Well, bob. You have finally done it. You have picked a subject with the UAW that I finally agree with you on. At Ford when we gave up our pention to the UAW. Trust me it wasn't by my choice. In the deal (called VEBA) Ford funded it with 12 million dollars in the form of Ford stock. At that time our stock was selling for a little more than one dollar. Now I belive it is worth close to 5 dollars.
To my knowledge the UAW has not sold off any of the stock. This is why I voted "no" on our concession package. Not that it did any good. Now the UAW owns something like 60 million dollars worth of Ford stock. They now have a major finacial intrest in the company. They now have a finacial obligation to do what the company wants and not the dues paying members of our once great organization.
They have already began changing what america drives. But, that is more the company than the union. If they want to stay in business they will have to offer more small cars. Thats just the way it is with the gas prices being all over the place. I have 20 more years till retirement. But, I think they should sell it now. I feel it is a massive conflict of intrest to be such a large share holder. But, i've learned that the high ups in the IUAW don't seem to give a s**t.
The Labour Charter of 1927, by the Grand Council of Fascism, in article 7: "The corporative State considers private initiative, in the field of production, as the most efficient and useful instrument of the Nation", and in article 9: "State intervention in economic production may take place only where private initiative is lacking or is insufficient, or when are at stakes the political interest of the State. This intervention may take the form of control, encouragement or direct management."

I wonder hoardpm, how long before the UAW needs to sell the stocks to pay for your retirement.
And I also wonder if the UAW will follow the wishes of the democrats to change what Americans drive.
