  • I'm not a business man so I can't tell, but for me as a passionate writer and (if I may say so) artist, the moleskine works just perfectly.

P.S.: I always write with a fountain pen and it's perfectly fine. I would recommend "Edelstein Ink" by Pelikan.

  • Posted tabes.

  • Yes, you could number the pages yourself, I found I had to do that, but you can send any artist your used book we would love to paint over everything in it. :).

  • Different strokes for different folks..Moleskines got Two thumbs up in my world..

  • leuchttrum numbered ink does not bleed

  • All I eventually got from that 4 minutes was 'it doesn't have page numbers' and 'things get lost'

    waste of time...

You talked about reviewing your notes all the time, scribble in page numbers; its empty so you can personalise how you take your notes!

*try an Oxford 'Black n Red' and probably the case-bound one, I think they have page numbers, and a few neat things on first n last pages, maps n conversion tables etc

  • I like this video.

  • writing a tiny number at the top of the page must be a real shun of a bitch! very time consuming!

  • Moleskines suck! They are horrible for fountain pen ink. Any decent inks bleed through and feather.

  • try leuchtturm 1917

  • You can always "edit" your notebook! ^^ add some post-its, page markers, number the pages yourself etc. There are thousands (really?) of ideas on the internet. And it takes only some minutes.

  • You know I bought some moleskine type notebooks from my local bookshop for $2. Same quality (actually better because the books are stiff and can't bend), better paper (smoother writing), of course acid free paper and a lot more pages. Moleskines are overpriced - like items in a financial bubble. Furthermore, they were using some toxins in the paper and were banned in the EU at some point (if I remember correctly). I don't understand why people keep buying them moleskines...

  • @kotapaka you mean banned in Europe? not really, I still can buy them over here =o

  • You seemed in the beginning a very together guy. So I was pleased to watch this video. Then you started to let to small things like page numbers and perforated pages take you out of your joy. I agree with some of the other commenters here. Use your considerable brain to solve the problem.

ie; number the pages, colored page makers and an X-acto knife. Be better than the things that you don't like.

  • post-it notes...

  • hummmm, post-its?

  • I number the pages of all my Moleskine notebooks myself. It takes like 2 minutes. And why would you want to rip pages out of a page numbered notebook?

  • Moleskine is for people who keep to themselves, a true moleskiner will never reveal his notebook because it is a medium between your brain and the outside world. Your mind is not organised, and neither should your moleskine. Besides there is a huge range of moleskines to chose from!

  • Ironing shirt... #FAIL

Just take it from the rope in the garden and put it on.

  • Haha motorcyle bag..

  • They do make them with perforated pages. And it would only take a second to write down a page number.

  • It takes about 10 minutes to get off your lazy a** and number the pages yourself, I'm just saying.

  • @cheetaz49

    +10

  • yeah ~ that's the most importnat thing - finding stuff (otherwise, why write it down..)

I use inverted tabs (cut tabs into pages ~ )

and number the page, have an index ~ sections etc.~~

    molenote.com/post/my-moleskine-gtd-implementation/

  • Just write the date every day you write in it, then just refer back to whatever the date is that you need.

  • check out the Leuchtturm 1917, sounds like what you are looking for the only down side is that the pages start to fall out after repeated use where the mole skin just stays together

  • sounds to me like the Levenger Circa is a notebook for you - save the page numbering requisite.

  • the last button to button

  • So many moles, so little time.

  • You wanna number your pages? Number them yourselves! Things get lost? That's when you use a stikc-it flag to mark your pages.

Get numbered notebook if you want but Moleskines are created for creative types, not pragmatic people.

  • Can you tell me if you ever find a notebook with page numbers? I like to number my pages if they aren't but it takes forever!

  • you are looking for numbered Notebooks? check out Leuchtturm 1917, its like the better moleskine (its also cheaper, here in germany, at least :) )

  • you know you can buy a business moleskine...with lined paper days of the week..maybe even page numbers - I swear you bought this on purpose so you could be negative about something in the review...

  • so if i buy a moleskine what pens should i get??

  • @sidthekid2009 Best pen I have found to write with is the Pilot G2 pens.

  • @sidthekid2009 you can see my moleskin by going through the links on my page, but I tend to use biro black pens...just the averaged ones but you can use ink....felt tip pens :) limitless....it depends what type of work your doing...is it for art or business?

  • @sidthekid2009 Are you serious!? Whichever you feel most comfortable writing with ofcourse... Unless you're one of those artiste/poseur people

  • Thank You, found your video very helpful.

  • Hm, your next video should be about how writing on canvas boards with dry erase markers doesn't seem to work too well during your board meetings.

It would be like an artist buying a dayplanner to sketch in and then complaining that there are all these weird lines, numbers, and months that get in the way of the overall sketch.

  • GET A LIFE!!!

  • your using the sketchbook moleskine. there is a dayplanner that has perferated pages. the numbering problem is solved by one of the changeable stamps were you can number the pages fast and have infinite uniform numbers. moleskines are great .

  • Yes . It is VERY HARD to write numbers. Idiot.

  • Use little flaggers, and then after a long time you just realize that note might not be that important anymore. Or number the pages yourself, maybe number every odd page, and then refer back to them.

    But fair review.

  • They aren't for business. Get a Day-Timer for your business needs.

  • People just make videos about anything.

  • you can number the pages yourself and get the model with perforated pages.

  • Thanks for your view.

Personally, I prefer to number pages myself (I also number them with 1-2-3 for one topic, a-b-c for another.

  • It isn't that hard to number pages yourself

  • @gemxclone I thought so too. Just write it on the botom when you just open the page ;)

  • Yes, I know, what you mean - thats the reason, why I prefer the 3in1 from X17 (see also the Youtube-film) "A good alternative for Moleskine Books: X17 3in1 ". There is a wonderfull addon-available: The data-register: it is like an adressbook, but not with ABC, it is with 1-12. here you can organize your projects, thoughts and ideas.

    Try it.

  • why not just number the pages yourself?

  • @Dix994 thats what I do! hahah

  • @Dix994 hehehe ~ that's what veteran Moleskine owners do ~ ~

like in my "Preparing a Moleskine book" vid ~ watch?v=bH9tJXm2Bcw

  • I recommend to you the Pulse smartpen. They have nice black notebooks. When you upload what you have written, you can search for any word throughout the entire notebook even without having converted your handwriting to text.

  • moll-es-keen-ah! Not mole-skeen!

  • I was puzzled at the comment where he's praising the paper. Moleskines are notorious for their poor -- and erratic -- paper quality. Fountain pens have particularly difficulty with it. Rhodia and Quo Vadis have both introduced notebooks of similar design but with much higher quality paper.

As for his complaints about the Moleskine design. . . I think he should look at the Levenger Circa system. It's much more oriented toward note-taking, as opposed to journaling.

  • All the Greats of the Past that allegedly wrote down their Magna Opera in it...

Honestly, its almost becoming a bit embarassing to be seen with one: openly showing that youre buying into this hype?

Anyway, a long shot to mention that another likewise notebook is Bloc Rhodia.

(PS: And far closer to the Chatwin and Van Gogh specification than that of the Moleskine: at least its made in France, where their Moleskinesque notebooks were created)

  • just number it yourself or use the daily planer.

use sticky tabs. CUSTOMISE and stop calling moleskines friggin fancy

  • there are moleskines with preforated pages, and some of them have tabs for sections--, you can also use sticky tabs

  • I think the review was fair. You clearly pointed out that Moleskine's aren't ideal for a BUSINESS SETTING, which is perfectly understandable, but Moleskines are more for artists, writers, and creative types. Not for business meetings or classroom note taking.

  • @albotasdotcom I am a businessman. I do find this review helpful for my daily life. I wish I had artistic talent...however I cannot draw a straight line even with the aid of a ruler. To make a long comment short... I'm curious what you would recommend in terms of a high quality paper notebook for business or practical everyday note taker. I am trying to learn more about writing as a recent convert to fountain pens for practical business use.

  • Every problem he had here with the Moleskine are with the entire "notebook" concept.

It'd be like saying "I don't like the Honda Civic because my needs require a mode of transportation that don't require gasoline."

Well... sure. You raise valid points... but they don't in any way address the qualities, or shortcomings of the Moleskine product. If you haven't figured out yet how to find the information you've posted in your Moleskine, that isn't a problem with the product.

  • In regards to your moleskine note book. Number your pages as you go, 1,2,3, if thats all you need is a number. Anyway, I just ran across your Moleskine vid. I do hope things are working out better for you these days . :)

  • first thing i do w. a new moleskine is designate first few pages for T.O.C. and number all the pages. the back few pages for contacts & info. it takes about 5 minutes. but i would love to have your unused moleskines ; D

  • I think the reasons for note liking the moleskine are irrelevant. The argument sounds something along the lines of "Why I don't like using my Rolls Royce for work on the farm."

Moleskine notebooks are quality notebooks. It seems the presenter is looking for a perforated journal book that costs $1 from any dollar shop.

Now, 'IF", you were forced to use a moleskine for the aforementioned purposes, one could number the pages by hand and create an index at the back of the notebook.

    Problem solved.

  • No. No. No.

  • What size is that moleskine? pocket or large? please reply are they good quality?

  • Pretty sure that's a large unruled notebook.

Ys they're very good quality you could find better but at a much larger price point.

Also to the author of this vid.

Why not title and date your note's?

I've been doing this since I was in school and never have a problem finding anything.

  • There's a German notebook that not only has numbered pages, it includes a table of contents. Um, lost the bookmark. RAts.

  • I need exactly 2 minutes to number all the pages :)
