The Martini in the hand of this post WWII English Gentleman is in fact American. James Bond, the British MI6 operative in the stories of Ian Fleming, was very fund of Martinis made with Vodka instead of Gin. I suspect Vodka and dark coffee instead of Gin and Tea were Fleming´s ways of lending James with an exotic -to British readers at least- taste. James however had his suits made by a tailor in Saville Row and never wore "scent"
