LOL... this is completely untrue. The president is the highest paid government official @ $400,000. State Govenors' make anywhere between $70,000-$200,000. While the average income is less, many people in the USA make much more than the president. It is a simple formula... if you want more money to live by, you have to have more ambition. Go to college, look for a better job, etc... The point is, stop worrying about what other people make and concentrate on improving yourself.

That's very true in developed western countries such as my native UK, western Europe or the US/CAN. But in some parts of the world, there is no such thing as a career chain, if you earn just enough to survive, odds are, better jobs are closed to you automatically just because of how unprivileged you are to begin with. Agreed. But the key point is that, in most cases, in developed societies it IS possible to improve your own circumstance with hard work. However in the third world, you're buggered if you just happened to be born into the wrong village, and there is very little you can do about it unless some plucky person helps you.

Technically they're both public control of resources and the differences are minor.

Practically speaking, often in socialism the state controls some things (for example: the road system or health care) and in communism the state controls everything.

To look at it another way, a socialist country will tax you to pay for public services while a communist doesn't have to tax you because they already own everything.
