I have a 900 100w and dont understand why people say its hard to get a clean tone. It has a very bright (if you play with stock g12t75) tone if you compare it to a clean 800 or jubilee. I love it's clean channel and I cut back on the treble and presence to be less brighter and more 800 like. The distortion is another thing, I dont really like it, so I dont even use it.I have diff pedals for diff sounds (800, modded plexi, metal sounds). It has a good and very responsive and useable clean channel
just a generic chord progression i often play. i can think of a whole host of songs that follow this general pattern, but not really in this style. here are the chords I play: A, E, F#m, F#m, Dmaj7, E, A, A (repeat... and try playing the chords in different positions, as I did). most important/difficult is the rhythm syncopation between the two hands. enjoy!
Laney is more powerfull, has twice better drive. In my opinion it has the best tube distorion (on max lvl is noisy) Better dynamic, has resonance switch, tighter bass, crispier clean. It is generally cleaner even with max drive. Only one chanel with more drive on footswitch, bias switch, every effect loop... etc People say it is very trebly - simple WITH LANEY USE ONLY EMINENCE V12. I'll try to put some video :) Laney = better fun, more expression.
This is not the right amp for you if you're looking for a clean sound. I've got one of those they are single channel. As simple as that. Best you can do is to buy another amp and get a A/B switch pedal. So that you keep both amps on, one dirty and the other one clean. That's what I've done, a got a vox for the cleans and it sounds great.
@Daniorc i saw ur ntext on the marshall jcm900 mk3 master vol 50 wat amp. does this amp have the brutal distortion i heard about i know there are like 4 different jcm 900 amps. is this the amp that was the 1990's or modern version of a hot rodded jcm 800 from the 1980's
Well, depends on what you want it for. Yeah, vox has a great clean tone and a crunchy tone also. But it's not high gain. The 900 has a sound of it's own. Both clean and drive soudns really good. I mean, I had a 57 strat with my 900, lovely sound, like Little Wing. Had a Les Paul with Alnico II Pro..wow.. This amp rocks! BUT, if you're looking for the Slash/ Wylde kick ass rock sound, go for the 800. And guys, comparing amps with different pickups??Some have less treble then others..
but be honest, "clean" is something else.. i mean where are the high tones? it muffs so much like treble knob is down on zero!!! where is the clear tone like of a fender twin or just other marshall 900? you have kinda like to put a strat in it to have paul-tone.. any tube suggestions?
problem no.2: i have the same amp, and i am desperately searching for a stompbox that sounds like this amp cranked up, but having the amp clean.. know what i mean? its just about the choice between dist & clean..
You said it yourself, dude. If you want the sound of a strat into a fender, there's no way around it--you need a strat and a fender. This video was made to show that you can make this amp sound clean-ish, which is important because many owners complain about how this amp can't do any clean tones at all.
Happy medium: run the amp at a lower gain setting, use the volume knobs on your guitar to your advantage, and use a good overdrive pedal that doesn't sound too synthetic. Good luck! :)
try using tone bone hot british from radial.. with a bit of tweaking you can get that typical marshall sound with that box. for the clean you can try cranking up the presence, lowering the mids and put the bass to 12o clock, you tweak the treble as you like (depends if you have a strat or a paul). and jcm900 is not a good amp for clean anyway so it's all about working with what you have.. i own 2amps, one silver face for the clean and jcm800 for the drive tones. works perfect for me.. good luck.
I had a 2500 and kept the gain down, used a tubescreamer for rythms. Kicked off the TS5 and rolled the guitar volume knob back for cleans. Stupidly I traded it for a pistol, was sick of not getting real cleans and went on to RP multi effects. If only I'da known about the 4 cable method back then. Using an Ultra 120 now and love it though. Great clean channel, plus Crunch and Ultra.
I have a 2500, they are great for thrash metal. Without a pedal just crank the gain and preamp, with a pedal just turn the gain and preamp down and you can get great sounds from pedals. The only problem is it is single channel so if you are playing live you have to make adjustments for different tones
i don't think anyone uses these sort of marshalls for clean tones. I think most use marshalls for big rock tones and fenders or roland JC120s for cleans. It's hard to find an amp with both.
It's definitely not sought after for its clean. However, I just wanted to show what you could get out of it, since most people can't afford an amp for each sound.
vintage 30s in the cab. i think avatar gives the average marshall and mesa cabs a run for their money. there's no magic powder sprinkled over a cab to make it spectacular, so good construction is key. avatar is the best bang for buck i've seen.
Ihave this same amp and you cant get a completely clean tone. Its always got a little bit of dirt. Especially if it's got any volume to it at all. It's a rocker
is ur amp 6l6 or el34? im looking to get a jcm900 just for cleans i already have a jvm i use for everything else, its good for cleans but later on i want a total different setup for cleans how do u think a jcm900 would be? i use really low output pickups so i can get super clean cleans would the 900 fit the bill for super clean cleans?
the dual reverb would probably work for clean, but not the MKIII series (the one in this video). find an old master volume 800 or JMP and play through the low input. i now have a vintage JMP and that thing sings!
well yea i wasnt planning on getting the high gain cuz there would be no point seeing how i want to try and get a solid clean sound with a marshall. are the 800s that good with cleans? i like really dry cleans i dont like slightly distorted cleans btw. i like them super clean.
yes, the 800s and JMP master volumes (models 2204 and 2203) can do nice cleans. HOWEVER, the ultimate cleans have always been achieved through fenders and expensive boutique amps.
If you crank the gain sensitivity, do you get a loud humming when anything is plugged into the input jack? Cause thats what Im getting. Wondering if I should take it to the shop....
@asharpminor hey does this master vol mk 3 jcm 900 have brutal modern high gain distortion i know there arew like 4 diferent models of the 900 i heard this is the amp marshall built for the 1990's and future that act was a jcm 800 mooded out then they called it the marsall jcm 900 master vol .i heard the jcm900 dual reverb there was not that real mo0dern high gain sound i know thwere is a 900 that was modeled after a jcm 800 with all the major modifications get at me
can you get cleans on gigging volume?

i no longer have this amp. however, i remember that knob being the "loudest," meaning it introduced humming.
the gain sensitivity knob does most--if not all--of the diode clipping. i kept it at zero whenever possible.

i do recommend them if you're looking for pretty hot pickups. a set of classic '57 PUs are good for a little less output.
