Oh Klaus. I love this performance...what a beautiful soul he was. Consummate performer. We lost a brilliant man way too soon. This performance is absolutely chilling.
This has got to be his best performance of this song. Thank God for these French videos-the quality is so beautiful. Where would this world be without gayness? Makes you realize what AIDS took away.
Klaus Nomi, outright genius, entertainer extraordinaire, like many of his kind, left much too soon, but before passing on, had at least seen a glimpse of the recognition, adulation he would posthumously. come to earn. Klaus Nomi ,RIP
WOW, is all I can say! Never heard of this guy before until today and i've just been listening to a few of his songs and on my gosh this man can SING. Some of his stuff isn't to my taste but that's more the tunes than his singing which is just totally flawless. Can't believe what an incredible vocal range this guy had.
@ysbaddaden2003 I somehow find your comment hilarious , I laughed so so so much...I love Nomi , but was imagining your fellow at the army werent listenning the same kiind of stuff and thought u were some huge freak..Priceless comment AHAHHA..
its also klaus's fans who are amazing. reading the comments...its beautyfull to see that all the comments come from the heart, unlike some other singer's fans.. and i agree. seeing all these people that just found out who he is great. strangly...im only 13, this is proof that nomi will never die. :-)
As a Nomi fan of 18 years, it is so refreshing for me to see so many people just being introduced to his genius for the first time. He died just as he was breaking into the mainstream, and it is really a shame that so few people have had the chance to hear him.
I was just introduced to Nomi (and by way, Percell) today by pure chance. I feel like a lucky man! I am always looking for a unique artistic genius and here is (was) one for sure.
La merveilleuse Catherine allait dire quelque chose de bien, mais Ruggieri ne lui laisse pas placer un mot... lol ..enfin, tant pis, Klaus Nomi est divin, comme toujours
Dear Klaus, still being missed by so many people who are open to what's different after 25 years. It's not given to many amongst us. May you have noticed some of it, where ever it is you are.
The most beautiful gift music has given birth to. Wonderful voice and wonderful man. 25 years later, his aura remains the same. his magic is eternal , and his talent still brings tears to my eyes. I love you Klaus.
look on google for the lyrics the Frank Purcell's opera "King arthur" the aria is called Let me freaze again. and just for the story this aria is sung by a bass voice.
He would be dead just 2 years after this performance. Such a sad loss, indeed. RIP, Klaus.

Such tragic circumstances around his death. His friends all but abandoned him, fearing infection of a disease that was barely understood.

@AristYdes It was the eighties! I agree. The music and voice are so beautiful and yet I think Nomi was trying to get at the absurd in life.

(Music by Henry Purcell, Lyrics by John Dryden)
What Power art thou who from below
Hast made me rise unwillingly and slow
From beds of everlasting snow?
See'st thou not how stiff and wondrous old,
Far unfit to bear the bitter cold,
I can scarcely move or draw my breath?
Let me, let me freeze again to death

Purcell was a natural genius, his harmonies are so chilling, that is what makes this so fascinating.
Nomi sings it well, certainly and his impersonation of the cold genius fits well. Still the music does it.
Interesting man Nomi, the best die young they say and again it seems to be true. RIP Klaus, your last line has indeed come true.
smitschagen 2 years ago 32
And Purcell was even younger than Klaus when he died!
trylonperisphere 2 years ago 2
You're right about the music, but it was Nomi who introduced so many people who only knew popmusic to this wonderful world of Purcell.
