@wald94000 That seems like a good call. Ranked by on-the-job fatalities per 100 000 workers being a fireman is less dangerous than being a fisherman, logging worker, aircraft pilot, structural steel worker, garbage man, farmer/rancher, roofer, electrician, driver/route sales/truck driver and taxi driver/chaffeur.
The deaths per 100 000 firefighters in the US are comparable to deaths per 100 000 from vehicle accidents. I.e. commuting to work is the same level of danger as being a fireman.
@soylentgreenb insurrance and banks considers this job as dangerous, you can't get a loan easily when you are firefighter in France.
That's why governement recognize some jobs as dangerous and help people to get such things. Firefighter is currently recognized as dangerous only by people who make us pay more, and their interest shouldn't be defended until firefighter is a dangerous job.
Just become one, loose some friends or your own life and you will see that this job is dangerous
@wald94000 I'm not very susceptible to appeals to emotion/subjective arguments. Deaths per 100 000 workers per year tells most of the story to me; by that metric being a firefighter isn't a terribly dangerous jobs; about a factor 10 less dangerous than being a fisherman and about as dangerous as car ownership.
It sounds like your issue is unfair treatment by the insurance companies; which may well be the case.
Oh the irony!
