  • Is the 3rd person who sued them Jimi Destri or Gary Valentino?

  • I think Shirley Almost wet her panties on....... She is a big fan of Blondie.... How will you feel if you are induct them to the rock and roll hall of fame! Maybe I get the chances to do the same thing with garbage! fingers cruss

  • I read that Nigel Harrison was initially asked to rejoin the group and even recorded some demos with the band for the album No Exit but was later dropped from the band before the record was finished. Does anyone know why he was asked to rejoin then later dropped?

  • @ihasch

    1. On a recent interview with a New Zealand radio station, he stated, that they have basically kicked him out and that a lawsuit is pending, so, money is the issue and nothing else

    2. He was a cocain addict, not heroin and is helping drug addicts

  • @StephanJK-Not villifying him. He is doing something valuable. But as you admit he had major problems. I know he wasn't happy about the band not touring with him, but it wasn't exactly arbitrary either. As to this lawsuit I keep hearing about, time will tell.

  • PS-It helps to actually know a band's history before you mouth off. Their interpersonal problems are not much different than the Ramones or the Talking Heads or the Clash. (Start in punk, end in litigation). Yet despite myriad band breakup stories, Blondie is the only one that seems to elicit dumb comments. Strange double standard. There was a LOT of tension all the way from the beginning. It's a miracle the band lasted as long as it did.

  • bag of bollux

  • J. Destri has now also been thrown out of the Band

  • @StephanJK-Technically he is still a member and still gets paid. He had a major heroin addiction, as he talks about on his own website. The other members did not want those demons revisited.

Really, is any of this so hard to look up?

  • Everyone knows Chris Stien is a waffling over rated crap guitarist. Who is he trying to fool? Himself maybe?

  • Chris Stien, a waffling overrated crap guitar player.

  • Destri is still working with Blondie, he's written songs on the new album Panic of Girls he just doesn't want to tour. As to the other guy, yea he was a roll player for a time, and Debbie and Chris want to support their current band members. Destri had a hand in writing some of their good songs but Blondie is largely Debbie, Chris and Clem Burke's amazing drumming. Everything you read about Debbie says she is very kind and generous.

  • @inatl17 The last thing I've heard about Jimmy Destri is that he brought a lawsuit against the current line-up of Blondie since he was not asked to join the sessions for Panic of Girls... I hope that it's not true, but it seems very likely to me. I've listened to a recent interview with him were he seemed to feel pretty bitter about the band :(

  • blondie is a fuckin idiot!!! egotistical bitch!! wasnt all about u debbie!! Band members too!! past and present.

  • @TheShepster80 blondie is mostly about debbie and chris

  • What Stein forgets is they were inducted for their work for the those four and half years not the past 20! Dickhead.

  • shitheads...maybe sueing them was the only way they'd get what they deserved...it's okay for him and harry who are sitting pretty

  • 70 rock goes blondie sucked why do shitty wastes of flesh like these crackheads get inducted while bands like megadeth and boston, deep purple are not fuck blondie

  • *sigh* i just need to shake my head at this, i mean my gawd Debbie Harry didn't have to diss Frank Infante like that!! they just wanted to perform with you guys for this one time and you just have to say, "Can't you see MY BAND is up there?'. ugh. so unfullfilling and rightfully so...i mean, i love Blondie to death but this was just tasteful and upsetting at the same time. Frank Infante is one of my favorite Blondie members of all time, the replacement for him isn't as awesome as he is. wow.

  • and on the plus side, is new lineup for them isn't the same as the lineup from 1977. i dunno, the "new Blondie" isn't on the popularity scale like they were back then and the songs they have aren't as memorable either. i prefer Blondie from thirty years ago than today, even though i've grown up in the nineties instead.

i'm hoping someday the reunion will come undone hopefully the original members can perform together and leave all this mess behind them.

  • oh cause as we all know rock and roll is all about fashion fuckin douche bags

  • I like Blondie, but calling them a punk band is ridiculous.

  • @717mienbao then you don't know much about blondie^^

  • @sonnenanbeter89

seriously...then what album of theirs has all those punk songs that I missed?

Ya know punk.. like the Ramones, Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, etc.

Where was this elusive Blondie album that has music like that??????

  • @717mienbao have you listened to songs like Underground Girl, Detorit 442, Kung Fu Girls, Living In The Real World, especially live? There's no Blondie album that's just made of "punk" songs (fortunately, that would be a rather boring album). Blondie's early performances (there are a lot of videos on here) were pretty raw and aggressive, just look for it :)

  • It's always sad to see bands fall apart, but it is a very, very common story. After multiple lawsuits what do people expect? Harmony? It's like a family in an estate dispute; nothing is ever the same and everyone is convinced they are right. I do think the ceremony should have been organized differently to avoid a predictably awkward situation, but the chance to avoid the appearance of pettiness was definitely a two way street, some of the very partisan comments I have read notwithstanding.

  • it's sad there are so many idiots here that can't appreciate blondie's music after the reunion. they still make great music, some is even better than their old stuff. it's even more sad that many of you guys can't get over the fact that nigel and frank and gary aren't in blondie anymore. the new members are as good as they were.

  • Just because someone isn't in the present incarnation doesn't mean he shouldn't be acknowledged for his part in the band's history.

  • that's NOT what I've said...

  • Oh, I wasn't necessarily responding to your comment - more to the attitude of the current principals in the band (I guess they should stop performing Presence, Dear, then).

  • why should they stop performing that song? Gary might have written it, but that's no reason fro the band to stop playing it. I guess Gary, Frank and Nigel were all acknowledged ( I do appreciate them, too!). they each did their part in the band great while being a member, but the current line-up does well either.

  • @sonnenanbeter89 blondie had 3 good albums and the rest I'd like to forget exist IMO

  • "Blondie" has hit a new low. Car commercials for Ira Toyota in Danvers, Massachusetts saying "Call Me! For a car, truck, van or SUV, Call Me!" I am not joking.

  • At least Infante and Valentine don't sound coked up every time they talk over the mic.

  • well after watching all the Old Blondie concerts with Frank & Nigel I think Chris sucks on guitar its all Frank Chris a just a twangier &Clem look at him hide his head when Chris & Debbie talk trash about there old band mates. The problem with Punk bands like Blondie and Talking Heads is they forgot there roots Chris is a jerk as is David or Talking Heads both shit on there band mates and now its all about the Money gee so much for being New wave Punk and not wanting 2 follow those 60's bands

  • Frank, Nigel and Gary should form a band and call it Blondie and hire some hot young bitch to sing. I bet Jimmy would want to join it.

  • Right On!! Great Call....

  • knob head

  • Keep my tool out of this ok?

  • Nigel Harrison Rules!

  • Smne trashed Nigel pretty hard on Wikipedia syin that he blew all of his Blondie $ and got a job at Capital Rcds and said that he was an arrogant deuchbag to everyone there. No clue if it's true-sounded like a low level person at Capital w an axe to grind but they gave really specific examples. Someone had it removed though. Still I would rather see him up there. Noone gives a shit about a "Parrallel Lines" tour with half the band not allowed to play or in JD's case too embarassed to play.

  • infante was right those other idiots wasnt gettin inducted so they should of put all their differences aside and played the eagles did aditwasgreat bu oh well desri narry n stein were the more superior songwriters

  • How can People say that Clem is a great drummer. Didn't he get kicked out of the Ramones because he couldn't play fast enough? And Chris stein gee after seeing him play he's about as gifted a guitar player as Weg White is a Drummer. For someone that was near death he sure turned into a homo.

  • RG - during the heyday, chris' contributions were invaluable! he may not be hendrix, but hes written great lyrics and music for Blondie. they ALL did. ok, nigel and frank to a lesser degree, but i still love me some "i know but i dont know!"

  • He is or at least was a great drummer. Haven't you ever heard "Dreaming"? When I saw them live though he either couldn't or could be bothered to play like that in concert. Same on "Call Me" which Debbie now has to sing in this lower key with a cougar voice that sounds like she's heavily medicated.

  • Chris Stein is full of shit. He wrote them off and that is why they sued him. What does he expect? He wrote them out of the band during the reunion and look what has happened to it. They are an embarassing oldies act now that only caters to marginal fans.

  • @kingofallwhites-You have no clue what you are talking about. Frank sued them all the way back in 1981. Its been a bunch of lawsuits since, the last in 1998 that the court threw out. Last I checked No Exit was a big commercial success worldwide. Chris and Debbie founded the band, brought Nigel and Frank in, made sure they were given an equal cut of royaties, did the brunt of the songwriting with Destri. Yet their ungrateful because they like a dozen other bands have had a falling out? Please.

  • @ihasch How do you know so much are you a groupie?

  • @kingofallwhites-No, but it's amazing what you can learn when you make an effort. When you publicly villify people you need to have the facts straight. These personal conflicts go way back. Maybe it's one person's fault, maybe the other. But it's music, not masochism. Blondie is not unique in this. And like you said, what do we expect? Maybe it's expected that lawsuits would emerge whatever their ultimate (lack of) merits, but its equally expected that the other side might seriously resent it.

  • why Debbie why?!?! *crying*

    i idolized you dammit!!!

  • Chris Stein, you are a fucking douche!!

  • I think thats what you get if you bite the hand that feeds you... Destri and Harry were the better writers anyway...

  • It's a special night. For this one night they should have put all differences aside and just get on with it. Leave all the trash behind for the night. It could have been handled better. It could have been even worse. Bottom line-It ruined what was a stellar night in my opinion.

  • I grew up with Frank and he's a great guy. He was a super guitar player back then.

  • I met Frank Infante in Hawaii and he told me his side of the story. He led me to this video in my office but he wouldn't watch it. He's a nice, personable guy that I think got screwed, like so many rockers do -- but mostly by the record companies. He's putting a band together now, and I think they should find another blonde vocalist and resurrect their own Blondie. Blondie was a band, not just Debbie. Could you imagine Robert Plant starting a new Led Zeppelin without Jimmy Page?

  • What did he have to say? I hate the current version of Blondie- they are pathetic. Bring back Infante.

  • Frank said they squeezed them out. Let's say it wasn't a friendly split. He told me I could search this video on youtube and I did. As I watched it, he wouldn't watch it with me and he turned away and walked out of the room. Anyway, we went and had a beer together at the pool bar... in the Sheraton Keauhou Bay... Heck of a nice guy.

  • I agree, the current members of Blondie are in serious denial if they think they can still make good music anymore.

  • Comment removed

  • holy crap im not alone! i dont trust chris on giving an unadulterated version of a story. i agree - post-'99 Blondie sucks. i dont care how long Leigh has been with them....he and the guitarist (have the cds but dunno what his name is!) suck.

i had summer '09 tour dates on my calendar but you know what? my $ will go to see Sonic Youth, Godsmack, and The Church - REAL bands that arent scared to rock, play with passion, and entertain. GIMME INFANTE/HARRISON AND PUT OUT SOME GOOD MUSIC, BLONDIE.

  • From what I have read, it seems that Chris Stein was jealous of Frank Infante's guitar talents and could never get past it. It should have been more than enough for him to have written hits and be boning DH back in the day. But he wanted it all... and now real fans don't bother going to their awful shows anymore. They suck. And frankly now I question whether they should even be in the hall of fame.

  • burned

  • Debbie deserves credit for not badmouthing people. She and Chris both deserve credit for trying to reunite the whole band for the comeback. The major obstacle was Nigels playing. Even with Clem on drums to help him out, Nigel couldnt keep the beat. Thats why so many featured players, like Eddie Martinez, performed with Blondie in the early 80s. Nigel was the original Curse of Blondie; next hell be suing them for having used that name sans his permission.

  • What were Paul and Leigh supposed to do while Frank and Nigel took their places— forget they were current members of the band? Debbie only comes off like a c—t here to people too stupid to see that these losers were out to humiliate her. That was their sole objective and she didnt let them get away with it. Good for her.

  • All bands have there problems and this band has seen many

I have seen them three times and even in a small club and they are so down to earth it would shock the average person.

Debbie and Chris are good people. Dont judge them if you dont know them!

  • Those of you making negative commments are missing the point. Harry and Stein were sued by them. Who would want to play with someone who brough legal action against you? All of a sudden Infante and Harrison want to be friends? They should have just said "thanks" for the chance to be in the band and left it at that. Stein made a valid point about Lee FOx. Blondie has since reformed with new members who have played with the band longer than Infante and Harrison.

  • Harrison and Infante were in the band during its heydey (1977 to 1982). Leigh Foxx was not in the band at the time. I think the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should have a rule which says that inducted members should be able to perform with a band they were a part of if they want to.

  • i also saw some comments on the sex pistols..........yes blondie are a great band but the sex pistols have always been the ultimate punk band

  • also when stein says he ony worked with nigel for 4 and a half years.....what he failed to mention was that those 4 and a half years were blondes most successful years...stein you prick

  • i watched a interview with debbie harry....where she described herself as menancing.now i know what she means..frank and nigel shouldnt have been treated like that.....chris stein is a complete ass and to full of himself....debbie you have gone down in my estimation big time.....

  • Would you want to play with someone who sued you?

  • Back in the early eighties as a lounge lizard in NYC, I frequented a club called AM/PM downtown. While at the bar hanging out, Clem Burke sideled up to me and bummed a cigarette. Not thinking then but this DICK made a lot more dough than me should have his own butts. I was a a little star struck. I played it cool didn't acknowlege him as a ROCK STAR. Looked away for a min. and back to find he was gone and so was my pack of Newports. Clem, you owe my a pack of cigaretts and you're band sucks.

  • jajajajajaj asi se hace debbie!!!!! jajajajajj que grande es esta mujer

  • Debbie is an ungrateful c--t I used to think she was cool but I don't listen to their music anymore because she has a rotten attitude, frank and nigel helped make blondie cool now i think debbie, chris, and clem are losers because they dropped their original bandmates and now sound like crap. They are also rude to fans, it's so pitiful that they continue touring after this incident

  • I'm just glad I'm not as rude as them.

  • I definitely wouldn't want to see the "new" Blondie in concert especially after knowing what happened at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

  • @rocknrollluv - They have always been really gratious and totally lovely when I have met them....

  • So sad. Frank and Nigel were a part of Blondie. And now they've lost Jimmy Destri too. WELCOME TO BINGO NIGHT indeed. Those four and a half years with Nigel were the most important of Blondie's history Mr Stein.

  • Frank and Nigel are integral members of Blondie and should have been involved in their comeback, even if only to play on this one event that was, after all commemorating the history of the band when they were at their brilliant best and these two were a big part of it. What we did see, was a pale immitation of what they used to be and Frank and Nigel looking like idiots. What a shame.

  • Debbie and Chris screwed Gary Valentine as well as Frank and Nigel. I love them, but they suck like that. Read Valentines' autobiography!

  • Just curious, how did Chris and Debbie screw Gary, Frank and Nigel? I know they sued, but what for? Thanks.

  • looks like a great performance, and shame on those two old coots who are nothing but self-serving cash hounds. debbie acted gracefully in coming running down to kiss the guys, they were acknowledged on stage, but did not incude themselves in the current line up then tried to upstage the presentation.

    Shaaaame...

  • wow those two look really sad. I wouldn't have even showed up if I was going to be snubbed like that.

  • i really want Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison back, they were my favorite Blondie members!! i can't believe they were ratted out by Debbie Harry!! how could you Debbie?!

    i'm very disappointed...T_T *crying*

  • Frank Infante was a big part of the sound that made them big, they should have let me play

  • Kinda sad when bands fall out like this. I'm glad most of my fav bands are still friends. Sabbath, Ac/dc, Zeppelin.

  • Kinda lame without Jim Destri.

  • The Sex Pistols are overrated.

    Blondie > The Sex Pistols

Plus, they've only ever had one studio album.

  • Debs abillity to sing helps also, blondie have rel. 7 albums and numerous compilations, they have 7 UK number 1s and 5 US number 1s. Sex Pistols are a bit of a joke. I doubt they could come back and have any crytical or comerical success...let alone critical aclaim and a millllllion selling number 1 (maria)

  • shirley manson + debby harry = (L)

  • And what is (L)?

  • Debbie Harry The Rock Goddess on bedroom walls all over the Universe-No one to compare

then now or Evermore. If there ever was a reason for time travel-to visit Debbie at her best with Blondie's Brilliant Music-Build it now!

  • Dunno... I mean... if they're not in the band anymore... why would they play? they're no longer members.

it's just a put up to gain popularity, or to break Debbie's fame apart. :S

  • Is it simply not all right for Debbie Harry to be other than beautiful? She looked swell then, she looks swell now, but like most people's faces her face is less than perfect. People who can't live with that should get out of the music business; they're fucking it up.

  • Typical music bullshit!

  • i dunno guys. It's like the former Blondie's four member Harry, Stein, Destri and Burke , the ones that shared the first years of the band in the Bowery loft made a deal. Probably Frank and Nigel have paid the fact they were additional although foundamental members. I think the bad sue thing came after the four (i bet Stein mainly) preferred to get 2 sessionman members. I'd like to know what was the part of Gary Valentine in that story, but he left the band in 1977.

  • I think the fact Stein has been also Debbie's boyfriend has conditioned the relationships in the band. That had bad and good conseguences. Chris was the first to believe in Debbie talents, the one that made the imprinting to the band, and the reason why Blondie didn't split when manager Peter Leeds asked Debbie to leave the band for enterprising a solo career. The bad are ones: the bad direction that musically had the band after 1980 and encourage Debbie to think she was mostly an actress.

  • It's a shame Nigel and Frank aren't part of Blondie anymore. Nigel's bass playing was a major part of Blondie for me, not to mention all the songs he co wrote. And Frank's great guitar playing.

  • Who's the third one that sued?

  • Maybe Gary Valentine? If there is a third one.

  • Where's me lucky chrms?

  • That's really upsetting to watch! Quite degrading to see professionals act like that.

Anyone else thinks that Nigel Harrison now looks like Michael Caine?

  • Stein said he only worked with Nigel Harrison for 4 and a half years. Hey Chris, those were the 4 and a half years anyone knew or cared who you were!

  • I saw Blondie in 1979 & have been a fan since, until recently when they didnt invite Nigel & Frank on the reunion tour. Chris knows money cut four ways is MORE than six. Then they wouldn't let them join in the at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame because Nigel & Frank sued them for not inviting them on the reunion tour. They got screwed TWICE. Frank & Nigel were a BIG part of Blondie. Debby & Chris have ruined Blondie's reputation.

  • i agree, tomdib. what chris might not realize, is that the 4 yrs w/ Nigel were blondies incredible run of great albums. the two post-reunion albums were just terrible. quality vs quantity.

  • Clem Burke is one of the greatest drummers alive but his talent is being wasted on the "just keep the beat" music that I believe Chris has steered them towards. The first 5 albums are INCREDIBLE! That's the Blondie that the original fans expected from a reunion. I agree with your re:2 post reunion albums. It was missing the sound that Frank & Nigel brought to the band. PLEASE Blondie, reconsider you're position and get them back for a tour. Don't let Blondie's incredible legacy end this way.

  • I think often the truth stands in the middle. I think many songs from 5th album were horrible (that was refused as soundtrack for 007 film), and Stein has such a big part in it. Meanwhile some from new albums are more than good and Stein has a part in that(listen a couple on Live in NewYork City 1999) but obviously they don't track the trend.

  • It appears that Frank & Nigel didn't want to be part of the reunion initially, & then when it became successful changed their mind & by then it was too late. Is this not what happened? (please clarify with FACTS)

  • Frank emailed me that they were not asked to take part in the reunion.

  • ok got it, got it, got it!

  • Frank emailed me that when he emailed you he was lying.

  • ha ha :)

  • Well the way I heard it...and this echoes somewhat what Imaginary Gallery said...is that Nigel and Frank didn't want to do the reunion in 1998, but then when the rest of the band reunited anyway Nigel and Frank proceeded to sue them for reuniting without them.

  • i still dont agree with what they did, kind of stabbed them in the back. they sued them because they were not included on the records. they still were in the band and you cant just totally ignore that as they did. i think its to hard to make any judgments without hearing both sides of the story.

  • Frank emailed me that they were not asked to take part in the reunion.

  • Well, I just got it straight from Frank Infante. Here is the cut & paste of his email:

"No Nigel and myself were not asked to join the reunion.

    Frank Infante"

It's just as I said in my earlier post. Chris decided that reunion money split 4 ways is more than 6 ways. I blame Chris & Debby for the turn that Blondie took. Opening for "The New Cars" ?!?! With Frank & Nigel it would have been vice versa.

  • yah i've heard both sides of the arguement, but io think blondie are not lieing, i think that that is jsut more likly, and debbie has so much class i doubt she would stand there and lie about it. But i do hope they rejoin, after all none of them are old old...like all blondie fans lets hope, and be thankful that they are back either way

  • You don't understand. The 4 of them got back together and didn't ask Frank & Nigel. When Frank & Nigel sued them for that, they wouldn't allow Frank & Nigel to play @ the H.O.F. induction "because they sued us." Really lame, don't you think?

  • NO, i do understand. that is frank and nigels story, the core band stroy is that they(NIGEL AND FRANK) sued so the core band couldnt preform under the name blondie, after they refused to re-join. Chris goes on about rock and roll...well show some dignitey and let them play, they were a core partr of the band and apeared on all the album covers ect. Pink Floyd reformed to sing...and there arguments were far more vishus, and they occur after a similar senario.

  • You're right, but I can't imagine Frank, Nigel & Gary refusing to join. It makes no sense. And like Judge Judy says: If it doesn't make sense, it's not true. Seems to me like they were waiting for the day Blondie would reform, and then when they did reform without them, they sued. Frank Infante emailed me & told me they were not asked to be part of the reunion.

  • to be honest is was a bit ropey and it was only chris that was a really keen on it, i know deb was not sure at all about it, and only agreed to reform if they released a more songs and wrefused to be and oldy band. It was a bit of a risk, no band or artist that has been away for a sustained legnth of time has ever really manage to make it to the big time again ,and they did getting a number one here in the UK with maria, and then nothing is real but the girl charting really well as well

  • Frank emailed me that they were not asked to take part in the reunion.

  • wow shirley has an extraordinary accent...... amazing

  • She's just scottish

  • Frank is such a wimp!!

look at him making a face on 1:42...such a wimp!!

  • Yeah he should have slapped Debby in the face and broken Chris Stein's nose.

  • Obviously you are forgetting the Talking Heads here.
