To continue with the separation of church and state, it gives us the right to put a church on one corner a synygogue on another corner a mosque on another corner and even a Buddist temple on another corner and pray peacefully. This is engrained in our history whether you like it or not. this is history. It is no accident that we have In God We Trust written on most of our American Currency.
You shouldn't forget that the founders ot this country (The United States) came to this country not for capitalism or free enterprise but for freedom of religion. One of the most important legislation that was ever passed that was the separation of church and state. We as a nation of many varied religions and races and beliefs of all kinds should be a little more tolerant of you fellow citizens and their religion. The prayer obviously is meant to be multidenominational. In God We Trust.
I'm all for religious freedom and can't stand the highly sensitive and easily offended secular special interest groups (don't worry religious extremists suck too), but aren't we a non-religious government? Meeting like this should begin with the pledge and/or the anthem.

As a tax payor I'm not paying for the Senate to pray, I'm paying for them to actually do something, I want my money back!
