@sjnz90 why not? i play for nine years and im fourteen :) its not allways so easy like most of peoples say. primaliry fast :) (im talking about more complicated stuffs then basic flute songs). for example most of baroque compositions are quite complicated and heavy on technique like from Loeillet, Bach,Handel, Vivaldi ... :) when you want to play on some level you must practise like with anyone else instrument :D and really sorry for my English :)

@janithw how is what she is teaching "bad"? at the school's i have been to all recorders are run through the dish washer on sanitize to ensure that they are clean. she also shower the proper holing technique and posture. you dont have to use the left hand on top. use your dominant hand. i used my right hand on the top and still play fine.

pls..help me..i think the one who taught me how to play the recorder didn't taught me the right way..he said that the first 3 holes(from the mouthpiece) should be covered by the 2nd,3rd and 4th finger(from thumb)of my right hand, and the last 4 holes should be covered by the 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th finger of my left hand...

now my question is..is it okay to play it that way? I'm having a hard time adjusting, because I'm already used to play the recorder in that manner..pls I'm so confused..........

For Pete275: That "bottom hole" is, on any but the very cheapest recorder, actually two holes. In order to play a low c# on a soprano (or f# on an alto) you need to cover only one of them. With the right hand on the bottom, this is not problem. But if your left hand is down there, the hole that's supposed to be open is the one next to your palm, and to open it without its neighbor is awkward and unreliable.

why is it so important to have the left hand on top? modern recorders are always 3 pieces, if you play with the right hand on top you can rotate the lower piece so that the hole goes to the left, and you can play perfectly well
