I love David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, but I have to admit that I enjoy the movie version of Death on the Nile with Peter Ustinov, David Niven, Bette Davis, Dame Maggie Smith and Angela Lansbury just a bit more. I have all of the episodes of Hercule Poirot with David Suchet, and I never tire of watching them. Outstanding!!! What obsessive-compulsive fetishes he has (LOL)
yeah Emily Blunt, nice :) funny thing that she's using here an american accent and for real she is british, right? I like her a bit more with dark hair though ;)
Go to 6:45 and check out the lady's cigarette holder. Do you suppose her doctor told her to stay away from tobacco? How does she fit that in her purse? Maybe it comes apart in pieces, or she has a special porter just for that. John Dillinger couldn't hide it down his trouser leg!
I'm surprised to find so many fans of Poirot, and really true fans at that. Back in the late 80s and 90s most people I knew refused to watch Poirot. Many actually raised an eyebrow as though to question one's lifestyle preference.
They were mostly beer drinkers and blowhards who simply couldn't countenance watching such a 'girly man'. Not that there's anything wrong with beer! It's the mindless chest-thumping that I was getting at.
This is the first Agatha Christie book I read and it was out of boredom and curiosity as to why she was great. The next thing I knew, I was hooked. And I have been searching for this video!! I'm sooo in love with you!!
6:11: "After you've prepared my couchée you may attend to my egg nog." Eggnog, or egg nog, is a sweetened beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, beaten eggs and liquor. Brandy, rum, or whisky is sometimes added; often served with ground cinnamon or nutmeg.
A couchée (from French se coucher, to lie down) is an evening reception or assembly usually connected with royalty or nobility, but here probably just means, "Get my bedroom ready for the night".
@Hendrikdevuile re: your comment about the snobbish lady "After you've prepared my couchée..." Also, go to 6:45 and check out the lady's cigarette holder. Do you suppose her doctor told her to stay away from tobacco? How does she fit that in her purse? Maybe it comes apart in pieces, or she has a special porter just for that. @Tebigong101 Actually, New York is a great city. New Yorkers are some of the coolest, most interesting people out there. They are also very open and friendly. And they have great accents. The accent that Emily is doing here is not a New York accent. Its a New England accent. If you are going to be snide, at least try to be correct.
I much prefer Agatha Christie's book. I've seen the version of Death On The Nile with Peter Ustinov as Poirot and the Suchet version and though they are both okay I STILL prefer the book. Nothing can beat the book!
Why on earth is Emily Blunt is wearing that ghastly wig? I realize that Linnet Ridgeway was a blond in the novel, but was it really necessary for Blunt to wear that wig? After all, Lois Chiles didn't bother to go blond in the 1978 version.
In fact, most of the costumes and hairstyles in this production is ghastly.
@FaedeurOnarcius Yes, and the old lady who speaks at 06:02 is the actress who plays the Queen in the film EVER AFTER (with drew Barrymore). The mother of the boy at 06:32 plays in the series CRANFORD (with Judy Dench and Imelda Staunton). The actor who plays Simon plays Henry Tilney in NORTHANGER ABBEY...
Thank you so much. This was the first Poirot (Agatha Christie) book I ever read, and thereby my absolute favourite. Even though I know how the story ends, I still like the majority of the characters, especially Jacqueline, Cornelia, Rosalie, and of course Hercule Poirot. Thanks again!
I really like poirot, never thought i could...
