yes it can damage your phone lcd. avoid using any phone case with magnetic lock button. over exposure to any magnetize device could lead to pixel problem, pixels in the lcd screen are very sensitive. it can no longer produce the right amount of colors or it may lead to dead or stuck pixel. exposed lcd screen have rainbows (when turned off) on its top layer under direct sunlight. try to check it if it does.
try to remove the keypad of your p990 and imitate that that the keypad is still in it and you will see what happen. magnet is not bad for p990's lcd. what you need to do is place the keypad exactly but just stick it in the normal position but dont insert the keypad to the phone. i know that im getting too hrad to understand but try it until you get it ok.
this proves that its keypad cover has magnet inside :D
