in the today metagame its ovious that are not new techniques like wavedash or l-cancel but the new players improve a lot with the Application of the old techniques, you only need to see a match of pound 4 for example or watch m2k vs lucky in tp 5 and compare with the old ken vids. the difference is very big

@Saturi You've lost your mind If you think todays players are "small Fish". To put things into perspective, Mew2King alone in a crew battle took out Ken, Isai, Disk, and Manacloud. If they had another Crazy Return crew with Ken, Bombsoldier, Musashi, Wes, Killa-Or, DieSuperFly, Captain Jack and 3 others, Versus the current top 10 in the world they wouldn't even take out half of their stocks. In fact Mango, Armada, Hbox, M2K, & Amsah could beat the top 10 of 04-07 without anyone else.

@Saturi just to point out a few things: the smash scene is more alive now than ever. and the DI thing. ken had good DI but he didnt DI out of combos. for example ken combo doesnt work if you DI away from marth when he fairs. and look at armada and axe. a peach player is top 3 in the world and a pikachu took 5th place at apex. isnt that meta game involving stuff? dunno if axe exactly INVENTED anything new with pikachu but he made him look better than before.
@ImmortalVeteranPro Axe used aloooooot of Falco at apex. Armada is debatably in the top three. Although he is 3-0 against m2k in sets, m2k is a little more adaptable.
@1ruroken he beat cyrain, shiz (3 stocked 2 games), jman and made a 3 stock comeback against armada. armada is top 3 no doubt. the only reason "worse" players gets close to him is cuz of peach. i mean he beats foxs in fuckin ntsc with peach. armadaprobably has the best mentality also, if hes 1 against 4 stocks he plays better imo
M2K. It's not about ideas. People on youtube who don't go to tournaments at all just have no sense of time when it comes to competitive smash. It was pretty clear by 2007 that M2K was better.
Mango beat M2K. And I've seen a match where Ken 3 stocks Mango. No one's definitely the best I think. Results depend on seedings, and players do better or worse against other players.

Ken beat Mango in the middle of 2007, when Mango was still only like the 3rd to 5th best player. M2K was clearly the best in 2007. He didn't win all the time, but he won way more than he lost, and won way more than anyone else. He was ousted by Mango after losing to him twice, who hadn't lost a tournament for a year and a half until a few weeks ago.
Ken 3-stocked Mango prior to Mango's rise to power. Following Evo, Ken promptly placed poorly at SCC, where Mango got 3rd.
I don't think Ken was able to keep up with the speed and technical demand of the 2007 environment. In his 2006 prime, technical space animals were troublesome for him. Given that the game's technical emphasis has only increased with the bulk of the cast, I don't think he'd hold his weight at all today.
I think he could if he tried. That is, I don't think he would instantly start winning if he came back. But if he came back, played regularly over a period of time and worked on his game, I think he could be a major contender again.

Ken didn't do a lot with Marth technically. I mean he made the Ken combo...that was about it lol other than that Ken just played well and by the book.
M2k on the other hand invented many new things. Mainly the gimping side of Marth.
Ken's edge guarding sucked horribly...You can watch a few of his videos to figure that one out. But he would always pretty much 0-death everyone lol that or it would be a long drawn out match. M2k was more focused on how fast he can kill someone.
The thing about Ken is that he did like the basics of an advanced play with Marth, showing up his potentials and making it one of the best characters to use against-like-every type of enemy.
What Mew2King was to improve even more Ken's way of playing to a point in wich Marth becomes almost invincible in good hands(for me Mew2King and Ken are the best at this :/).

I just saw an All is Brawl combo video where this music was in it...who was the first person to use this in a video? Whoever that was gets the credit lolz. (this was probably one of the first ones if I look at the date)
I believe the frst smash combo video to use this song was Isai's combo video. When I made this vid I didn't know that the song had been used already. But as far as claiming music goes I really don't care. Look up some CoD and GoW montages and count how many of them have that "5 percent accuracy, 20 percent skill" song in it.
M2K is simply an upgraded Ken. Sure Ken dominated the opposition but he didn't have nearly the amount of competition that M2K or any modern smashers have. During Ken's best days he was untouchable but there were only 2 or 3 people world wide who where about as good as him. Now there are about 200+ People world wide who are about as good as Ken and some have even passed him. This isn't a bad thing it just shows how melee and the people who play it have evolved and continue to evolve.
M2K is a very good player but i too believe ken was the true king of smash because even every1 at MLG called him that and during interviews they would say "ken "king of smash" " wen his name came out to label him...long ive ken...the true king of smash

Once M2K took up using Marth, M2K took control of Smash, Ken dropped out of the running, and then shortly after Mango came out of no where to steal the title away. Poor M2K, always in second.

M2K is one of the people that advanced the metagame by showing how quick and fast Marth is. Ken had good mindgames, which is why everybody picked up Marth; M2K has the best technical style, which furthered that notion.

What I'm trying to say is, be your own rainbow. Every player plays differently, and often, some of the top players play with a certain style or mindset that becomes popular in the community because it works. M2K popularized Marth almost as much as Ken did. Ken showed everybody that Marth is a higher tier character, while M2K was doing crazy edgeguarding shit in 2007 that's fairly popular today.
Alot of the things M2K does he got from Ken... Ken invented Marth. M2K took it further but the base for all of his "crazy edgeguarding shit" came from Ken.
I think the part with the credits was the weirdest thing i have ever seen in my life. Anyway Ken has done more for SSBM than M2K has. Also if Ken kept playing he would be alot better than M2K for sure. He only lost to Mew2king because he stopped playing as much.

M2K still has a chance to evolve too, where as Ken's time has already passed.
I actually played with M2K at H.E.R.B. on saturday, and in singles finals it was sad. He just kind of lazily picked Marth or Sheik and the other player would play their heart out and M2K would just win easily.

@Saturi You've lost your mind If you think todays players are "small Fish". To put things into perspective, Mew2King alone in a crew battle took out Ken, Isai, Disk, and Manacloud. If they had another Crazy Return crew with Ken, Bombsoldier, Musashi, Wes, Killa-Or, DieSuperFly, Captain Jack and 3 others, Versus the current top 10 in the world they wouldn't even take out half of their stocks. In fact Mango, Armada, Hbox, M2K, & Amsah could beat the top 10 of 04-07 without anyone else.

I stopped following the melee the momeny i believed it died, when a almost every major player retired, including alot well known crews such as DBR. You based this on what now ? If the vetderians played everysingle day as if they were in their prime ? or just simply picking up the joysticks again after 4 years of rust ? Either way, that just an opinion. @Saturi DBR retired eh? Well that Proves that you don't know anything about the current melee scene. Considering SS, King, Germ, Zelgadis...etc slowly came out of retirement. Even Isai came back for a tournament not to long ago. You should look Melee 2008-2010(today). You've missed/Missing out on alot.

By Then You should know all you need about the current scene. I'll warn you though some of the crazy incredible shit you see will probably shock you.

I think Ken could be as good though if he came back because besides mango, kdj, and armada Ken was like the best person at adapting on the fly. I think he could adapt to the changing metagame. @Saturi just to point out a few things: the smash scene is more alive now than ever. and the DI thing. ken had good DI but he didnt DI out of combos. for example ken combo doesnt work if you DI away from marth when he fairs. and look at armada and axe. a peach player is top 3 in the world and a pikachu took 5th place at apex. isnt that meta game involving stuff? dunno if axe exactly INVENTED anything new with pikachu but he made him look better than before.

@1ruroken he beat cyrain, shiz (3 stocked 2 games), jman and made a 3 stock comeback against armada. armada is top 3 no doubt. the only reason "worse" players gets close to him is cuz of peach. i mean he beats foxs in fuckin ntsc with peach. armadaprobably has the best mentality also, if hes 1 against 4 stocks he plays better imo

M2K. It's not about ideas. People on youtube who don't go to tournaments at all just have no sense of time when it comes to competitive smash. It was pretty clear by 2007 that M2K was better.

Mango beat M2K. And I've seen a match where Ken 3 stocks Mango. No one's definitely the best I think. Results depend on seedings, and players do better or worse against other players.

Your post epitomizes exactly what I just said about people who don't go to tournaments having no sense of time when it comes to competitive Smash.
Ken beat Mango in the middle of 2007, when Mango was still only like the 3rd to 5th best player. M2K was clearly the best in 2007. He didn't win all the time, but he won way more than he lost, and won way more than anyone else. He was ousted by Mango after losing to him twice, who hadn't lost a tournament for a year and a half until a few weeks ago.

I disagree with your analysis.
Ken 3-stocked Mango prior to Mango's rise to power. Following Evo, Ken promptly placed poorly at SCC, where Mango got 3rd.
I don't think Ken was able to keep up with the speed and technical demand of the 2007 environment. In his 2006 prime, technical space animals were troublesome for him. Given that the game's technical emphasis has only increased with the bulk of the cast, I don't think he'd hold his weight at all today.
And Mango > M2K.

I think he could if he tried. That is, I don't think he would instantly start winning if he came back. But if he came back, played regularly over a period of time and worked on his game, I think he could be a major contender again.
He probably isn't that interested though.

Ken didn't do a lot with Marth technically. I mean he made the Ken combo...that was about it lol other than that Ken just played well and by the book.
M2k on the other hand invented many new things. Mainly the gimping side of Marth.
Ken's edge guarding sucked horribly...You can watch a few of his videos to figure that one out. But he would always pretty much 0-death everyone lol that or it would be a long drawn out match. M2k was more focused on how fast he can kill someone.

The thing about Ken is that he did like the basics of an advanced play with Marth, showing up his potentials and making it one of the best characters to use against-like-every type of enemy.
What Mew2King was to improve even more Ken's way of playing to a point in wich Marth becomes almost invincible in good hands(for me Mew2King and Ken are the best at this :/).
Mew2King evolved Marth, invented new things and..yeah...showed off the gimping side of it >=)

I believe the frst smash combo video to use this song was Isai's combo video. When I made this vid I didn't know that the song had been used already. But as far as claiming music goes I really don't care. Look up some CoD and GoW montages and count how many of them have that "5 percent accuracy, 20 percent skill" song in it.

M2K is simply an upgraded Ken. Sure Ken dominated the opposition but he didn't have nearly the amount of competition that M2K or any modern smashers have. During Ken's best days he was untouchable but there were only 2 or 3 people world wide who where about as good as him. Now there are about 200+ People world wide who are about as good as Ken and some have even passed him. This isn't a bad thing it just shows how melee and the people who play it have evolved and continue to evolve.

Since the game has evolved so much since then, playing a "ken" style marth just wouldnt be enough today. I know you must find it odd that Ken quit when M2k became crazy good. Ken brought Marth into the metagame, he popularized many of his combos and such but he didn't really "invent" Marth, he just had a really good style and showed everybody that Marth wasn't as bad as everybody thought. M2K, on the other hand, just rapes everybody with Marth.

Are you fucking retarded? Did you read what I said? I said Ken didn't INVENT Marth, I said he had a good style and popularized some of his moves. M2K is one of the people that advanced the metagame by showing how quick and fast Marth is. Ken had good mindgames, which is why everybody picked up Marth; M2K has the best technical style, which furthered that notion.

What I'm trying to say is, be your own rainbow. Every player plays differently, and often, some of the top players play with a certain style or mindset that becomes popular in the community because it works. M2K popularized Marth almost as much as Ken did. Ken showed everybody that Marth is a higher tier character, while M2K was doing crazy edgeguarding shit in 2007 that's fairly popular today.

I'd say M2K, comparing both of them at their primes.
M2K still has a chance to evolve too, where as Ken's time has already passed.
I actually played with M2K at H.E.R.B. on saturday, and in singles finals it was sad. He just kind of lazily picked Marth or Sheik and the other player would play their heart out and M2K would just win easily.
He's definitely better than Ken was.
