's fab luv jackie

  • That's the film I always stumble across at bedtime then watch all the watch through (Dead Man's Shoes)

  • Once Worn ! Bobby Bland johney shoes keep om walking back to me ! can't you see were one of a kind !

  • awesome ! I'm gonna look for the 4 records immediatly...

  • heres the list:

1 Southwind Symphony - Coming Home

2 Theme From The Coloured Man - Teddy Vann Orchestra

3 Elijah Rockin With Soul - Hank Jacobs

4 These Boots Are Made For Walking - Happy Cats

    Good Luck!

  • Thank you. For the moment, i got the 2nd and 3rd ones ;-). Real good music, if you have other name of stompers like this, please tell me.

  • Sorry, forgot to add .... proper Wigan Stompers ....

    Ton of Dynamite

    Keep on Keeping On

    The Champion

and a proper dancer .. Reaching the best

  • If they never experienced the Casino in it's full flight, forget it !!

  • respect for the creativity...similar 2 my willie mitchell northern soul dancing.

well done on your expression, ktf

as for keeping the scene alive.lol it will nvr die,not in a million years.

but respct to ros and duffy...and editor of this

  • Yeah, but dont you think that stuff like Duffy just keeps the scene alive and creates and breathes new life into it for yet another generation? Ive seen kids of 18 asking for northern soul at my local market, which i thought was great!! I got into the scene myself in the 70's because of "rips" and cheap knockoffs so they have an object value of their own perhaps?

  • Its just a modern day rip on A great scene and looks to me like someone else trying to cash in, obviously another 'Wannabe' popstar like Duffy.
