When i was young there was a 2400a sitting abandon in a stripcut about 400 yards from my house. my dad used to take me up there and i would sit in it and pretend like i was an operator. we were very respectful to the old beast but unfortunately others werent. her windows got bashed out and parts were stolen. someone complained and they came and cut her up for scrap. I still miss that old rig!
We've got a 2400-B we converted to clamshell for our dredge. We swing a 10cy Erie bucket day in and day out with the beast. The 49600 Manitowocs are more versatile for digging and hoisting but the Lima's with a live boom are brutes and made to last. Before we converted ours it had 140 ft of boom and swung a 8 cubic yard drag. Great MAchines
I remember growing up in PA, and the coal mining company was digging close to our house.....waking up in the middle of the night and listening to this machine operate...Awesome
I worked on these old Lima 2400's in the early '70s. They were powered by Caterpillar D330- D333 static V12 turbo diesels. 6.5" bore * 12" stroke. Sweet!

If I remember correctly a 2400 is 7 cubic yards.

Great video!! I often wondered how much dirt these machines can move in a given time period. This video helps explain that.
