  • Only a true idiot doesn't know that Rotaries don't need specialist care if you rev out the CO2 build up every month and give it more oil than a normal car. Learn your power train, never visit your mechanic until you do something truly stupid. Like idk... taking a sports car less than 20cm off the ground off road and hoping it doesn't get stuck in mud.

  • @DylanAB yeah lol :D

  • Mazda where the fuck is the Navigation

  • @scruffynerfherder90 thats for pussies

  • Im going To Buy This Car And Put Veilslide Body Kit! Just Like Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift!

  • What would it cost an 18 year old to be insured on this as a second driver?

  • Other than the mileage and the specialist needs for getting the rotary worked on when it needs it, I still want one of these some day.

  • Do they still make them I want to buy a 2011 new

  • @vxXsM0kEXxv yeah they do

  • @leafrunner123

No, production on the RX-8 has officially ceased. However, you can still buy them used with low miles.

  • @MrRectalRanger go on cars.com there's 58 brand new ones for the whole state

  • @leafrunner123

That's great and all, but Mazda isn't currently PRODUCING them. The "new" ones are the last new ones there will ever be.

  • @MrRectalRanger oh those are the ones that have no miles, they're not actually making them, I see.

  • read read read read i just watched the top gear special on this car it gets better mpg and more power than my v6 mustang im geting one asap

  • @123rustypipes The 2012 v6 mustang has about 80 more hp while getting 10 more mpg's while the new 5.0 has 200 more hp while STILL getting 4 more mpg's. V6 mustang starts at 21 grand and the 5.0 at 29 grand (bought mine for 27k). The rx8 at 27 grand is just not a good buy anymore.

  • Serious question. If the rotary engine has soo many benefits then why dont more cars have them?

  • @broncosfan1580 It's not economical and it struggles to meet continually rising emission standards. Plus people are stubborn and will always want their muscle car V8s

  • i love the rx8 ;-)

  • When you actually drive this, you wouldn't care about the MPG because you will be having too much fun. Trust me I own one

  • This reviewer is a preppy little bitch. He looks so out of his element in any cool car.

  • @Strata1R

He also obviously doesn't know how to drive, as he ran the RX-8 off the road.

  • can someone tell me what is the top speed on these things

  • 1.3L at 3,000 lbs and its getting 16/22? Is that a joke? A 5.0 F150 gets 15/21 and weighs 5,500 lbs making 360 hp.

  • @MrBlueChevy93 It's a rotary engine. You can't think of it in terms of piston engines. They don't compare.

  • i love it how this Ross guy is into +8k RPM! totally similar mindset. I know that he is a honda guy too... but too bad the s2k is not around anymore and the 2012 si is shit...Is honda cutting out its fun to drive factor? fml

  • 6.5 seconds is like honda civic si ( sedan for example)

doesn't it really good option ??)

  • @alexlugovoy but this car handles much better then the civic..

  • @metaljar02 have no idea could be

but not sure that it would be faster

or if it would not by much

  • the rx8 is for pussies

  • Mazda needs to bring up the mpg of rx-8 cuz this aint exotic sports car either. u will have to be pretty rich to pay off all that gas daily, and if i'm rich like that to throw down that much of money for pumping mazda, I'd rather get something else cuz I can afford so.

  • 52:48 weight distrubution? Are you serious? It's a 50:50 weight distrubution with the DRIVER in the car where it actually matters... Been that way since the S1 back in 03-04.

  • This guy is such a Honda fanboy.

  • @roadflytv Haha after this video was shot Mazda discontinued this car.. Will be the last year for this car.. bye bye.. was great knowing you..

  • 2:54 vtech is always kicked in yo!

  • Correct me if im worng but doesn't the rx8 pull 240hp rather then 232hp? just saying

  • @italiankilla58 It depends on a lot of things, USA version (6-speed stick) was originally 250 hp then dropped to 238hp, then again dropped to 232hp right when it came out. 04-05 autos only had 190hp, +06 autos had 212hp. +09 has a updated rotary engine (still 232 and 212hp) and slightly different gearing.

  • @stichy420 Yeah that is true. I know the 2011 modles pull 232 HP with the manual transmission and HP drops to 212 with the automatic. but still 232 HP and a rotary engine i say mazda is defentaily steping up their game when it comes to sports cars :D zoom zoom today tomarrow forever mazda :). But i wish the HP was 240 oh well.

  • how the fuck does that only manage 16mpg in the city..somebody please explain that to me..my monte carlo z34 with the 3.8L gets better mpg than that

  • @flashbak2theyayo its because its a wankel rotary engine, it guzzles gas..

  • fuel economy is for pussies

  • @snaponrx8 then yu gonna die in cold blood nigga the earths gnna get back at you

  • Anyone else notice that the host looks exactly like david archuleta but older?

  • R.I.P. Boxer engine was discontinued as well as the rx-8

  • Too bad they discontinued this beauty. If I needed my own car, I would really consider the base package of this car. Mazda say they're working on the Renesis (2) engine that should be more fuel efficient and use less oil (another of the few disadvantages of a rotary engine). It's a technology that can only improve, and I see miles of potential here.

  • rx8 can even drive in winter ? pls help if anyone knows ..

  • @davinpenh It can and does. Been driving mine in harsh Canadian winters for 2 years.

  • @littleRayRay306 really?:S but some ppl say that the rx8 has the problem with the engine when the weather get real cold and p.s i live in canada(toronto) where do u live ifu dont mind i ask? and what model do you have?

  • @davinpenh Mine starts every day without being plugged in and runs perfect. I live in Saskatoon and the car gets great traction and handling in the snow and ice due to the 50/50 weight distribution (winter tires a must). Deep snow may be a problem for it, but I still haven't got stuck yet. My car's an 05 gt standard.

  • @littleRayRay306 nice nice and how long hav eu been having it for ? ur drivng in manual right?

  • Can someone tell me why Mazda uses a rotary engine for the rx8? The performance numbers are just as same as a typical 4 stroke piston engine. Also, the rotary engine has higher emission rates than your everyday piston engine.

  • lol apex seals

  • HOW WILL I FIND A MECH FIXIND THIS ROT ENGINE AND I DONT WANT MAZDA RIPING ME OFF WEN FIXING THIS ROT IT NOT GOOD HAVING ONLY 1 MECH THEY SCREW U OVER

  • Comment removed

  • it's cool how these cars are a lot cheaper now. They've gone down to a base price of 25K

  • i can buy this car only at usa right?:S

  • @Beheruth doesn't exist anymore. It was discontinued

  • its not worth it...id buy a 370z or a g37s or a mustang 5.0 all cars that get better mpg or around the same and u dont have to check the oil every day on those cars...sure the rotary is nice but cud u live with it? i cudnt but thats just me oh and good luck findin a shop besides mazda that can work on it...

  • a little tear came out seeing the mud on the mazda :'(

  • Wow NIssan GTR gets better milage than this I have respect for this car but I think I like the Honda S2000 better and my brother owns an S2K with a bunch of mods.

  • @Xstreetxburnerx nope I own one all rx models came with rotary engines

  • what is the 4th pedal next to the gas on the right for?

  • why hasn't this car changed any

  • @cassidy0998 'cause is good enough this way

  • would this make a good first car

    but automatic

  • @AUDIR8ofNY96

no it would make an amazing first car! but don't get automatic because they are slow as hell! The auto rx8 is limited to 6000rpm and does 0-60 in ... wait for it = 10.9 secs! So definitely get a different car if you need an automatic but if you buy the manual version you can expect to enjoy a great car.

  • @CodestarGears Im getting the Sport as my first car !!!

  • Ok can anyone tell me If a 2004 Mazda rx8 have a 6 cylinder because some one keep telling they have a 6 cylinder.

  • I love my babe! I have a 2011 in Silver, damn my bitch can go...

  • ...I love my Rx8. lol

  • damn!!u look just likE the chinese singer JUSTIN!!!

  • Lol How Short Is the Guy lol he looks so small next to the car

  • nice shoes

  • lol high revs. Everyone knows it's better to drive a powerful car lightly then to molest a 4 cyl and not go anywhere. drive your little POS civic to 10,000 rpms, it's not going to matter, it still produces a piss poor 120lb/tq lmfao

"overwhelmed" lol where did they find this pedophile, working the electronics dept. at walmart? even his facts are wrong.

I don't know why anyone watches roadfly or how i got suckered into clicking on this link. thumbs down.

  • Always fascinated by the negative comments this car gets, usually from people who've never owned one let alone driven one. I've owned one 2 years and despite the quirks, or even sometimes because of them, love it.

  • 3:39 did you go off the road bro, those tires are pretty muddy for a dry day.....

  • @blitzkrieg050 Didn't watch the end of the video I take it?

  • That's not Mazda. That's American Wall Street Company.

  • this car is way too underpowered for what it is.

This whole rotary engine technology was once hot tech, but now it is dated, and obsolete...Mazda needs to step up to the plate and build a true sports car like Nissan

  • @tom11zz884 They are. They're developing a new rotary engine for their future sports cars. Google for 16X rotary engine.

IMO, if Mazda abandons the rotary, they'll just be another car company. What has always set them apart is the rotary, and their focus on driving dynamics above all else. I for one, am glad that they're pushing on with rotary technology. The one in the RX-8 is essentially the same engine they used way back in the 70s. The new 16X will be an entirely new motor.

  • hmmm,my altima coupe v6 gets better mileage, cost less, cheaper insurance, seats 5,looks way better and eats these things alive in a race.I wish they released a optional 3 rotor motor for the rx8,then I would mabey get one and put a 8 psi turbo kit on it.

  • This car looks stunning..the one in the video isn't great but black looks great, better than any other car in the same price range.

  • I love the Rx7, but lol the MPG and the Volume still makes me laugh today with the RX8, cuz its 1.3L and it gets 16/22mpg lol , but rotary is still very great...

  • Id like to knw wht kind of cars all the Roadfly host drives... including that robot girl. Lol. but yeah, nice vid. LOVE the feed back you guys give!

  • @jwatwater Ross started a thread the other day on the RoadflyTV-com forums. I'll get everyone to post follow ups.

    -Charlie@RoadflyTV

  • @roadflytv yeah? see this? this is what makes this one of the best channels on youtube. you guys really take the time to interact with the viewers. and thanks, ill b sure to check out the site

  • Too bad that you have to replace the engine like every 60 000km

  • Has this car even been re-facelifted since 2004? This looks almost like the same 2004 RX-8 from 7 years ago.

  • @thesuperdingos the headlights and tail lights. thats it.

  • This car used to look good when it first came now, now it just needs a facelift.

  • how exactly do you measure engine displacement with a rotary engine?

  • @juukame

thats wht Im wondering is it like... the quuvalent to a v6 or what?

  • would rather have an evo

  • Glad to have Ross back doing reviews! Good job buddy

  • How much more in costs per year in order to maintain this car? I'm not overly car savvy, but I just love this car!!!

  • Haha i love it at the end where it gets stuck, i got my slammed Honda stuck in my neighbors driveway once just bottomed out on the center cross member, i knew i should have strattled the lines lol

  • The RX-7 was better since it could hold its own against cars like porsches. The RX-8...not so much.

  • ross is such a bro with his moccasins

  • Gas mileage = Epic Fail! lol This car should get at least 32 mpg, instead of 22.

  • Nice review as always Ross. Very "pro".

  • They need a new model quick, this car has been out so many years already. The torque on this thing is so weak for a sports car. The 370z annihilates this car.

  • funny, you never see a reviewer call an extended cab truck a four door, perhaps because it isn't

  • I think they really need a complete redesign for the RX because it looks very out dated now.

  • great review...but not a fan of the rx-8

  • Constant preventive maintenance and horrible gas mileage kills it for me. I'll stick with my iVTECH.

  • great video what happen to jessi????

  • Is that a huge dent in the driver's door?!

  • this guy, the best car reviewer. period.

  • About MPG , can an LPG instalation be put on this car ?

  • Good job Ross! Where's Jess by the way? It's been a long time since her last video.

  • @RED1Carbon Jessi's primary focus these days is finishing her Ph.D.

  • @roadflytv In what, cars?

  • @roadflytv nice review! love the RX-8 but wish economy was better. What's her Ph.D. in? I knew she was smart based on her reviews.

  • @roadflytv cool.. what is she doctoring in?

  • This thing would be perfect with the engine out of a Honda s2000. Points for staying out of the box with the rotary though.

  • "Only a true sports car can get stuck in an inch of mud"

    haha so true

  • if mazda would get 400 horsepower out of that rotary it would be the best engine out their. its a shame they one give 230.

  • @jonathanstensberg But it would get worse MPG than a big block V8 and not sound anywhere near as sexy.

  • @MrUpgraydde if it had 400 horsepower the fuel economy would be about normal and the sound can always be fiddled with.

  • The rotary is an excellent concept, but executed very poorly. The RX-8 would be a phenomenal car if they replaced the lack luster engine with a new lightweight, turbocharged 4 cylinder. Although it wouldn't be an RX anymore, Mazda would have a truly competitive sports car. Perhaps with a little more development, and a turbocharger, the rotary could be the next big thing.

  • I knew it was a civic si when you said your current car revs high. LOL

  • @TypeR1013

Ross I love your reviews! Very informative and helpful. You gotta do more bloopers though. I keep waiting for those at the end. Lol Your awesome!!

  • Guys--I do drive an '09 Civic Si sedan. Almost identical to the one in my 2007 review of the car which is what actually inspired me to buy it. Before that, I had an Integra Type-R (hence my username) and a few motorcycles. I'm a sucker for high revs.

I'll see if I can dig some pics out, and I'll post them on the RoadflyTV forum.

    -Ross

  • @TypeR1013 Ross, I really admire your taste! SI's and Type-R's are some of the most exciting motors out there.

  • @TypeR1013 sweet i'm rocking an 09 Civic Si Sedan as well

  • Mustang > Rx-8

  • Ross did really want to talk about what he drives didn't he! Fanboy! ;-) He's gonna post pics of his ride on the RoadflyTV forum and answer questions over there so he doesn't clutter up the RX-8 comments.

    -Charlie@Roadfly

  • HAHA I was wondering why the car was covered in mud earlier in the video! Better hit the car wash!

  • I just posted about 20 pics of the RX-8 along with the window sticker at RoadflyTV . com. Look for the RX-8 thread. Eventually we're going to add pics, window stickers, etc. for all the cars we've reviewed.

Feel free to comment in the forums also.

    Best,

    -Charlie

  • so... how did did the mod hapend? was just an accident, or you guys just for the heck of it?

  • @sergh8605 Ross and Andrew had to make some camera gear changes so they pulled off the road. Unfortunately it had been raining for days so the ground was a lot softer than it appeared. I pulled him out with our trusty Toyota Tundra work truck. The truck wheels were 100% spinning in 4-low trying to get him out. The truck sunk to the rims. I wish we had it all on film. It would have made a great video. :-)

    -Charlie@Roadfly

  • Not just fuel economy. They use oil like crazy too.

  • the RX-8 is looking a little doughy.

  • how'd it get in the mudd??? lol I love the way ROSS does REVIEWS CARS and TRUCKS. You keep me intuned with out hype and I like that a lot. And you are very good at what you do. Of all the Car journelist I watch here on YOUTUBE, Ross is number 1! Thanks Ross.

  • These videos are worth millions of views!

  • gd stuff!

  • very interesting rotary engine. Only from Mazda

  • Ross what do you drive?

  • The 2011 RX8 looks the same as the old RX8, WHY?

The RX7 is a beautiful looking car

  • Wassup Ross. Not a fan of the RX-8. I think it is the only bad product that Mazda produces. When I say that, I mean value for money. This thing constantly requires maintenance , is a gas guzzler and doesn't offer that much in the way of excitement. I can only see one reason to buy this car and that is just because it's different.

  • I loved my RX-7.... zero problems. I have looked at and driven this car... it IS very nice. Ended up getting the MX-5 Miata.... Mazda makes GREAT sports cars.

  • ross looks like a midget even next to the rx8 LOL

  • I can't believe they still make this car. My buddy had one a few years ago and they had to buy it back from him under lemon laws because it had so many problems. My father had one back in the late 80's and it was ok I guess.

  • cars way too long in the tooth, its time to either remodel this thing or dump it. Its like the old S2000, 10 years and hardly any change, Honda let us down by never redesigning it. There are so many better cars out there that look better and are more fun for the money. Go buy a 370z or if your a muscle guy, a Camaro SS. Oh well still a great review there Ross.

  • I would say Ross has a newer civic Si like I do! Ross you are awesome car reviewer and cute!

  • I bet he owns a Honda S2000 v-tech.

  • I've always liked the RX8 (love the suicide rear door-sulotion), but I have to admit that the design is getting a little old fashioned, IMO they should have made a more modern/bold update instead of just fiddeling with some details.... Great job a always Ross

  • WOW my bmw has a 3.2 Liter engine yet it puts out 2 horse power less than this beast. SHIT...this car is ridiculous, it looks better too.

  • @1johpo than the last few models of RX-8's i mean

  • So... Emme "The Curve Rocka" reviews the Subaru station wagon. Ross, "Player to be named later" drives the Jags, 5/7 Series and anything hot. You guys need to check with marketing and turn things around. The RX8 needs to be a hybrid to lift the MPG out of the full size SUV range.

  • car got uglier. horrible mpg. shitty engine(for automatics). expensive.

  • wow... they really ruined the cosmetics when they refreshed the design... as if the lackluster power and crappy gas mileage weren't bad enough

  • c'mon Ross, answer your audience. This is the internet. You should interact with your audience.

  • ROSS!!! YOU'RE AWESOME MAN!

  • This car is so niche. I would probably get a mustang over this. It might not handle as well but it would be a much better DD.

  • 16-22 mpg.. With gas prices rising in certain states.. no thanks!

  • I just can't get past the styling. The RX7 was so sexy and then came along the RX8 and well all I can say is I don't know what went wrong at Mazda's design studio during the time they were working on the RX8.

  • @sid203 If you really have a M5 you should be able to get a girl w/ no problem instead of worrying about Jessi Lang...

  • @datboiwes333 he forget an x, its mx5 not m5

  • Ross must own a Civic Si, because he use to own an Integra, both spin to 8000rpm easy

  • HE DRIVES AN ACURA INTERGRA!! Check the roadfly vid for honda civic si, he mentions it.

    honda Fanboy :(

  • @craijona he use to own an integra, must own a civic si now, since he says, my current car spins to 8k and car before that, 1.17-1.22, not a honda fan, but i really like their vtec engines, dislike the fools who put massive spoilers on fwd cars though

  • it needs a turbo bad, what was mazda thinking, rotary engines need a turbo

  • Heavy on gas and oil, earlier models can flood easily, expensive to maintain and ours hasn't been reliable at all.

  • @lffit yeah I heard about that if you turn on the engine you can't turn it off immediately because the engine might flood. Ross mentioned that you have to do a lot of preventative maintenance, does that mean you have to keep adding oil or something?

  • @datboiwes333 yes the earlier ones will flood, when only moved a short distance when cold, maybe something to do with the choke?

I bought it for my son a 2005 hi performance model; we had to change the catalytic convertor at 100000 kms; 60000 miles? it cost 1900 euros at Mazda.

Plugs are expensive too here about 60 euros each, had loads of other problems too; imo its a car that you need to take often for service and strictly follow the recommendations.

  • i was wondering why the wheel is so dirty during the video

  • Ross drives a Hello Kitty car :)

  • Nice car time for a redesign.

  • i knew the rx-7 had shitty gas mileage but how the fuck does a 1300 cc engine get 16mpg?

  • @tres311 Rotary...? If you do some research on rotary engines, you'll know why they're so loved and hated. They rev up to insane amounts of numbers. And don't have as much as moving parts as pistons. But they also consume lots of engine oil and gas b/c of it's inefficiency.
