indiana were some tough guys. they had guys step up and handled the pressure time after time. you can see how larry birds mentallity and confidence rubbed off on guys like smits, best, rose and mckey. Great series but in the end there was no stopping michael jordan.
GREAT series. IMO the championship the Bulls won in 98 was maybe the most impressive of them all...because it seemed like the team was on fumes (older team...playing for a 3rd straight year deep into the playoffs) and just willed themselves to win as opposed to simply being superior in talent. They won this series and the Utah series on pure heart and guts.
5:40 and 5:57 - his left foot slightly tripped over mckey's foot that's why he fell, not really jordan's or mckey's fault just incidental contact and jordan knew it, he didnt even complain
the defensive job they did against Jordan this game was phenominal. They posted Jordan up with a big defender made his work on both ends of the court. Jordan still had a great game but he worked for everything he got. Jalen Rose did a great job as well defending him.
No way at all Jordan was fouled... Shame on these announcers for saying mckie pushed him... Jordan the gambler who had stern on his u know what.. Was awesome.. But he got more calls then anyone in the history of the NBA.. Shame on the announcers for saying mckier fouled him... Not even close St all
you know the best thing about this video? Jordan may have gotten fouled when he fell...but whatever the case he did...not...complain...Kobe wouldve bitched...and yall know LeBron would have...damn i miss this era
@TheBrainMachine78 it's ok because jordan would make up for it time after time after time. he's allowed a few of those. Jordan is human but above everyone else in the game of basketball.
For the people that don't get basketball strategy: Collins suggested that McKey miss the second free throw because if/when the Bulls rebounded the ball, a big man would have to heave a blind shot full court to score or there would be no time to heave one anyway. The Bulls would not be able to hand it to a scorer or set a play up for a scorer.
If he made both, the Bulls could 20 sec TO and set up a play at the basket. There is always the chance of the 3pt and one. That equals 4 and the tie.
just like yesterday... just watched game 7 too... that was one of the most intense games of all time, everyone stepped up, true teamwork. And of Michael Jordan is GOAT...
Not sure what you mean by "pay again". It was always Bird and the Celtics who denied Jordan's Bulls time and time again in the playoffs in the 80's...But yes, Jordan is the greatest, but he seldom got the best of Bird.
I have to echo what others have said about this series being one of the best ever. A very entertaining and nerve-racking series that showcased the greatness of both teams. It's a shame Indiana didn't reach the finals, but regardless of the outcome, fans were treated to an amazing series full of emotion and excitement.
One question I have is how did this Pacer team fail to reach the finals the following year? How did they lose to the knicks after almost beating the far superior bulls?
It's possible to find examples where MJ arguably should have passed, but when he's driving to the center of the court to draw more defenders and trips before you see what decision he makes, you can't really call that hogging the ball.
One of the most underrated playoff series ever was this series right here. Clutch performances from BOTH teams the whole way through, M.J. vs. Reggie, Bird vs. Jackson, teams trading homecourt win after homecourt win.
These were two teams so evenly matched you couldn't tell them apart. This series, along with the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals between Detroit and Boston and the 1993 Western Semifinals between Houston and Seattle, are the three most underrated playoff series ever.
If you watch the entirety of this series, you'll notice that MJ was driven to dominate the ball by the abject failure of his teammates.
Pippen was in serious pain with an injured back, Kukoc played like crap except for one game, and Rodman was at the end of his career.
Jordan, also running on fumes given his age, had to summon the energy to take over the game. That's why this series may be his finest performace: he had ZERO help and still didn't let them lose.
@HuskerFanatic Excellent post. I read that this team was voted Indiana's greatest ever; even better than the 1999-00 team that made it to the Finals.
I'd put the Miami-New York series from the 1999-00 playoffs right up there in the underrated pantheon. But, really, how could you go wrong with any of these teams in the playoffs? Heat-Knicks, Knicks-Pacers, Pacers-Bulls, Knicks-Bulls, those teams couldn't STAND each other. The NBA in the 1990's were the halcyon days for me.
@HuskerFanatic Now the best series is going to be Heat Bulls I think, itll be awful because the pacers shoudlve beaten the bulls in the first round in 6
just bcos they had won the game so call 'give face' and they also know that 0.04 of the second chicago cant make a full court 3 point.. previously when mj was rushing for the last shot in the paint i guess there was a foul by derrick mckey but the ref miss it.

Amazing that, during their six championship years, Jordan's Bulls only faced two elimination games.
This was a great series. Travis Best gave the Bulls fits. Larry Bird did a great job coaching that team.

God, I miss the NBA on NBC. They did it right.
I feel like a geezer when I say this, but it just isn't the same today. Not the teams, not the players, not even the rivalries.

Why would he miss it on purpose at 5:05? What a retard he is and so are the announcers. Make the free throw and put your team up 4

Why was KERR IN versus BEST. Jordan did not NEED Kerr to stretch floor as
HE KILLED INDIANA all day.
If Harper is in ... this never happens with BEST.

I can't tell you how much I'd love for the Pacers to build this caliber of a team again. They've suffered ever since the Pistons/Pacers incident.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that this was the best Pacer team ever. It's a shame THIS group had to go against the mighty Bulls.

Gotta love how MJ made Larry Bird pay again after all those years.

Because that Knicks/Pacers series was more scripted than a World Wrestling Entertainment main event. Remember the Larry Johnson phantom 4 point play?
HuskerFanatic 2 years ago
@insomniac629 Unfortunately, after this year, the team had sort of a fallout.

great contrast in styles between these teams. gotta root for the pacers tho--great shooters.
ultimately the two best players were bulls tho and that's too much to overcome.
this is the worst broadcast team ever. costas has a mirror set up so he can watch himself broadcast.
