  • Hey setroos,

    There seems to be a bit of confusion in the industry regarding cutting angles and I think a big reason for that is the difference between North American and European terminology. Europe, like you said, uses alpha and gamma opposite from NA. Even the words to describe the greek letters (i.e. "rake" vs. "cutting" vs. "knife") aren't uniform.

    I wish these terms would just be standardized... but unfortunately they are not.

  • Yeah, two ways to say the same thing. I think there is a bit of a debate on what is the proper name for all the angles. The content of this video is based off tooling textbooks so should be pretty accurate.

  • Always heard it called a Cutting Edge and not a Knife Edge, but good video.

  • @kylep2 Yeah there's always some discrepancy in what the official names of the angles should be. Oftentimes the europeans choose slightly different names. But either way, they're all synonyms.
