Placebo effect wouldn't work on animals, that's why there are vets using homeopathy in their practices, around the country. I've used homeopathy successfully on myself to save an abscessed tooth and my GP prescribed me with: Belladonna to treat mastitis, as I'm severely allergic to antibiotics.

@TetsugakuSanRubbish! Farm animals are not susceptible to the notion of placebo. A study of pigs in 1999 revealed homeopathic remedy was more effective than both the placebo and the routine dose of antibiotics. Only when the antibiotic dose was increased did it compare favourably to homeopathy.

@TetsugakuSan A recent double blind test conducted by the Physcho/Biology department in a major university, is just one scientific example which resulted in appreciation for the efficacy of homeopathy being as effiacious as prozac. I think i'll continue to research homeopathy and will continue to use homeopathy, without the disaterous side effects of antidepressants or antibiotics.
