Yes, this is a tokay gecko. I used to have a leopard gecko, they are much different. Sand is okay for leo's only, you just have to make sure it doesn't contain silica, so natural sand isn't a good idea. I used calcium carbonate sand. Tokay's require a high humid climate, I use coconut fiber and soak it with water mixed with moss. Tokay gecko's can live anywhere from 10-21+ years in captivity. I'm actually using a 10 gallon for my male because he doesn't like to climb very much in the cage.

Eating a bit is okay but if he eats too much of it, it kind of turns into cement in their stomach and blocks their digestive track. I just use paper towels. Its so much easier to clean up, he can't eat it, and its cheap. Small crickets are good for baby leos so they can actively hunt, waxworms are good treats, and my adult Leo prefers mealworms (too lazy to chase around crickets).

It depends what lizard, but tokay geckos and many other geckos are not slimy at all. their stomach, chin, legs, arms, and under side of the tail are extremely soft while their backs have a rough texture of thorn like bumps. it's actually quite nice holding them in your hand.

@weda737 Both of my tokay geckos were wild caught, it shouldn't make a difference. In order to have them calm down around you, you must hold them for a few hours each day.

It seems like these people think I have a circus filled with geckos and this is my daily job as though I tip them upside down and make them do back flips everyday....not me making a video for youtube.........although, there is a point in which it's unsafe, but I haven't even remotely came close to that point.

If anything it shows that you care about your lizard enough to make a bond like that where it trusts you enough to do things like lay them on their backs or put your fingers on its nose without a mouth opening at you. I have to say, my most favourite part ( 0:42 - 0:48 ) is when you were using your fingers to hold up his back legs, and then let him walk. But, the best is that has was still moving his feet as if walking in mid-air!! Haha, I love that. Nice Tokay gecko.
It's amazing! my boyfriend just got a Tokay, the guy at store said it was 6 or 8 months old, is it possible to tame it still? He also has 2 japanese turtles, they're 3 years old and 4 inches long, do you think the can get along?
as far as the turtles go, I'd say keep them away from each other, but I don't know. any aged tokay gecko, with the right treatment can be tamed, you just have to spend time with it by handling it frequently.
@alexmortillaro okay but one thing that i realy have respekt from is that yours is a tokay...how did you get a tokay that tame? i havea flying gecko what also should be very agressive but i tamed it but a tokay is even more agressive so thats the actual special thing in the video in my opinion

thanks. basically all it takes is frequent handling. holding them in your hand for a while (10-15 mins ) at least a couple times a day should help the lizard calm down and get used to you. they're all different so there isn't one way to "tame" a tokay gecko, but I also have a male which acts exactly the same as the gecko in this video and can do everything this gecko can. all I did was hold them and they pretty much stopped being aggressive ( towards me ). hope that helps.
I just saved a Tokay. From some dumb ass. Had it in a cricket cage. Selling alot of cool animals but they were all in bad shape. Please make some updates on your Tokay. I would love to see them again. I will subb. I will also practice these techniques.
I just posted a video of my male tokay gecko climbing like a week ago. before anything, handle the tokay gecko and get it used to you before you try doing anything else with it. I spend lots of time with my geckos so they are very used to me. treat yours right and it will return the favor.

I just saved a Tokay. From some dumb ass. Had it in a cricket cage. Selling alot of cool animals but they were all in bad shape. Please make some updates on your Tokay. I would love to see them again. I will subb. I will also practice these techniques.

I just posted a video of my male tokay gecko climbing like a week ago. before anything, handle the tokay gecko and get it used to you before you try doing anything else with it. I spend lots of time with my geckos so they are very used to me. treat yours right and it will return the favor.
