What do you mean, IF they released this instead of POS Success. This was released, in fact twice. First as a B side on 7" Magic Flute Mix of Sex Bomb Boogie (German release) and then later remixed as a single in it's own right , 7", 2 x 12"s, 12" picture disc and a CD single. Tony James is cool, I was nearly a roadies for the Sputs and he lives in the town over from me :D
None of them were in Freur. James was in Generation X with Idol before Sputnik. Afterwards he was with the Sisters of Mercy briefly and is now in Carbon/Silicon with Mick Jones from the Clash & BAD. Kananagh was in BAD II after SSS, also with Jones.
My fave song! The drummers, Chris Kavanagh and Ray Mayhew who were, in my opinion, the best looking, never get any damn credit! SSS are frigging shite without them!!! I love you Chris and Ray always!!!
yeah this is pretty much the only decent song on the 2nd album, but what a great song. Tony James never did have the Malcolm Mclaren touch he thought he had...
Tony James had a tougher job without a 'revolution' to assist, he still succeeded...Sputnik came outta nowhere..Hes a damn genius better than McClaren!!!
I think Tony got too carried away with it and let it get to his head, and thus alienated many people in the process. Musicians are generally not very good businesspeople, that's why they need non-musos to guide their career.
I had a 12" record where the cover was in anime, a boy and girl having sex and it was censored with a sticker... anyone remember that? Forgot if it was Dancerama or Love Missile or an album... I miss vinyl
It was Dancerama. The regular 12" has the boy kissing the girl, the remix 12" has the girl getting out of her clothes, but the boy looks kinda shy. They're not having sex, but if the girl doesn't freak the boy out completely, they might soon. Cute!
I have it from Sputnikboss TJ personally that the genitalia were censored on all copies - it's not actually a sticker, you can't peel it off!
after a friend of mine brought over SSS cassette i was hooked right away i went from mostly Scorpions;Zeppelin, the doors to mostly New Order, joy Division,Ministry,front242 and so on..So SSS had a big influence on me...
einfach nur genial. Am besten hat mir der Part mit der Jacke gefallen. Hätt' sie gern ergattert... ;-) Darja Behnsch, Autorin von 'Diagnose: Schizophasie', 'Mariposa' und 'Obsession,
I really like the way you wrote the info, Foncete!
You started it in a common way, just telling something about the video, but THEN - the surprise out of the blue! And what would be more perfect timing for a surprise than unpredictably in the very end?
I don't know whether you tried to arouse that wonderful feeling of surprise in the reader, but it worked for me! Thanks for the video and especially the info, Foncete!
I have loved this song since I was 15 and the video is great. Sweet cyberpunk prom ballad. Ahead of their time. If sputnik made more songs like this they would probably still be around today.
There's an interesting article on Chris Marker's still photography over the last fifty years in the latest edition of UK film magazine Vertigo. Vertigo regularly features Marker and similar filmmakers. The Vertigo website has details and free articles.

I'm only 17 and I fucking love Sigue Sigue Sputnik. First heard them in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City about 5 years ago, and didn't manage to track any of their stuff down until myspace and youtube got big. I love loads of '80s bands but Sigue Sigue are the unsung heroes
hey man... im from 80's, and the only thing that make me introduce in the PS2 and others is the music's gta vice city, i heard a game with 80's music and i wanted it. Crazy thing, a few people know SSS, but GTA is too big... oooff!! in escenaries and music.
Love this Song!! Reminds me of growing up in the early 90's! People swear they've heard this song in a Brat Pack Movie all the time even though no such thing ever occurred.
RIGHTY RIGHT lets go..... This band made the 80's cool ......... Time to GO GO
