this was before the world cup, when tackle laws were ridiculously reenforced, tip tackles are normally penaltys, driven into the groun dyellow and could be red depending on how dangerous it is. Highs are red if deliberate etc, that's how it should be, not straight red for tips it's pussy shit

In my opinion I think it shouldn't matter if you are driven into the ground or not, as long as you are dumped over the horizontal. If over the horizontal you could land awkwardly and break your neck, it doesn't just have to come from the drive into the ground. I'm Aussie and i think both here pretty fair calls. Just my opinion.

To be fair if Coopers is a yellow Fouries is a red, Cooper had all ready commited to the tackle where as Fourie deliberately speared some one which if i remember rightly he also done to David Wallace in the 2009 Lions series?

I dont understand how you can 'cite' a player if he has already been yellow carded during the match surely he has already been cited if that is the case and punished, the Boks are horrendous this year their basic play is atrocious but it is to be expected with such a poor coach and playing guys out of position

I feel the game is being over-sanitised. The scrum, the maul, the tackle, the ruck area, all key areas of the game, are being eroded in the the impossible pursuit of 100% safety. Rugby players know and accept the risks when they step on the field. Neither of these tackles would or did result in injury - yet the same punishment, a yellow card, was handed out to Bakkies Botha for a deliberate headbut. If the refs are going to be so yellow card happy, but not issue reds, we will need one in between

@dumpedbyRD ...I agree it seems harsh. Obviosly they are really cracking down on lifting in the tackle. I don't think JDV not being yellow carded had anything to do with his initial suspension because 10 minutes sin bin doesn't equal 160 minutes suspension. I think the 2 are unrelated.

By that school of thought, if yellow carding a guy isn't good enough, then they're saying they should have been red carded on the spot? Seems crazy, especially as all three 'tip tackles' were pretty tame

@dumpedbyRD ...referees are probably scared to use a red card incase they have made a mistake and a team loses because of it.........where as use of the judiciary panel and suspension punishes the player rather than the whole team. Mind you if the refereee had seen Bakkies Botha's head butt that should have been a straight red card.
