In an interview Curt said that they did have issues with who sang what song and who's voice sounded the best on what song. :) But you know what? I think that if Roland was to sing this song by himself it wouldn't sound the same as it does when Curt sings it. And you can tell when Curt is singing this song he gets a sense of euphoria. :)
@ilikehairbands Me, too. They were great in the '80s and they still are. Tears for Fears is one of the best bands since the Beatles, the Jackson 5, the Bee Gees, Genesis, and other rock bands from different decades.
What a really great hit this was....! A real musical masterpiece....Thank you Tears for Fears! Their voices and playing just like a chiming ring in a bell....Wow.
I will forever remember this song as the one that carried me thru my first Mardi Gras, in New Orleans - 1986... I danced my ass off.. fell in Love... had the best time...!!!
I agree! Curt Smith is SO cute when he's having fun! You can just see he enjoys this unlike everything else :D He was very sexy in the 80's, I must say.
@coralbay00 Curt's voice is very unique, and the sad irony is, if someone with a voice like that showed up to audition for American Idol, he'd get slammed. The music industry doesn't discover really good bands like this anymore.
@duman8 I agree as well. Even for someone my young age, I agree that nowadays the new talents coming into the spotlight don't have strong vocals like the ones from back in the 80s and 70s. Even 90s music was better than the 2000s music. Nowadays the new talents sound weak and the voices don't sound as mature.
i'm not dissing the song by the way..... the song is sarcastically raising awareness of those who want to rule the world... who could honestly believe it's good to rule the world-- no one, hence them being sarcastic about how everyone wants to rule the world... just thought id add that, since after reading my comment, i realized it could be interpreted as a stab at the song, its not.
Sick performance. Curt really got the crowd going on that one. I especially loved it when he hit the cymbals. A great song by a great band. Wish there was still this quality today.
Curt was having so much fun in this vid, it's just too cute. It did seem that he was getting the crowd going. Gosh this takes me back the the concerts the past summer. And yes they had just as fun as now as they did then. It was truly awesome to see that. Well, at least the concet I went to...just sayin'
I think it's confusing because, at the beginning of another clip from the documentary, there's a guy in the street *saying* they're in Germany, and certainly the "behind-the-scenes" footage intercut with that performance (I want to say it's 'The Working Hour') looks to be in Europe; but, unless the Old Lady of Shuter St. has an identical twin in Germany, right down to the godforsaken pillars, the performance space is Massey all the way.
They're like a rite-of-passage. I don't think you can call yourself a true music fan in Toronto until you've had to pole-dance your way through a show at Massey.
Saw them live at Cobo Hall in Detroit in 1985 as a High School Sr. A New Wave group called The Adventurers opened for them. Out of all of the concerts I saw in the 80's, Tears For Fears and Mr.Mister were the best in that era for reproducing their studio sound live.
Golly! I wish I was old enough to go and see them by myself at the time that this was filmed. But I was only 9 so I would have had to go with either my mother or my father so that wouldn't have been too cool for me to be seen at a T.F.F. concert with one of my parents.

Notice that in this clip Curt has a nominal number of ass shots.
I only counted 4 shots of Roland's ass vs the 6 ass shots that Curt got. Not that I really have anything to complain about Curt's ass but still.

This is an "exceptional" live performance. Curt r-e-a-l-l-y gets "into it" throughout the whole song. Check out his eyebrows at 3:25-3:27. Too cute.
Roland is so intense on his guitar at 3:53-3:57. Go Roland!
They appear to be so "happy" in this clip doing their "gigging". I really enjoyed watching this.
But, leave it to Roland to throw his towel at the camera at the end of the performance (backstage)? Too funny.
TanzaniteDiamonds 3 years ago 5
I guess Roland wasn't in the mood to be filmed at the end of this clip.
