the "true" love of a car (chevy, ford, dodge, etc,) is in a person's heart. why does everyone feel the need to say oh this ones better. thats bullshit! there's a lemon in everything evrybody makes!!! ESPECIALLY CARS!!! so quit hatin', and just enjoy these disappearing beauties. :D ALL OF EM!!!
It is a shame that this car was only produced for one year as a high-compression 454 muscle car. Despite that there is retro-styling today, we will never see cars like this again as they are plastic and loaded with computer chips. These old Chevelles are a very rare breed... makes me want to get a loan and buy one now!
@8LLRoadranger Except for the 2011-2012 392 Hemi Challenger, which produces 470 HP/470 Ft-Lbs and is naturally aspirated; and runs 124-12.9 bone stock.
@SOFSoldier No, that does not matter... Ford and Chevy have cars that can do that... there is a lot more to a car than the time it runs in the quarter mile... the Chevelle has character that NO CAR has today. That is why it is high-ticket classic muscle car... today's plastic molded, computer-chip cars just plain lack class, style, and the hands-on engine under the hood.
Excellent post! Definetly got wood on that one!! Why cam't GM have a speciality division that produces these classics for us regular joes? They would make a killing!!!
In street trim with full factory exhaust the LS6 had to be tweaked and tuned to get it to perform like it should. A Buick GS Stage 1 was within a tenth of a second in 1/4 mile e.t. and that's with A/C, and power everything. You couldn't get any power accessories with the LS6. When Motor Trend tested the GS Stage 1 with no power accessories or A/C the automatic ran 13.38 at 105 mph.
@Bag0fRats actually, these were rated horsepowers, and truth be told, where actually usually low balling the actually horsepower to keep government away. the reason that guys 08 stang can do anything is cuz his plastic and fibreglass car weighs less and because, despite my love for the carberator, electronic fuel injection is more efficiant, and traction control stop them from spinning out, which was a major problem with our cars. also, we used points ignition.

I think they mean crank power.. there's always alot of powerloss trough the drivtrain.. the 454 ls6 can put out more than 510hp at the crank just by blueprinting it.. have a buddy of mine who did this an dyno'd at 514.5 crank hp..
I'm a ford guy all the way but god dam it you got to give it up to chevy for this 1970 chevelle ss i would choose this over any car any day

@ugslamma the thing had traction issues. Its tires were not all up to spec.
But yea, the horsepower ratings are a little all over the place. Especially back in the '60's.

@chevelleSS396lover I agree, the thing did not have 500hp. It only trapped 104mph. Probably put down 375rwhp or so.
