@hotelhi in NAM they can walk as far as they need. i had "passenger only" farriers and they walked 30 tiles to it and 30 tiles again to get to their work. so they will walk... FAR if they need to but it sure as hell adds up to the commute time if they need to walk for hours each day
@timonix2 Precisely. I only allow 8 tiles to make sure commute time is the least possible. Also, I like to concentrate most of my high density commercials (towers and skyscapers) in one area and put toll booths on roads leading to the area. You can generate thousands of dollars from tolls and thousands of dollars from public transports... :)
@hotelhi When i build big (which is rare because i like the small villages more XD) i usually use a grid like system which makes each house withing 1-9 tiles away from a subway system (4tiles diagonally) at most. And those "Units" or blocks are connected by highway and monorail to the other blocks. It does not en-corporate tollbooths very well due to the high compact of the city. I do have it on the highways to the factory's if I use them. But normally i just build more blocks with HT instead.
@timonix2 Same here with the blocks. I build them 6x8. I would put bus stations and subway stations next to each other on one corner. With toll booths to a CBD, you can actually lower all taxes... (Although I do not like lowering the Dirty or Manufactoring Industries...
Good basics tutorial. Though, I usually prefer to put bus depots near my mass-transit stations so that people will be more inclined to get there. That way, you can keep your mass-transit networks cheap, small and well-used while taking advantage of your existing road system to "feed" the mass-transit. I have one city in which residential, commercial and industrial areas are all separated from each other and only connected with mass transit (passenger ferries and elevated rail, in this case.)
Anyone else realize that he forgot to connect 1 subway station?

maybe add water to your town?

I would put the subways and bus stations about 8 tiles apart. Why? Citizens/pedestrians only walk 8 tiles.

@hotelhi Citizens/pedestrians only walk 8 tiles.
Thanks, I did not know that. I have a good system in my city using monerails
