  • Answer-of coarse

  • If any of you are art and design student, You should know how great Apple is.

  • AM I WIRED UR QUITE FIT :p LOL X

  • Slide to unlock lol

  • Everything you wished for happened.

  • here in england my school apple dosnt give a crap for englands schools

  • lol.. have you seen how terribly funded some of the states in America are when it comes to education..

  • in my school were getting ipads ipad 2

  • Comment removed

  • Everyone from 6-12 grade has a Macbook Air 11" for school given to us by the school! Thank you God for this blessing!:)

  • @capsguy8 Sounds more like a punishment to me.

  • David would you suggest buying an imac G4?

  • iRead perhaps? ;)

  • An updated eMac

  • Comment removed

  • @DavidDiFranco I would use iTunes U. Actually, I already use it, even though I'm not in college yet.

  • no they can't

  • The one thing I see that Apple has failed on but hasn't attempted to retry is an Apple Digital Camera. I've never seen one in person but I know they have made a camera before. What are your thoughts on one and would you buy it? Say, priced at $500 as a DSLR or about $200 for a point n shoot. And no the iSight doesn't count. Love your vidz. keep it up btw.

  • I don't like "electronized" textbooks. With physical textbooks, I can take notes, annotate, highlight, write side info, doodle on the side in a matter of seconds. Another benefit of physical textbook is that I can jump to a page, or flip to many pages very quickly. I'd rather have an OPTION of having textbooks on my iPad, but physical textbooks would always be my first choice.

  • iTunes U was an essential tool for me completing my master degree. Look forward to their announcement.

  • but they don't because they have to pay the textbook company

  • Apple is amazing but I honestly don't think they have the power to change education.

  • Very interesting.

  • That's cool. I wish my high school would have done this. I give it 10 years for all the high schools to rid themselves of textbooks completely

  • My highscool tht is being built atm is only going to have ipads no lockers no txtbooks

  • David, do you game on your mac pro via steam?

  • thank you very much buddy.there were lots of expectations abt this but i m looking forward to be event held on jan19th

  • I am in my 4th and last year of university studying computer science and physics. A physics textbook can easily reach $150 and when each course requires one, it can get a little ridiculous. I have stopped buying textbooks after my first year and have resorted to getting them through "other" means. If they had been in ebook format for like $30 I would have had no problem purchasing them. Unfortunately, until uni textbook publishers stop demanding so much for their books, we will have a problem.

  • Everything SOUNDS good and all but there are a few issues. First of all, what if you are trying to study for hours in the library and all you have is a tablet which stores your books. What happens when that tablet runs out of battery? Also, reading from an electronic screen for hours on end isn't the greatest. It can cause eye strain. These are some things to consider before we make education fully digital. However, I fully agree with the concept. In theory, it has extreme potential.

  • Certain schools in the UK already have been using iPad's & iPod's including my school as a trial. We use applications such as AutoCad and also SketchBook for art work in the design departments. Some schools have given every a student iPod touches as a note, research and creativity tool. These devices are fantastic and so easy to use, wether you like it or not this is the future! I will be interested to see what the outcome of the event is! :)

  • @JamesDavid94 Is it better to learn with them? Haha my school wants to do it but I'm not sure, is it the same teaching style just with iPads instead of textbooks?

  • A city here in Denmark just gave away free iPad 2's to all the students and pupils in the city. Pretty generous, but I think it'll become ''mainstream'' one day.

  • @UbuntuHelpGuy was it at the expense of the city, or apple?

  • @TheSamMabe the city of course

  • Awesome video!

  • I hate digital stuff when it comes to school.

  • Textbooks on the iPad is absolutely going to happen. When they were developing the first iPad, Steve REALLY wanted to make a deal with publishers that would allow the iPad to come with FREE textbooks for college. Obviously this didn't happen, but I can almost guarantee that we will see a textbook store in a short time.

  • I recon it will be textbooks for the iPad.

  • I like to see that apple made an new macbook line for education only. So a nice macbook with a little bit less power than the macbook pro, with a few nice colors.

and i like your vids much!

  • I am attending Missouri State University and have taken a few hybrid/blended courses that offer the lectures through iTunes and about half of my classes that I have taken offer the books online now. Makes things much much more convenient and saves you a lot of money.

  • Apple FTW!

  • yeah textbooks dude

  • Ebook textbooks

  • all of these awesome products thanks to Steve Jobs and the rest of the apple team

  • My mother is a teacher and her school provided her with an iPad for use teaching Biology, and she says it's amazingly useful in the classroom. Of course she uses it for personal use as well, (Angry Birds) :P

  • @TheTenderhooligan Hey, this is a stupid question haha but my school wanna introduce iPads to us and our teacher but I was wondering how your mom teaches with it? Like is it different from ordinary teaching just digitalized?

  • @kontakkis She uses apps that are Biology related, and she uses an adapter to connect the iPad to a projector so that the whole class can see. I don't think she uses it all of the time, but occasionally it comes in quite handy, since there are so many apps that can be really informative.

  • @TheTenderhooligan So it doesn't do her job for her, just helps in a way? :)

  • @kontakkis Exactly... In the same way that a whiteboard marker does. (Except it's a lot better than a whiteboard marker :P)

  • @TheTenderhooligan Sounds cool, thanks for the info!

  • Apple is still a company, their main goal is making money.

They won't change education forever, this is just a smart marketing move.

    Don't get to excited...

  • @Boyulut retard

its not only to make money

  • @Boyulut They changed computing and phones, but still made money.

  • More then likely apple will announce text books on the ipad if the they are really smart they will even add the ability to jot down notes just like you did on physical books. I would like to see igital text books on all tablets YES even android tablets Kindle fire lol. Apple may be the first but they should not the only ones offering this service to students.

  • Maybe its something we cant even think of. Who thought that there will be an iPod before the media event. We'll see.

  • Ehhh my name is David!! Btw I am Canadian.

  • David what do you think about the rumor that the ipad 3 will be relesed/annoced on febuary 3rd steve jobs birthday ? and have you read the steve jobs book>?

  • Do you play minecraft?

  • in my school every junior or senior has a ipad

  • I'd rather see textbooks-ebook format. :)

  • The iDesk...tablets the size of a desk that have everything you need in it

  • LOL you made me spit out my water when you said "like a mother"

  • iPad 3 WTF!! Apple slow down.

  • I think the "education discount" should count towards the iPad. Even though it's already "cheap" It's still out of reach for alot of people!!!

  • Being a college student, I'm looking forward to this event. I truly hope they unleash something revolutionary. I hope they'll come out with something that will make an iPad purchase relevant to my college education.

  • Microsoft and Google have already started to help revolutionise education in the CS field (guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/jan/11/michael-gove-boring-it-lessons) perhaps Apple could help with input into Arts courses as they seem to put a lot of focus into style/UI fluidity

  • I work at a Boys and Girls Club inside of a middle school, and I see students using Apple computers in the classrooms for educational purposes. The computers at the school where I work are horribly outdated, slow, and bug-ridden. Apple computers can last well beyond 5 years after they're built and sold. I don't think Apple could change education FOREVER, but the potential for Apple to change education is a reality.

  • Our kids will be like us. We usually teach our parents things. Soon we will be asking our kids, "How do you turn this on!" OR "How do I turn the page?"

  • david are you getting the ipad 3

  • I hope textbooks come to Apple soon.. I get a headache when reading something from a book with bright white page colors. With the iPhone, I can dim it down to where it's my comfort level. ALSO, I would want to see interactiveness with iBooks and textbooks. Like a video of a math example. How nice would that be? That'll be perfect! Then they will make something like a desk - hook up the iPad and see everything on the desk.. Then we will be in the century of flying cars and cell phones in our eyes

  • My teacher always said with the way technology is now, we are most likely to see textbooks on a tablet.. Preferablly iPad2.

  • If this means cheaper textbooks then I'm all for it. I refuse to pay $150+ on a book that is only lightly used in class. It's pure robbery simply because textbook publishers have a stronghold on the market.

  • Even if it was something as simple as textbooks on the iPad, that would be a breakthrough. Sure...the Kindle already has this, but to have not just college level textbooks like the Kindle, but also K-12 textbooks would be amazing. Here is to hoping Apple returns to it's roots of catering to education more.

  • I remember Apple being in the classroom when I was in grammar school (about 15 years ago). Personally, I can't stand tablet devices for reading -- especially on devices like the iPad, the eye strain becomes too much after a while, especially for reading. Textbooks on e-book readers? Yes. Tablets? Absolutely not.

  • I don't mind carrying around text books. I mind paying $100+ per book.

  • Typical fanboy can't give anyone else credit for technology. Apple isn't the only company out there that is doing good stuff.

  • If they start having textbooks on iPad that would convince me to buy an iPad. Right now, I have no practical use for an iPad. I have an iPhone for on the go and a Laptop for here at home, sitting on the couch.

  • there are rumours for this event around iWork 12 !

  • I think it's ridiculous that everyone wants to virtualize the world. Technology has it's place, but sometimes things that, um, actually exist, are better, because well, they actually exist.

  • Text books (would be nice to have interactive ones or at least animations) and iTunes U updates. But maybe more importantly make it international!!

  • ok but u said in all of ur videos that ur family is a apple fan so wats the point

  • @WeatherMaNhq Hello Mr.Naïve, that's completely not true. The iPad is the only tablet on the market right now which doesn't suck and it's easy to set up and use. Many schools have already implemented iPads to reduce the costs of textbooks.

  • They already did, we use Macs and Windows based PCs at school. And without apple, neither windows or Mac OS would exist

  • The Verge

  • i follow you, and cutlerylover for the same reason, and despite the fact that you have 2 completely different hobby channels, you both are unbelievably passionate about what you like, and thats what i love to see

  • @MrTylerODonnell Thank you! Passion is key.

  • @thecreativeone great videos, man. keep doing what your doing, and I'll keep watching.

  • Honesty I prefer to have a textbook bcuz it easier to read and if ur not good at technology it really easier what about for the index?

  • I wanna see homework answers

  • My whole school got ipad 2s and the smart cover and a key board with all our text book on it so we dont bring anything to class.

  • GREAT Topic David - I agree, it's about time to fade away from text, or at least offer the digital alternative for folks with capable devices. According to the Student Monitor, 2010-2011 data reflects that 77% of college students purchased books, and that 77% paid an average of 600-700+ dollars for the school year. Hopefully technology like this will help drive down the cost of education, allowing more students to attend college.

  • I really want to see textbooks on the iPad, even the iPhone considering the amount of people at my school who have them. Our business department just got 200+ iPads in a recent technology grant, and most of my classes will already be on the iPad. But as for textbooks, they would be extremely useful.

  • I don't think an I pad would be well suited cuz kids would just play games and there isn't much apps and apple doesn't have to much to offer. not ti mention their expensive prices. I pads will drop and brake also and we don't even use the computers that much at my school.

  • I don't think Apple should get anymore involved in education because; they are a company, and their main objective is to earn money. Reading an actual book beats reading an ebook anyday, you don't want kids to be on a screen 24/7. It's also actually proven that writing by hand with a pencil helps you remember better. I'm not totally against this though, senior high/college should be the primary market, but I'm afraid they're interested in implementing their products in elementary school.

  • @EdinhoBIH - I'm going to have to disagree. Yes, Apple is a company, and yes their primary objective is to earn money. These changes are simply too massive to be completely left upon the general public to accomplish due to financial and development restraints. Let's remember that apple is a technological pioneer with the budget to assist.

  • @TheSamMabe What do you disagree with? All you say is that these changes can't be stopped. I'm questioning wether or not this will result in better learning for the students.

  • @EdinhoBIH I disagree with your statement that apple shouldn't be "more" involved in education.

  • @TheSamMabe ok, but what's your reason for disagreeing? What's your argument for them being more involved ?

  • I think apple should make a google app but it's not completely like google and it's not named google like a built in app were u can search up stuff and were there's info about stuff if u know what I'm saying

  • Can't you buy/rent textbooks from Kindle on the iPad? It also allows you to mark it and even stores it in their could for future use if you re-rent the book.

  • is there money to be made? i guess is the question.

  • the thumbnail made it look as if you had a stubble....that'd be interesting. di Franco with facial hair...wish to try it out some day?

  • I really hate my school because they still use windows and it sucks

  • @CapnSynthesizeMe You hate your school solely because you think Windows sucks? phff...

  • Simple: No, because it is a an over-rated fanboy company. Why you may ask? Well, Mr. Idiot who can't figure this out because he has no common sense:

You pay way more for what you're getting. Schools cannot afford their fanboy steampiles.

If schools are really willing to pay this much for simple technology, I think I could make a wealthy living by just telling them the opposite.

  • i would use the iphone 5

  • They've already changed education forever with the Mac and the iPad. And with all of their other products as well. This event will probably just focus on digital textbooks or some type of partnership offering.

  • You're right, I use to read books on my computer all the time, no eye strain for me. This is a good idea, no paper. If it does give you a headache you can always use a textbook. Most people will use the tablet or computer. one computer or a tablet can account for the majority of your textbooks. This is a good idea.

  • When I look at a tablet i get a noise in my head after 20 minutes. It's like peewerrreeew, why is this?

  • if you want to dramatically increase your subscription base i guarantee these type of recent topic discussions will do it!

  • @utuberoxxz I'm trying. :) Thanks for the positive feedback!

  • Yes. Apple can and Apple will.

  • At our school we get a Macbook pro and an iPad 2, so I think our school has already started doing this, and we have some kind of app which works just like a textbook, u can type AND draw on it. i love it, i just carry around those 2 things.

  • im in the 6th grade and i really have 20 pounds of books

  • will they ever bring back the eMac?

  • @TheComputerImprover Schools just buy regular iMacs. My school has the new 21.5" iMacs.

  • No they don't. The computers are expensive for basic specs, so that's no good for a school budget. The iPad has limited educational apps, and also expensive, so no good either. They already made an attempt years ago with the eMac, which ultimately failed in my opinion.

  • Thumps up if you think David, should do a special winter tour of a geek's room! :P

  • Any alternative to getting RAPED by the book resellers at the end of the semester when you try and sell back your books is a good idea to me. Its all about cost for me and albeit that it wouldn't be a physical book anymore if in ebook format, I'd get used to it real quick if it was saving me money on textbooks.

  • I would never stare at a tablet that long, And I only own 1 thing from Apple which is my iPod Shuffle, That I don't use. I don't like it

  • New iWork?

  • But think about people who get motion sickness or nausea from being at a computer too long, *Me* I get motion sick from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time on nintedo 64, staring at a tablet for 30+ minutes? Hell no

  • @EmmaAnime96 You get motion sickness from looking at a tablet? Huh. I've never heard that one before.

  • @thecreativeone David I get motion sickness from playing a regular DS Lite for to long xD

  • Fuk that take an ipad to skl someone will steal it

  • In a University or College in terms of text books, notes etc then yes. In Primary or Secondary schools, nope. Unfortunately Apple don't provide the management tools etc. schools need, where as Microsoft does. As much as I would love to implement Macs into our school, it's just not plausible right now.

  • For my college, the ebooks are less then 5% cheaper then the physical version, and can you sell back an ebook?

  • I love Apple.. If i could use all of my textbooks on my ipad.. It would be amazing.. now here i got to spend 300$ on books and shit ill baly use

  • No.

  • I'm right there with you on the textbooks. Being at collage right now with tonnes of folders, textbooks and notes is a pain. I would rather spend some amount of money on an iPad/tablet so I could have everything on there. Much less to carry around.

  • when they had the ipad 2 keynote they were talking about schools like k12

  • I hope so VERY much! I hate carrying around 30lbs. of text books during school. It would make my life soo much easier! PLEASE Apple.

  • I get what you're saying, but I also think that it's not just Apple that is able to do this. I think it's more "Can technology change education forever" .

  • @RS1naru1fan1 Oh, it definitely can. Apple just has a tendency to make a stronger impact than other companies.

  • @thecreativeone You're just a blazing apple fanboy. There's no ignoring that influence .

  • @RS1naru1fan1 I think he knows that, but I think he's specifically talking about Apple's new event, and how what they introduce at it could change education forever.

  • Lol, who would read a textbook on a tablet? No one would be able to do it for over 30 min without eye strain. And it is hard to focus on the subject if its on a tablet rather than the legitimate book. The kindle is "okay" since the screen is a resemblance.

  • @IllxllI I Actually disagree , with all the social medias , vlogs and news articles on the internet we are getting increasingly used to reading alot online. But fair point.

  • Not only cheaper text books, but MORE textbooks on iBooks. Not a single one of the textbooks I use are on there. Not even the newer ones!

  • Nice guns David!!!

  • I think i might switch up to an e-reader for my text books this semester. I am a junior in college and i hope its not too much of a change.

  • At my school every 7th and 8th grader has a Macbook. I love using Apple products but I wish my textbooks were on my laptop so I don't have to carry around all my books.

  • Scroll down for Apple fanboyism! :)

  • I think we could possibly see updated versions of iWork possibly, most likely text books for iOS devices, would love that.

  • No, of course they don't. Major Apple fanboy here.

  • a cheeper line of ipads and mac computers for schools because for one person like me and you its not a lot but for a school it is

  • apple has the power to change everything

  • Hey David, I was pondering on if I should wait to get the new Macbooks or still buy the current Macbook Pros? Advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • @pagslinas If you can hold out until April (when Intel are supposed to release their new generation CPU's, which is the most logical time we'd see a refresh), then wait. Otherwise go for it, it's not like what you buy now will be useless as soon as the new ones come out.

  • more like brainwash some kids to buy theyr stuff in future :)) yeah apple donating things for education rofl

  • @florin22xxl Apple gave thousands of schools Apple ]['s and Macs in the past because they believe that education is extremely important, and their products help children learn. Anything that can make education cheaper or easier for all involved shouldn't be sneered at.

  • Why aren't you at CES?

  • Nice thumbnail, David haha

"I was gonna make a video, but then I got high, Yeeeeeah"

  • Absolutely. Disregarding the brand attached to these digital textbooks, I believe the price alone will draw large numbers of people. College textbooks today are RARELY below $100 and almost always either overpriced by a large sum, or rarely used. Sometimes both! It's a huge waste of money considering you barely get any money back when you return them. I'd completely for digital textbooks.

  • A few freshman at my high school were chosen to borrow iPads for free. We also have "mobile labs" which are like cabinets on wheels that hold Macbooks, and we have iPod Touch labs too. Except it's disappointing because the server that every student and teacher account must use for computer access is very unoptimized when a few classes are connected, much less the whole school on testing days.

  • LOL I nearly puked when I saw my friends Nokia 3220. It looks hideous and the only reason he had to use it was because his xperia play was getting repaired.

  • Only thing Apple will change is their bank balance

  • look at the thumbnail xD

  • Text books are way to old school for 2012. But on a serious note when you carry 7 full size text books around every day along with a macbook pro 15", it really makes the day drag!

  • I think Apple should donate more to schools, these are the next generation! I absolutely think virtual books are the way forward; I'm an English student and i couldn't live without my kindle. Apple should make themselves the mass market by opting to give iPad's and Mac's away to schools. I think they'd be stupid not to.

  • For me it would be a revolution. But I guess this might never come to Germany, as the schools have to use the books the ministry suggests and approves. On top of that our school doesn't allow much electronic devices. For example iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone are not allowed. So.. I will be left out. But boy, I would switch schools any second if that comes true.

  • Both are great

  • My college has 2 or 3 entire rooms full of iMacs and Mac Pros... i think it's safe to say they already are mate.

  • I'm not a visionary genious like Steve Jobs were. I really don't know what i want. xD

  • did u record all these questions in 1 day or seperate days?

  • I think Apple can change education. Because if you think about you can get so MUCH more information from and iPad than a textbook, or a book and it's dramatically lighter. Think about it no body wants to log around heavy books around when there is a better solution (the iPad). Textbooks have a limit to them meaning whats written on the pages is written, but the iPad has the internet and there is no limit to that.

  • short answer, no........

  • So does Microsoft, so does Sony, etc. Most corporations have the power. Whether they choose to do it or not is the big question.
