Tourists can climb the summit on a pleasant day with a guide and relitivley no experience on the east face, that will take a good half a day + though. Ahhh memories.

A lot of people have died climbing it though. Even if it's safer to go up now I would think a lot of people who attempt it are susceptible to heart attacks. I would think you still better be in good shape before attempting something like that.

Climbed it, view from top is better than from bottom. One of the easier ones I've done as its been turned into a tourist attraction. Agreed I think its one of the most beautiful mountains on the planet and loads of character. Been made very easy to climb it now as there are stairs upto halfway up the total height from sea level. Quickest route is about 5 hours pending you know what your doing, its called the lion route.

This is GORGEOUS! On the time lapse, how long is it, 1/2 day or what? After my kids move away I'll be traveling worldwide, this is DEFINITELY something to see! God's creation is AMAZING! And to Alfredgroovermon, it's kinda scary that you didn't know there was a REAL Matterhorn. My friend, brush up on history or geography or SOMETHING! Also, if you do even just a LITTLE research on the Disney RIDE you'll get a little history on the REAL Matterhorn! Disney history is awesome too!

Thanks for that comment! It was the view from my hotelroom window. I spent 4 days there. I put all the images in a sequence organized by time of day. That is why the weather keeps changing during the animation. So: I had 4 very nice days!

Matterhorn (at least thrope.Be one referred to in above movie) is most definitely in Eueing a top 5 Alp peak at 4,478m or14,687ft if you like, it is on the border between Suiss and Italy. I've been there myself, but alas, the fog destroyed my hopes of getting even a glimpse of it. Luckily there are lots of beautiful mountains in my home country Norway, so it could've been worse.
