@missbossdondiva The chicken is a rotisserie from Wal-mart or WinnDixie, I don't like the smell of boiled chicken and yes you can use noodles. I just tried this because of a teacher friend told me how to do it , at first I thought she was crazy, I've alway made mine from scratch like my Granny taught me. Its the next best thing when it comes to quick and easy and the mess is less. Thanks for the comment.
My dumplings tasted sweet, yuck. Are they suppose to taste that way? I followed instructions only added a few peas and carrots for color. Just wondering was it suppose to have the sweetness??
@0badboy0 A teacher friend Mrs. Baugh told me about doing the dumplings like this, I thought Yuck . But it works, when I'm in a hurry and don't have time to make my own I do this. It works for a quick fix. Thanks for stopping by.
@cranberryarrow I never thought of that. That would make it even quicker. Thanks for the ideal. I could use the pizza cutter when I make my real dumplings.
@harley8911 That's what I thought to, until I tried it. So Yes Way!, it works. This is a quick and easy no mess, in just min. When I put in 10 to 12 hours a day and want something close to homecooking and not some fast food this is it. Thanks for stopping by have a wonderful weekend.
@mikerkeenan I felt the same way until I tryed it. A teacher friend Mrs. Baugh told me about doing the dumplings like this, I thought Yuck to. But it works, when I'm in a hurry and don't have time to make my own I do this. It works for a quick fix.
Good job, kudos. I have to say that being a Carolina woman, where they originated. I stood on a stool at 10 and cooked chicken n' dumplings, 3 times a week, for a dozen farm hands. A hen is cooked for hours, then I split the natural broth. Part is used for the rice, and the other half is used for the naturally kneeded flour dumplings. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!
@tbsosnj the broth has to be boiling, and cook them fast. Like I said a teacher friend told me about this, and I had to try it myself to see how it would turn out. It was great for a fast meal. My mother -in-law tried it and did it her way with boiled water no seasoning, and a boiled chicken and she put the tortillas in before the water was hot. It was a mess. You have to cook it right or it will not turn out good. :)
Wow this is the second time I found someone using flour tortillias .never heard that before.. Awesome! im going to try this... the food looks awesome... Yummy...
A teacher friend (Mrs. Baugh) told me about this, I only do this when I've worked late and have to throw something together in a hurry. It's an easy clean up to. Make sure you taste as you are cooking.
Most of us southerners make Home-made chicken and dumplings on Sunday after Church. Grandma boils up the old hen and her and the rolling pin goes to town on making the dumplings. This is call Quick and Easy Chicken and Dumplings not Southern Chicken and Dumplings I would never get the two mixed up. I sorry you miss understood the video. My videos are quick and easy with short cuts for the working person and family. You have a wonderful day now. Thanks for stopping by. :)
you are awesome I am new to your site. I wanna ask have you ever tried it using biscuits I did and it was great. Well you know biscuits swell so what i do is get pillsbury the reg buttermilk kind not flaky type cut each biscuits in small pieces or in 1/4 pieces then I drop them in the hot stock cover 5-7 min and they are delicious if doughy cook alittle longer I swear they are great. I plan to see more of your videos. let me know what you think
Your right, that's not how I make southern chicken and dumplings. This is a quick and easy way for someone who is working long hours and doesn't have the time to do boiling of the chicken and cooling of the chicken and pulling the meat of the chicken bones and making the dough and rolling out the dumplings and cleaning up the mess.
use Bisquik or flour and baking powder...and buttermilk...ROLL the dough out to about 1/8"....the broth should be cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, and tons of seasons...and butter for richness. Just a suggestion gal.
I didn't know one could use tortillas until one of my teacher friends told me. At first I thought she was making a Joke. So I tried it for myself, For quick and easy and no mess they taste good. When I have time I do make real dumplings. If you have the time you can't beat the real thing.
You're awsome. I like your cook ware. I am slowly getting rid of my teflon pans because now that I am getting better at cooking, I am noticing teflon pans suck. I will keep one small one for hash browns I guess. 5 stars great videos :)
Thanks for the commet. Some of the cookware that I use is called "Tool of The Trade"stainless steel cookware from Macy's. Make sure whatever cookware you get they have a heavy thick bottom, this will event out the heat and wont burn fast like the thin cookware.
I've only had chicken and dumplings twice in my life, once as a kid and once 2 years ago when I was visiting Atlanta, Ga. I can't wait to make my own batch! I'm in love.
This is the quick and easy way of making dumplings if you like your dumplings a little thicker use canned biscuits and roll them out and cut them into small strips. They both taste good. Let me know how they turn out. TooTiredTeacher
this is a great Idea. what people fail to realize is that tortillas are basically dough but thinner. what was the total time do you leave the tortillas in the broth before the dish is complete?
Yes your right tortillas are basically dough, if I have time and not too tired I will use biscuits but they make a mess. As for the total time about 5 min. it depends on how many you are cooking. Make sure the chicken broth is boiling to start with, the best way to tell if the tortillas are done, let them fluff up a little then taste. Tasting you food is the best way of knowing when things are done and is season just right.
Tortillas actually kind of make sense for a quick replacement, since its components are the same as biscuit/dumpling dough. Flour, shortening, salt and a liquid is a basic tortilla- they're just rolled thinner and lack leavening.
Regardless, looks yummy and is one of those dishes that is truly homemade looking but still easy. I'm going to try this!
Omg, yessss like I said, Quick and Easy, during the week I work 10 to 11 hours a day. On the weekends the real dumplings come out to play. I felt the same way when Mrs. Baugh, a teacher friend told me about the Tortillas. I tried it and it worked. TooTiredTeacher
Glad it worked out for you. I think I will try you Campbell's way and make a few changes to see what happens. I like a challenge. I'll let you know. TooTiredTeacher
Well, this put me in the food for chicken and dumplings, but during the work day where I only have a few minutes to get food.
I broke up a tortilla into Campbell's chicken noodle soup and it did not work out so well. I'll try again the right way. Thanks for the interesting dumpling idea.
I drained most of the liquid from the soup can to reduce the salt, and added pepper, garlic, flour and oil, and it came out quite nice. Quick meal, too.
Thanks again for the recipe, I look forward to cooking it the right way.
no evaporated milk?
