  • What a Bonnie English Rose ! Excellent !

  • @chatham6 Katherine is Welsh. Saw her in concert last night in Edinburgh, fab night :)

  • @TheRockape1

Anyway, the song is a British national pride anthom and that includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island.

We're all the same flag, you may have to come to terms with that at some point.

  • @TheRockape1

Actually for much of the glory days of the Empire (1815 - 1945 ish) many of the high offices were held by Scottish and to a lesser extent Welsh nationals.

Infact quite a lot of the British army officers at the time were a mixture of both Scottish and English.

In India, Scottish, Welsh and even Irish (despite the religous conflicts) were in charge of large areas under the East India Company.

In Terms of science, almost all industrial engineering came from Scotland.

  • peng

  • just like you katherine, BEAUTIFUL.XX

  • It would be nice if all countries who attend the Olympics in2012, made a vow to their own countries! Great music from an English (whoops!) British composer, Gustav Holst.( From Cheltenham!)

  • I hope one day I will also be a citizen of this country.

  • beutiful

  • @dragon281067 Well seeing as we are all animals then your only function would to be on a plate. Personally I think you would go great with chips and a sour lemon. No vegetables because by the looks of it there ain't no good in you.

  • @TheRockape1 i thought you'd be keen to keep the English language alive and not have it eroded away with l8r, lol, FUNEX, etc. It wasn't an insult. It was advice.

  • @TheRockape1 i can't believe you put 'LMFAO'.... that is the true sign of a tech geek. My brain activity, sleeping patterns and social life are of no consequence. you are digging for an angle which is understandable. i do feel a little disappointed with myself for sending a cheap shot your way.

  • @TheRockape1 i like the way you add the porn bit.... i have bouts of insomnia... an over active brain (i refrain from making a jibe here)... and youtube is the king of procrastination.

PS i'm a fan of the muppets.

  • @TheRockape1 i have a happy life fully of hobbies... it just so happens that one of my hobbies involves sourcing parts from the US on ebay... which provides me with the opportunity to drop by and give you your daily reality check. I don't want to belittle you. Why should i take all the credit for something you do so well for yourself?

  • I'm surprised nobody's talking about Gustav Holst.

  • to any doubters,be aware of one certainty...the spirit lives on ...undiluted and deep.

  • Why dont we all drop the racist banter, and remember.Divided our nation will grow forever weaker, crumble and die. This must not be allowed to happen.

  • @TheRockape1

They vow to their queen, who is coincidentally our queen.

The original poem was written to remember, raise awareness of and thank the UK's (and Commonwealth's) dead and servicemen during the [ongoing] first world war by our ambassador to the US, trying to raise support over there.

At no point has it ever had any reference to England, let alone England over others. It is entirely about, as mentioned by another poster above, kith and kin and shared hopes.

  • As was common in the 1800s, a hymn would be made from a snippet of classical music. In this case the "hook" comes from Holst's "Jupiter".

  • May God bless the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, her territories and her glorious common wealth.

  • @TheRockape1 Such blind ignorance! The Scots the Welsh the English & the Irish are kith & kin insulting any of them & you insult yourself.

  • @vertis43ad Hi, I like you have very stong feelings, but i am trying to stop taking the pills, and keep my pulse rate down.Very difficult on a site full of racists.

    All the best.

  • @vertis43ad Has he made any personal insults to you yet? or unnecessarily stated that he is in the service and than used that fact to justify an unrelated point?

  • @ATeamVanUK No mention of a service record so far. However I cannot be English if I have a pro British view? Unfortunately there are inhabitants of these islands who believe they have been badly treated by the union I ask them to remember the old adage "If we do not hang together, we will surely hang separately" .Evidenced by & without prejudice as to who caused the current financial crisis. Look at the super austerity measures now being inflicted on the "Independent" Republic of Ireland.

  • @vertis43ad The little boy you are arguing with is clearly a wind up merchant with no idea of the history of either the UK or the Royal family. I find that it's best to ignore these ignorant fools. All he is doing is making a complete twit of himself. :)

  • Katherine Jenkins is an EXTREMELY OUTSTANDING singer! She's also very gorgeous looking :) <3 xxxx

  • Dad: Oooo! Katherine Jenkins! *Puts glasses on*

  • bog eyed straight nosed weird chinned welsh whore

  • stop the crap.. just enjoy..

  • i wanna bang her so hard

  • @beidlgsicht How..... vulgar. Are you actually proud to put such things on a global medium?

  • @beidlgsicht very patriotic

  • Reading the comments bellow appalls me. Why shouldn't Muslims be welcome in the UK? They are just as good as Christians. Most Muslims in this planet are not like the Taliban people. Most Muslims are good people like Christians. Plus may I just point out that NOT EVERY ASAIN COLOURED PERSON IN THE UK IS A MUSLIM!

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone No they are NOT! They deny the total divinity of our Loird and Mastr - JESUS CHRIST - one of part of the TRINITY. That makes them pagans and we do not want them here!

"No man cometh to the Father but by Me". Jesus Christ the ONEand ONLY WORLD WITHOUT END

  • May I just point out people that NOT EVERY ASIAN COLOURED PERSON IN THE UK IS A MUSLIM!

  • @winstonchurchill95 I would love to see Britain full of Muslims and Christians. Most Muslims are law abiding people as well and their religion is good it's just the Taliban who have spoiled everything. What the Taliban practise is not Islam. It's a twisted thing that's nothing like Islam. Islam is a nice religion and yes it may not be perfect but neither is Christianity or any other modern religion for that matter. Muslims have as much right to be in the UK as Christians.

    Coming from an atheist.

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone You endorse a religion where being gay is a crime and women are second class citizens, I don't believe your an atheist for one minuet.

  • @hetrodoxly What? That's what the taliban believe not the regular Muslim you come across. In fact it says in the Quo ran (the Islam holy book) that 'men and women are equal but not identical'. Plus I've met gay Muslims in my time. I may not believe what the Muslims believe but I do like some of the rules they live by.

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone To be a Muslim you have to live your life as the Quran commands, are you kaffer? what are the rules they live by that you like?

  • @hetrodoxly Muslim: A person who follows the religion of Islam.

You DO have to follow some of what what the Qua ran and what the average Muslim believes to call yourself a Muslim like you have to follow some of what the bible and the average Christian believes to be able to call yourself a Christian but you don't have to follow all of it. You can choose which parts to believe in. And I just pointed out one of their rules that I like 'Men and women are EQUAL but not IDENTICAL'.

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone Plus I don't like Muslims because of what they believe but because the average Muslim is really nice. I haven't met one Muslim in the UK that has been homophobic, sexist, or racist in any way.

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone And what the hell do you mean by 'kaffer'?

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone You have obviously had your head up your ass all of your life...muslims = we can say what we like about other peoples religion but try and say something about ours and we will kill you

a religion that try to pull over non muslims eyes that they are peacefull...hell no the most hated 2 faced religion in the World.....

  • simply beautiful. Why doesn't she do a duet with Gianluca Paganelli? The gorgeous Italian tenor with the lovely welsh mezzo would be beautiful

  • That seemed like a bit of a struggle for her

  • shes fit

  • look at 'CAFT' website unless she's blind and deaf i think any fool would have recognised what message the protesters were making, if one person changes their mind, thats positive.yes we all have a physical heart in our chests but some have no heart when they turn their back on cruelty just to get even more cash, if its stupid to highlight where someone turns their back on animals suffering unbearable cruelty and torture for greed and shallow vanity CONSIDER ME THE MOST STUPID PERSON EVER

  • @eastlondongeeezeeer did she really know? or is that just your biased opinion? Also, yeah, you're really going to change anyones views of her because of a youtube comment and Oh look yet another opinion with "Leona Lewis is a real star", yes I'll agree, Leona Lewis has a heart...but then again so does every other living person. Is there one JUST ONE single provable fact in your annoying little rant that really nobody really cares about, I just had to comment though at your stupidity

  • 28 people are traitors to their own country

  • There are no words good enough to praise the voice of this wonderful lady, Katherine Jenkins. Absolutely pitch perfect.

Muriel xxx Thanks for posting desmith1956.

  • Shes soo gorgeous, but the thing I find most attractive about Katherine, is her standards, shes very respectable, like a real "lady." And I dont mean sum posh toff, I just mean that her qualities r very proper, and that seems very rare today in men and women, but mostly women. Everything is in ur face today, sex, and the attitudes, I like the old ways wen the woman was dignified. Yes women r more liberated today and thats gud, but its tipped too far the other way now.

  • God save our islands !

  • I seriously think people should find out about the very great Gustav Holst, his beliefs, his politics and his deep commitment to the universal human spirit before they wade in with their petty nationalistic tripe. Nationalism is the measles of humankind, an infantile disease, to quote Einstein. Just grow up and appreciate great music. I like Katherine Jenkins too. She has a voice, which counts for something these days.

  • @hardyfh1 See I think nationalism can be alright as long as it isn`t over the top. What I mean is I think it is good to be proud that your group fo people is different in some way than another group and to have different values. It is a bad thing when it leads to violence, but I think it is good to have a heritage and an identity. Fact is of course the world would be perfect if everyone was EXACTLY the same, but since that will never happen we might as well celebrate our differences.

  • @hardyfh1

    I like you.

  • Not Gypsy enough.

  • Imogen Holst said that Gustav was very overworked at the time he was commissioned to set this poem, and relieved that the lyrics 'fitted' the theme from Jupiter. It was later said that Holst hated this setting, as the lyrics are the opposite of what he believed. A wise man, if you ask me. Written pre-world war one, the poem is naive and ignorant, glorifying two of the greatest enemies of civilisation, war and religion. How stupid that the hymn should be associated with remembrance day.

  • @chrismearscomposer I think your statement is pretty naive. War and religion are the greatest contributors to civilization. We remeber Rome as the great Empire not as a bacwater city that it used to be before it conquered the other tribes. Likewise Christianity in Europe helped unite and create a European sense of identity and likewise with Islam in the Middle East. Religion and war have been central to civilization for all of history.

  • @anthonymeffe1992

I can't say whether I agree with you about Rome or not, but certainly in any recent history (recent having a pretty free definition here) war has been heavily destructive; yes, it speeds up some areas of knowledge and understanding, but civilisation is more than that, it's about people and values.

  • @anthonymeffe1992 I can't accept what you say about religion being a unifying force; yes, on the smaller scale, but that can only happen because on the bigger scale there's a different religion, such as when Christians united on the Crusades. If there isn't a different one the religion will just fragment into different sections, because PEOPLE LOVE TRIBALISM. This attitude of irrationally believing in some difference and generalising, it's exciting, and it's how patriotism survives.

  • @anthonymeffe1992 Anyway, that wasn't my main point.

  • Gustav Holst <3

  • Katherine Jenkins

  • This would be a great national anthem, for the British and Irish Lions too. It does not speak about which country and could apply to any and all. Mercifully free of political and nationalistic sentiment, and represents everyone, while sung in the shared language of the British and Irish islands. Makes sense but I'm sure someone will have something to say about it.

  • @DimpleScot

You're right it shud be it's far better than, god save the Queen............... wot's that all about!!!

  • GO SCOTLAND!!!

  • This is a BRITISH patriotic song. Nowhere in the song is England mentioned. It was written as a song about ones homeland and heaven. It became a hymn in the 20s and we sing it in church at Armistice in Scotland.

  • @hamefurgid Words and music by Englishmen...

  • @Damnblastify Agreed. Auld Lang Syne with several old tunes not counting the well known one, written by a famous Scot and tunes by several Scots plus one English man and sung all over the world. Not a problem and happy to share the lyrics which were about mankind and friendship. :)

  • @hamefurgid the first verse is reference to england, the second is to heaven.

  • @hamefurgid

this hymn was originally part of Gustav Holsts' "The Planets".

It was taken from that piece and turned into a traditional tune.

  • @Bambamyd Yes, I know. I was referring to the words. :)

  • @pouch98 It may be an English song but it refers to Britain as a whole so in my opinion it dnt matter who sings it also it got nothing to with anthems lol English anthem is "God save the Queen" tho there have been discusions bout ppl wanting a seperate anthem for us like the others do but I dnt see a major need for that after all the Queen does live in England :) however if we were to have one just for England I think Jerusalem would be a good choice :D

  • No offence but Jenkins is WELSH and this is an ENGLISH song, the Welsh wouldn't tolerate an English singer performing the Welsh national anthem. Please leave this to English singers.

  • @Pouch98 I'm of Anglo Scots, Jewish descent. It'll do for me anyway.

  • @Pouch98 Its a British song not English and i'm English.

  • When I'm old enough I will vow to thee my country! xxx

  • 27 thought it said, "I vow to pee my country" and pissed themselves, missing the like button as a result.

  • 27 gallows should be prepared in the tower. Enter them through the traitors gate.

    Rule Britannia.

  • I will always love England.

God bless you all from America.

  • It is said that even King George V wanted this to be our national anthem and Prince William has also indicated that this should be ENGLAND'S anthem, and the U.K as a whole should continue to have "God Save The Queen" as the national anthem.

  • Cant understand why this isn't Britain's National Anthem.

  • @glennadshead i can understand why this isnt the britain's national anthem..... its because god havent save the queen yet =P

  • shes so fit

  • @mufc99ok that all you think of when she sings this? yeh................go to fucking america

  • @winstonchurchill95 Like you I'm Australian born with British parentage. I disagree that everything Britain's done has benefited the world. Millions of people have suffered and died at the hands of the British Empire, our own Indigenous people for example. But I think the world was a bleak place and almost everyone was bad once. So on balance, I love Britain for giving us so much science, improved democracy, security, sport, music, Shakespeare, Dickens, Bronte sisters, Spitfires, Lancasters, etc

  • @trixwiz7 "Indigenous people" - Do you remember the Australian government moving the Aborigines? Australia is not much better though for one reason, the majority of Australians come from British convicts sent out there. Go back 100 years ago and Australia was nothing more than a prison.

  • @16MattC Oh I completely agree with the first part of what you said. The Australian govt is as culpable as the British. Basically about 100 000 Aborigines were killed when Australia was ruled by the British Govt, then the Aus Govt (after Federation) continued the trend and displaced them

But 100years back Aus was more than a prison and most Aussies aren't descended from convicts (lots are though), millions of Brits, Irish, etc emigrated freely, look up the historical demography you'll see

  • @trixwiz7 shut the fuck up!

  • @dazzini82 Who are you? Nick Griffin's bum boy?

  • 1980.6.29

    Feliz campeanos (^o^)

  • top song, this should be our national anthem, not royalist claptrap like god save our queen wake up britain!

  • @greywolf846 In my opinion, Rule Britainnia AND God Save The Queen. Last time we became a republic Cromwell was in charge, and we all know how well that went...

  • I think it's awesome how the wind always blows gently at her when she sings.....

  • LEROOOOOYYYY JENKIIINNNNNNNSSSSS!!!

  • @winstonchurchill95 colonialist repression

  • So English, so beautiful, i fear we are all in danger of losing it all to immigration laws. i want my children to grow up in a christian country not a muslim one.

  • couldn't agree more.

  • @sprucey22 then move to Iceland ! Begone ! from a Scot ! white, and secular

  • @keirfree, you're a faggot

  • Her Face is so young but her voice is so matured but anyway that song is great I'm Proud of Britain even I'm not british LOVE THEIR PLACE LOVE & THEIR CULTURE!

  • Thank God for the British... This is probably the most beautiful hymn tune ever.

  • Shut up yourself. You live up to your user name

  • @Strawberry7Lynn That is the way some people naturally sing. You're clearly ignorant, shut up.

  • @Strawberry7Lynn

Because she is an opera singer! :) R u stupid?

  • I love you Kath....

  • why can't this be the british national anthem? ours is shit and we do have some really good music like this!!

  • love you forever....my sweet love Katherine

  • Every day I listen to my heart 山河慟哭

  • the 27 who dis like this leave our lands we dont want u here

  • @Shawners198 thats no way to treat the retarded southerners who don't understand immigration only works in small numbers that does require assimilation as well otherwise it just creates a shithole shitty of hate called London with no unique culture or heritage to call its own but i can't see how you can complain about that when Canada is well known to be the new Asia my cousins told me theres tonnes of Asians in their city and they live in Canada

  • @JamesCunnyy Ya the Liberals here want to make Canada look like a shit hole just like london. It seems they can't make it happen fast enough. We are about 5-10 years behind the UK though.

  • @Shawners198 idiot

  • @Shawners198 My, your partents and teachers must be proud of you for being so articulate, tolerant, and broad-minded. Good work.

  • @Shawners198 Cheers!!

  • such a sour-faced singer

  • @daisyhaizey Jealous much?

  • Elle est vraiment sublime; je regrette de ne pas y être ..............

  • THIS SHOULD BE OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!

  • @haMMy27691 umm it's militiaristic not monarchical so although it's patriotic that's not such a good idea

  • @haMMy27691 no jerusalem should be

  • @haMMy27691 yeah but we have a queen who's a huge part of national pride etc. so that's why we pay homage to her in our national anthem (or him when she dies)

  • Beautiful.

  • There's a video on here of Russell Watson singing this and he's awful. Katherine Jenkins is far better. :)

  • this is similar to Jamaican national pledge

  • I FUCKING LOVE JUPITER. GO HOLST

  • to any doubters who look at britain, be aware of one certainty,,,,the spirit lives on.undiluted and deep.

  • @ronsiris Although I am Chinese American I am proud to say I come from the stock of two great colonies, America and Hong Kong

  • @nosvaructu two wonderful colonies indeed.

  • @ronsiris Just what I thought too when I came across this, and before I read your post:-)

  • east london geezer i know what you are talking about, Katherine opened harrods with al fayed, there was an anti fur protest outside as harrods is the only store in the uk to keep on selling fur, mainly to foreigners . Katherine does turn her back and i can say that i was very dissapointed to see her do this, come on katherine where is your compassion before greed. the organisation protesting were 'CAFT' you can see katherine and al fayed turning their backs on animals on the caft website

  • gosg,i love this song...and i love katherine

  • well i agree with some of the comments here. If the UK is to remain the country it used to be, then they should stop third world immigrants coming and ruining the whole place. People who want sharia law and do not want to assimilate must be kicked out or prevented from landing there.

  • imo this is best sung by a large group of men :D

  • Singing voice appeals me beautifully, beautifully.

  • the most beautiful song that describes the emotions in the simplest of all possible words....it just makes you realize how stupid we are to fight..how foolish we are to destroy the best thing we have...how ruthless we are to kill the innocent..and then we say we want peace...well if thats what we want then why is there destruction still...

this song makes me cry..it makes u feel like somthings wrong out there...somethings missing.....

    peace...

  • Why do these foul mouthed folks have to spoil what is great music by childish insults it seems so damned unfair these guys wrote and she sings so well then some guys just use these comments to pass insults. Sad, very sad,

  • Walk it off, Boys, Walk it off.

  • she's about as close to perfection as humans can get.

  • @scottishlad1987 here here

    totally Agree :-D

  • @Polaris688 fuck you!

  • @Polaris688 None, you idiot. Incidentally, while I'm not normally one to boast (too vulgar for us Limeys; we leave that sort of thing to you ex-colonial types), while I may be a postal worker (and proud of it), I also have a first-class honours degree.

  • @SteveH51 "None, you idiot." i.e. how much of the UK is under sharia law. Forgot to add the quote. (cue more semi-literate mockery from across the pond.)

  • @Polaris688 "Postal worker, yeah that's a r-e-a-l important job..."

I think so, and it's one I'm proud to do. Where would the modern world be without us? Up shit creek, that's where. "and wtf is a "Herefordshire"?" It's a county in the South-West of England. Hertfordshire, otoh, which is what my profile says, is a county about 25 miles north of London. Do try to read more carefully, there's a good chap.

    Polaris688 11 hours ago

  • @Polaris688 "you better get ready ass-licker fascism, especially in the UK, is about to make a BIG comeback." (sic passim.) In your wet dreams, you pathetic, semi-literate buffoon. Our grandparents stopped Mosley's thugs in the 30s and the real fascists in the 40s, and I and a few thousand others had them on the run in Welling in the early 90s.

Incidentally, comments about my remembering to use the dash are a bit rich from someone who can't even use commas properly.

  • @Polaris688 Cyrpto-fascist moron.

  • @rctsos you're a twat. Coming from a white entirely English guy from the UK, I can safely say that our country is not being 'ruined' by immigrants from the 3rd world at all. I feel proud to live in a multicultural country. I dont know why people listen to someone from a country like Japan, who themselves refuse to admit the disgusting warcrimes they commited against the Chinese in the second world war. Look up Unit 731. An absolute fucking disgrace.

  • @rctsos That is so true, what a great comment. You are more switched on than most brits!

  • This is a truly beautiful song, sung by a fabulously gifted woman.

As an American I must say that I admire and respect the British immensely. Despite wars, and differences over the centuries, we share a common heritage, and there will always be a swell of pride and sense of brotherhood between us.

    God save the queen!

  • puts down cup of tea.... salutes

  • Should be the national anthem, no doubt.

  • @rctsos ruined by the massive influx of immigrants form the 3rd world? more like ruined by the massive influx of you. sorta hypocritical, the japanese culture has been reduced to nothing, with [your] attempts to replicate the west and ridiculous porn industry.

  • @Zalathras

Er? Japan porn is huge in their country - what are you on about?!

  • @rctsos Immigrants make up way less than 5% of the population? We're still a great country, we've just moved away from our past imperialistic culture, I think that is more something to be proud of? Thanks for the compliment, but you're talking out of your arse

  • @fitbrit89 5%? bullshit, been to london lately?

  • @fitbrit89 Still a great country? Please pass me your 'rose tinted' glasses! We've been sold out.............

  • I LOVE THIS SONG , SO BEAUTIFUL
