You have to apply the Windows 7 theme. If all you're getting is the basic theme (no transparent glass effect), your graphics card may not be capable of using it so you either need to upgrade your graphics card or install the latest drivers.
@dp10ism There's more to Ultimate than that, but that is a feature of Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate.
If you'd like to know the differences, a few people have asked in the comments and I've replied to them (I try to reply to as many comments as I can). =)
I'd imagine so. Those with 16GB or higher are probably users who use RAM intensive software like 3D Studio Max, Cinema 4D, Adobe Premier and After Effects or may use a lot of virtual machines.
I only have 8GB at the moment but am looking to upgrade quite soon to 16GB or 24GB with the Christmas deals going on since I usually have Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Soundbooth and Sony Vegas Pro running side-by-side while editing my videos (speeds up productivity to multi-task).
If you want to do stuff like create your own Homegroup for sharing files, printers and streaming media - you can still do that in Professional...I don't think you can create your own Homegroup in Home Premium but I could be wrong.
Thanks for sharing the info. The only two versions I've ever had are Utlimate and Starter - maybe it was Starter I was thinking of that doesn't allow the creation of Homegroups.
Remember the good old days when Microsoft only had like 2 versions of Windows?...they need to go back to that for Windows 8. It's so confusing trying to remember the differences and for beginners - to figure it out. lol
please help me.. im here in philipines.. my os is windows 7 ultimate..32 bit.. i cant download any software for animation picture, like after effects cs4 ad 5 please help me.. i really ned a software wer i can edit images or make animation...,
windows 7ultimate is pretty cool . I have the installation iso on my harddrive.ONLY 2.4GB.
And if anyone is raeding this , if you upgrade from windows Vista or any other version of windows7 below ultimate , you can just choose the upgrade option wich will NOT delete any of your data , it will just upgrade your current operating system to windows 7 ultimate.
Using upgrade is never recommended since there's likely to be driver conflicts or other problems further down the line. It's always better to do a fresh, clean install.
There's another way t install Windows 7 without losing data and that's by using the "Custom (Advanced)" option. It moves all of your data to a folder called Windows.old and preserves the file structure so you can open it and navigate to your user folder then move your data into Windows 7's user profile i.e C:\Users\(your user).
After you copy your data from say C:\Windows.old\Users\(your user)\Documents to C:\Users\(*)\Documents or other folders like C:\Windows.old\Users\(*)\Downloads to C:\Users\(*)\Downloads - you can delete the Windows.old folder to regain space.
You'd have to reinstall software and games, but at least you'd have a fresh system.
It depends on how much RAM you have providing you have a good graphics card/cpu. The minimum RAM you need for Windows 7 32-bit is 1GB but the recommended is 2-3GB and for Windows 7 64-bit you need 2GB Minimum but it's recommended to have 4GB or more.
Doesn't matter what version of Windows 7 is it (Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate) - it's the same. I gamed with 2GB RAM for a while when I was used 32-bit (no performance hit), last Christmas I upgraded to 4GB/64-bit then to 8GB DDR3 earlier this year.
If it's between a GTX 590 and HD6990 - the HD6990 is faster, stays cooler but from reviews seems to be louder than the GTX 590.
Honestly though, it depends on your screen resolution and your budget. If you have a low screen resolution then you could get away with something like the HD6770, HD6790 for AMD or nVidia GTX 550i/560.
I'm waiting for my Phenom II x6, Asus M5A97 Pro and VTX HD6770 1GB to arrive soon which have provided 60fps at 1440x900 (which is my screen resolution) on Ultra.
Battlefield 3 is why I'm making some upgrades to my system. A core2duo just isn't cutting it for HD editing and gaming but was on a tight budget (the HD6670, x6 1090T and motherboard came up to $380 US).
Oops, I meant that I've seen the HD6770 1GB get up to 60fps on Ultra in the Battlefield 3 Beta. The card is capable of 100+fps in games like Resident Evil 5, Far Cry 2, Mass Effect 2 and games like Crysis 30-45fps, GTA IV 90-120fps - V-Sync turned off in all occasions. =)
I don't believe so, or at least it didn't when I used "Anytime Upgrade" to upgrade my netbook from Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Ultimate. it just changes a few settings and downloads a few necessary updates since Ultimate has some features which Professional doesn't.
I forgot to add that yes, the core2duo e7500 is overclocked since the stock speed is 2.93GHz and my Asus EAH(D) 5670 is also overclocked and is on par with a HD5750
Hay GUYS I was to poor to save up for a new CPU,and I said DURP I HAZ IDEA STEALZ MS WIN7. So I went to Pirate Bay! Now I'm officially a fucking thief
Flip3D only works with versions of Windows 7 that has Aero enabled such as Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise. Home Basic and Starter doesn't have Aero.
It depends on the version you have. You can change wallpapers, themes etc in Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise but you can't chance the wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter (which is the reason I upgraded my netbook from Starter to Ultimate).
I prefer using Prt Scr for most things then edit in Photoshop, but if I'm in a hurry then I use the Snipping Tool (like when I discover bugs in themes).
Honestly, i just want to ask what is so "Ultimate" in windows 7 or vista, ur demo is nice, but all you've done is basic. And the aero flip is child's play compare to Mac and Linux honestly.
Ultimate is just Windows with all the bells and whistles albeit some of the things aren't that much of a big deal and you could free alternatives to them. While I don't like OSX, I do have to agree with you on Linux since I'm both a Win7 and Ubuntu user.
Win 7 because I don't like the prospect of using Wine and such, as well as having Windows applications that I'm used to and own.
Ubuntu because it's awesome in many respects.
I like them both equally and currently dual booting both
As far as i know ultimate packs it all in 1 home i believe is for working and such premium is for entertainment ultimate combines those 2 both work and entertainment
You can change the access rights/restrictions through the "Security" tab.
So right clicking on Documents in C:\Users\[user name), going to properties and security while changing the permissions for standard users will affect who can and can't read/write files on an admin account.
Another tip would be to hide any files that you don't want anyone with a standard account to see as well as adjust the UAC for that user.
I do agree that does suck that standard user can access an admin's files.
If you are the standard user and your rents or some one is the admin...well let's just say there's ways to access an admin account that has a password. *eyes shift*
@LordReserei01 I did that thing with security tab, he can't acces anymore this folder C:/users , but still he can go to start menu type in search anything he wants and acces it ! argghh -.-'
Is there any way to turn off that search option ? :/
Home Premium doesn't have multiple languagfe support, BitLocker, Windows XP Mode and other things but there's other ways of getting similar or better things
- VirtualBox is a great, free way to get an XP mode that works with and without
CPU's that have virtualization capabilities.
- TrueCrypt is a free, open source way to encrypt your hard drives and usb devices securely and with a higher degree than BitLocker
For the average everyday user, Home Premium is perfectly fine.
If you're using Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate.
- Right click on your desktop
- Click on "Gadgets"
You can download other gadgets from the Windows Live library or go to deviantart[dot[com. That sites a huge and awesome resource for themes, wallpapers, cursors and of course...art in every shape and form. =)
Yeah, there is that from time to time but it's still a good resource....I often get my Photoshop brushes and such from there as well as stock photos and others I listed before like themes etc. =)
I made this with Camtasia and Sony Vegas Pro 9.0. Admittedly it's sped up a little, the actual boot up and loading time can be seen in other videos which I used VirtualBox for some tutorials.
It would probably would boot in the time shown in this video if I had a SDD. XD
I personally dislike OSX (hate's a strong word), but each man to his own I guess...I'm not a Windows fanboy or anything by any means (use other OSs) and accept everyone has their own taste with regards to operating system. =)
Ubuntu is an awesome OS in it's own right (I use Ubuntu Ultimate Edition from time to time, dual booting) but I just prefer Windows personally because it's what I'm more familiar with and have a lot of Windows applications or games that just don't work well enough for me in Wine.
If people ask me about Ubuntu, I always suggest trying it out (hell it's free), if not on a separate partion, at least in a VM like VirtualBox. =)
(I believing in keeping an open mind with OS's and in general)
If you're using Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate...press the WinKey (Start button) on your keyboard and use tab to flip through or go to my channel and look under "Windows and Software" playlist....there I have a tutorial on how to make a shortcut for it like in Vista which you can pin to your taskbar. =)
Hold down on the keyboard "Start" (or the Windows logo) and use the Tab key to flip through windows. It's only available on editions which have Aero though (Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate).
I heard that THEre's a PIRATE on the BAY who says you can get it free without a fee. Other than that I highly recommend trying to buy it one way or another if you can afford it. =)
- Right click on your taskbar and go to "Properties"
- Under "Taskbar location on screen", from the drop down menu next to it, switch it to "top"
- Click "Apply" and "Okay"
Transparency is the Aero/glass effect that is apparent in every aspect of Windows 7 Home Premium - Ultimate from the borders of the windows to the see-through glass effect on the taskbar.
i was about to install win 7 just to try somthing new.. but i changed my mind.. comeing from my linux OS this locks boreing ass hell.. sorry i dont want to ofend anyone but thats just my opinion ..i liked the song btw:D
What version of photoshop is that ? CS ?
DonCocaneCIA 1 week ago
Considering it was 2009 when I made this vdeo - most likely CS4. Although I switched to CS5 on it's release and I'm currently using CS5.1.
I also have Photoshop and Sony Vegas Pro tutorials up if you're interested.

Okay, so yeah - you may need to re-install your video card drivers or restart the desktop window manager servers by;
- pressing the Win+R on the keyboard
- type "services.msc" without quotes
- scroll down until you see "desktop window manager" then right click and "stop", right click again and click "start"
This is provided that you have the theme selected in "Personalize".

"Ultimate doesn't have multiple language support - but who needs that really?"
Which version of 7 has this? I remember reading that one of them does, but I can't remember the name.
TheyCrawlOnWalls 3 months ago
Sorry, I made a typo. It's Home Premium that doesn't have multiple language support - Ultimate does have it.
LordReserei01 3 months ago
whats the difference between windows home premium and windows ultimate premium? :O i don't get it
amvsmeps 3 months ago
For most people, Home Premium is all you need.
- Ultimate has BitLocker but you can get a better alternative called TrueCrypt for keeping data secure
- Ultimate doesn't have multiple language support - but who needs that really?
- Ultimate has Windows XP Mode, but if you have a copy of Windows XP - you can use VirtualBox which has better compatibility and performance.
So it's not completely necessary to go to Ultimate, unless you just want the name - because Ultimate sounds cool. lol

Whats the differences between this and windows 7 home premium? :/
sasukeblaze 1 year ago
Home Premium doesn't have multiple languagfe support, BitLocker, Windows XP Mode and other things but there's other ways of getting similar or better things
- VirtualBox is a great, free way to get an XP mode that works with and without
CPU's that have virtualization capabilities.
- TrueCrypt is a free, open source way to encrypt your hard drives and usb devices securely and with a higher degree than BitLocker
For the average everyday user, Home Premium is perfectly fine.

hey how did u get the things on ur desktop on the right side?
tornadoex1 1 year ago
If you're using Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate.
- Right click on your desktop
- Click on "Gadgets"
You can download other gadgets from the Windows Live library or go to deviantart[dot[com. That sites a huge and awesome resource for themes, wallpapers, cursors and of course...art in every shape and form. =)

deviant art? i find it's just people posting webcam photos and random crap lol
cozmo195productions 1 year ago
Yeah, there is that from time to time but it's still a good resource....I often get my Photoshop brushes and such from there as well as stock photos and others I listed before like themes etc. =)

I hate Windows!!!
But nice video, made with iMovie?
Look at speed how long windows needs to load! ;)
Jo24Park 1 year ago
I made this with Camtasia and Sony Vegas Pro 9.0. Admittedly it's sped up a little, the actual boot up and loading time can be seen in other videos which I used VirtualBox for some tutorials.
It would probably would boot in the time shown in this video if I had a SDD. XD
I personally dislike OSX (hate's a strong word), but each man to his own I guess...I'm not a Windows fanboy or anything by any means (use other OSs) and accept everyone has their own taste with regards to operating system. =)
LordReserei01 1 year ago
Software, system specs etc are always in the video description as well as channel. In recent times, I've included them in the credits. =)

Hey nice vid mean! what's the name of the song?
zolkaika 1 year ago
LOL why use windows when you got ubuntu linux??
callum0913 1 year ago
Ubuntu is an awesome OS in it's own right (I use Ubuntu Ultimate Edition from time to time, dual booting) but I just prefer Windows personally because it's what I'm more familiar with and have a lot of Windows applications or games that just don't work well enough for me in Wine.
If people ask me about Ubuntu, I always suggest trying it out (hell it's free), if not on a separate partion, at least in a VM like VirtualBox. =)
(I believing in keeping an open mind with OS's and in general)

tisteke 1 year ago
If you're using Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate...press the WinKey (Start button) on your keyboard and use tab to flip through or go to my channel and look under "Windows and Software" playlist....there I have a tutorial on how to make a shortcut for it like in Vista which you can pin to your taskbar. =)

@LordReserei01 Thanks, lol, I was wondering how to do that! Thumb up for your post! lol

CROpanzer 1 year ago
Hold down on the keyboard "Start" (or the Windows logo) and use the Tab key to flip through windows. It's only available on editions which have Aero though (Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate).

ronaldo1642 1 year ago
To cut the long story short, it's a name I used to use as a Star Wars role-playing character before joining YouTube and decided to stick with it.

i have this, how do i get the toolbar to the top etc. and whats transparency? (on windows 7 ultimate)
AkitaMarine 1 year ago
- Right click on your taskbar and go to "Properties"
- Under "Taskbar location on screen", from the drop down menu next to it, switch it to "top"
- Click "Apply" and "Okay"
Transparency is the Aero/glass effect that is apparent in every aspect of Windows 7 Home Premium - Ultimate from the borders of the windows to the see-through glass effect on the taskbar.
Hope that helps. =)
