  • Simply put... I start "tweeking" out if I miss more than a day of NOT riding!

  • and this is why I left the east coast to come back to the PNW. Nothing but highway/freeway riding in that video!

  • Comment removed

  • good stuff here!!! How is the stock seat for extended riding?

  • Would the KLR 250 be ok to start on as a begginer bike?

  • @swisscosmo the 250 is an awesome bike. I almost bought one myself as an 'around town grocery getter.' I wouldn't expect to take it out on the freeway or on long distances, but around town or short distance commuting it would be a blast.

  • can it cruise at 140 km/h fine? or will that keep the RPMs to high?

  • i have that helmet! it's an xd3!!

  • Great video guys...love the modulating brake light.

  • nice music, and bikes

  • @KLRPilot, I understand that our women think differently the we do. It is now end of November and I still ride my KLR650 with joy. I must admit, that I don't have the proper winter cloth but I know where my tub is at night. I love to use her even in the rain. Driving is now much different then in dry summer conditions but this will help to throw her around and use her with great skills for the next summer. Have fun folks. Andy

  • 9 people don't understand why we ride klr's

  • I have just bought a KLR650 (Model 2011) in Duncan, Vancouver Island Canada. I am 6ft (1.80m) tall and weigh, well a bit too much. I have upgraded my Bike with side-fall protection, Aluminum engine protection, additional LED Lights, LED Brake Light, 1 Top Case and 2 side Cases. I am very happy with my KLR. She is very agile and I can throw her around corners or make a very quick move on the road if there are objects on the road. She is the best for the buck and does not fail to please me.

  • @whileysea Awesome area to have a KLR, Vancouver. I've passed through there several times on business and always wanted to tour it on a bike. On the weight issue . . . I, too, have weighed a bit too much. I put myself on a diet and exercise plan. My wife was real happy until I told her, "yea, every pound I lose is another pound of gear I can haul on the KLR." She wasn't to amused with that comment, but like I said, there reasons why you ride a KLR, and some people just don't understand.

  • How does the KLR perform in faulty weather like snow & icy conditions???

  • @DreadheadAngel11 Don't worry about the bike, she will go in any weather you can handle. I ride year round, rain or snow, day or night. Ice is a different story, I wouldn't intentionally venture out in icing conditions, but if you get caught (I have a few times) I slow waaaay down and ride on the gravel on the side of the road as much as possible. When you ride a bike year-round, you kinda become an amateur weather man and learn to carry proper gear for the morning and afternoon commute.

  • Does anybody know what kind of lights those are?

  • Just curious, i'm looking at lights for the klr I will be purchasing next summer, what lights did your brother have on there? -Thanks!

  • @TheTraxxasfreak we have LED lights from KLR.COM. But you can search around to find the type you like. Just search on KLR LED tail lights.

  • im 5'10 aussie 17 and loving my 04 klr ive put around 4000k/m dunno in mile in the last yea great bikes for young blokes to learn on

  • @KLRPilot Im looking for a bike, right now im 13 but im just preparing for the future. I am supposed to reach between 6'5-6'10 (cuz of my genes) would this be a good bike for me?

  • I kick myself in the ass everyday for selling mine....

  • i was in your shoes ,the klr 2011 is the first brand new bike i ever bought.i must say best choice i ever made.i rode a good few bikes and owned a lot of used crap. this one is way up there on the awesome list.

  • the klr is an amazing bike in all areas even if your scared of the size and weight theres no worrys it is one of the easziest driving bikes i was ever on, my girlfriends drz 400sm scares me more then my klr 650 .its a gentle giant that will get you through anything wile having lots of fun.it is the best pick for a first bike its cheap ,highly capable in any situation and will last for ever. in my honest opinion for what you pay for a klr and what a klr can do its the best bike ever made.

  • left lane bandit!!!!

  • I'm contemplating getting a KLR 650 as my first bike, but I have near zero experience riding would you recommend it?

  • @3azel The KLR 650 is a great first bike. Not too expensive, easy to work on and very forgiving of 'rookie' mistakes. As long as you're not intimidated by it height you should have no problem riding and enjoying the bike.

  • @KLRPilot

  • @KLRPilot I've heard it feels topheavy. Do you have the same experiences?

  • @HedgehogOutdoors maybe slightly top heavy with a full tank of gas. Gas weighs right around 6lbs/gallon, so that's around 35-40 pounds of weight up there, add a tank bag with 5-10lbs in it an you will notice it at low speeds, i.e. navigating a parking lot, or pushing it around in your garage. If your trip will involve off-road or trail riding, I would highly recommend not going out with a full tank, unless of course you'll be in an area without adequate fuel stops. I always track my mpg.

  • @KLRPilot Speaking of that, what do you get for mileage?

  • @3azel yes, its been my first bike for the past three + years and has treated me well. Zero problems.

  • @3azel its a great last bike too. klr for life!!

  • @tommyogtigern Good Call!

  • I´m short as well 1.67m and when I saw a KLR 650 for the first time, I was impressed at the size of it, I could hardly touch the ground. Anyway, I ended up buying one (same colour than yours) and I think I made the best decision, the bike has been great and part of my best adventure experiences. I had to leave her in South America, I´m missing her so much.

  • Hi I am from central america and the klr is a very popular bike, I have one my self, and I wanted to ask you where did you or your brother got you flashin lead tail light thas looks so nice in the video when the klr is being parked in the garage.

  • Great video I just bought a 2011 and wish I was on the ride with you be safe and enjoy.

  • Love those metal panniers. They look awesome.

  • do you ever wish you were lower to the ground?

  • I live in Baltimore too i am thinking of buying a klr to ride it the city.

  • I ride my 2000 KLR everyday, rain or shine. Its like a tiny SUV. It doesn't do anything especially well, except in being able to DO everything! From camping to 80mph on the slab in comfort. All for $2100 bucks! You can't do that on a Harley or a Beemer. Besides, with my KLR roundels, everyone thinks it a beemer anyway. Haa haa. My bike costs what a beemer costs for a big service. I can service my bike myself and it doesn't matter if it tops over. KLRs are the best. be it the 650 or the 250.

  • Hey KLR riders. Nice video and def nice bikes I ride a 1989 KLR 250 was my second bike back in 96 and never geting rid of it. and yea my bike is def the under dog here hard to ceep up with my familys new fuel injected 250s. but it still rides like a cadilac on the trails.

  • Hay at 4:04 yall are in Glouster. I am actually looking to buy a klr 650 as first road bike...Great videos.

  • hahaha I love that

  • I notice he knows how wide the boxes are!! That looked close to me. I have 60k miles on mine, don't see getting rid of it anytime soon. 02 KLR

  • @klrbiker That was my brother threading the needle between the parked cars, he's a darn good rider, he's 43, I'm 45 and we've been riding since we were 8 or 9 nine years old. I chased him down an overgrown gravel fire road in the Shenandoah; at 70mph I backed off but he kept going like a bat outta hell just floating across that loose gravel and weeds like a jet ski. I'm not sure the kid is right in the head. That's his second KLR, first one was a '96, he kicks himself for getting rid of it.

  • Hello KLR-riders, I think you are all from the US, isn't it? I am from good old Germany and call a old KLR650A1 my own. I will NEVER give her away. It seems, that the KLR650 is very popular in US, even when there are lots of controverse discussions. In Germany the KLR was always an underdog and nowadays she's even exotic....to much BMWs and all this soft enduros.....so be lucky in US, in Germany we can not buy KLR650 anymore....

  • @MyRadegast Trust me, the KLR is an under dog here also, at least among the folks who have never ridden one. There alot of guys around here in south east Virginia that ride the big BMW 1200GSA, but I don't think they would ever consider taking it down a gravel road let alone an actual fire trail. Yea, I know, alot of people do take their GSAs off-road, but they have deeper pockets than I do. The KLR is such a fine bike, inexpensive to own and work on that I'll never get rid of mine either

  • @KLRPilot : I fully agreed with you. No motorbike can give so much fun with this low budget.

I have to pay 20 Euro insurance per year. That's nothing in Germany. The only trouble I have is that I am a pretty small guy, only 1,72m height... so the KLR is hard "to climb" for me. But when I took seat on it, it's wonderful!

  • I have a friend that rode exactly the same KLR from Toronto to Alaska and back. About 20 000 km by himself. He is 62.

  • What is the make of your friends hard bags?

  • @NotAnotherClinton Happy Trails Teton model

  • @KLRPilot thanks. I am so close to pulling the trigger on one of these bikes. There is a closeout on the 09's and I was quoted 5400 out the door... Hard to pass up considering it is half the price of a gs.

  • The other night I had to ride mine through a serious down pour. She sputtered and sputtered for the last half mile but I said serious prayers the whole way to The Man Upstairs and we were able to make it.:-)

  • @guyNbluejeans I understand, I have had that happen leaving VIR. It felt like a mini hurricane, 1 hr from hotel and it started missing! "Come on girl keep running!!!" It happened in just stop & go traffic, have had no problem once under way.

  • @klrbiker I have to take her in soon for the 12,000 mile valve check and general maintenance work. I will ask the mechanic if there's anything that can be done to make her not skip a beat even when the rain's coming down in heavy hurricane sheets the way it had. (The only thing I can think of is to wrap some electrical tape around the spark-plug case.)

Glad yours didn't die on you either.:-)

  • That's why I ride a KLR.. Owned many, this is my favorite! Thanks bro!

  • i watched this video before i bought my '09 KLR, and now i'm watching again... at that time, i could not wait to get my hands on it... i love the feeling of it...

  • Nice video thanks! I have an '09 KLR and love it. Great dependable bike!

  • KLR's are good bikes, they'll get you where you need to go.

  • Nice low-speed handling skills as he pulled into the driveway and garage. Too many folks fixate on the flashy high speed stuff.

KLRs are neat bikes and plenty of them on the used market. I bought a DR650 but think I would be happy on a KLR, too.

  • NAMTRIP, you're probably a nice guy but Im calling bullshit. Ive not read anything like that about the KLR's Sure some of them leak/burn oil but nothing on the scale your're talking about. I have researched these bikes and talked to several owners and vow to buy one soon so that my Triumph don't feel so lonely in the garage.

  • @R1alpha Dude,I dont like to talk myself up,but Ive got more time riding in the rain than you got riding period,I already bought a KLR anyway,I did see a lot of stuff about KLRs using a lot of oil. What, you think I made it up??

  • I still don't know why you guys ride a KLR

  • @JefferyCav and you never will. sorry.

  • @KLRPilot Don't be sorry bud. I am sorry you guys own klrs

  • @JefferyCav i love my klr 650

  • @cockmaster024 thats too bad

  • @cockmaster024 yeah nothing but my ktm 690 bitch!

  • @KLRPilot I Love my KLR

  • o8 klr owner here never had a oil burnin issue. purchased mine in july 08,manufactured in may 08. Lucky to get mine they were sold out before you could make a call. p.s i love my klr and i beat the shit out of it. Ride and have fun and stay safe no matter what you ride(:

  • i hate the intro

  • Sure, some have had oil consumption issues. It's too tall. It's too heavy. But I love my 2001. Bought 3 years ago for $1700 and still worth more than that. I almost bought a VStrom but couldn't bear the thought of it falling over. Best bike I have ever had.

  • awesome bike

  • Namtrip, You are attempting to make it sound as if all or most 08's have the problem when actually many do not have this issue. It is a well known and documented issue, but it is not creating problems for everyone and also it is quite simple to fix with a top end refresh. Many men (and some women) would think nothing of a simple rebuild if/when required. The great thing about a KLR engine is that it is as technologically advanced as a 1965 Lawnmower.

  • Why?,I guess your dads the CEO of EXXON,and you can have all the oil you want for free!! Or,you live in Saudi Arabia, and have an oil well in your backyard??Ive seen reports of new KLRs using 1 qt per 100 miles,I swear Im not lying,go to any KLR site, the owners are furious!!!I almost bought one.

  • @NAMTRIP Somebody call the waaaambulance .. stop your hating on the KLR man. I have an 08 with 8000 miles on it .. it burns very little oil. Yes, they had an issue with the 08 but Kawasaki fixed anybody with the problem.

  • @NAMTRIP yeah yeah yeah, post the same thing on every KLR video, nice job! You only have second-hand info from internet forums to argue with while we are out riding and ENJOYING OUR KLRs. Anyone who buys a bike that burns a qt of oil every 100 miles and doesn't go back to the dealer to get it fixed is a moron.

  • @vtprisonco Its not BS,I did see everything I said on owners who bought bikes using oil,But I wanted to try one so I got it anyway,a few complaints didnt scare me off.

  • i would never drive a klr, maybe ride one though :D

  • lovely.

    thanks for posting :)

  • Can you show a detail pic of how you fix the spotlight at the crash bar...looks nice

  • What the hell is that radio chatter at 3:00. So annoying lol

Great vid! Let me know if you're in the washington area!

  • Yeah I got rained on saturday while riding my KLR too. Pretty much the same reason...only it was Maryland crabs and beer.

  • Yep, those were some good brawts and cold beer; well worth the ride.
