  • Any virus??

  • I did exactly what you shown, and it still doesn't show up in my data file at launch or show up in my FOMM, any ideas what the issue is? For fellout, I extracted it, the only file that was in it was Fellout-Full.esm along with 2 readme texts. I put them all in the data folder so its E:/BethesdaSoftworks/Fallout3/Data/Fellout-Full.esm. From what I take, all I had to do was add it to the data file and then it should of showed up when you started Fallout 3 under the data button but nothing shows

  • @brandon43512

Make sure that you patched the game to the most recent version.

  • whenever i download mods, or make something with the geck, it doesnt appear in my fallout 3 data folder at the launch screen. Can someone explain why and help me?

  • @SGNerf1

  • i dont know if anyone else gets this problem but when i try and open the launcher, i t says: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem." ? :( does nyone know what to do?

  • @JuicedDeadpool

What Launcher are you using? Maybe an ini file setting is wrong. Already patched to the latest version?

  • @phoneyLogic Don't worry, i discovered FOMM :)

  • @allAMERICANjedi Try reinstalling it

  • why does my fomm dont start?

  • @PIETalmighty20

Check out the error message. A common issue is, that people don't start their game once the default way after installing.

  • winrar works to right?

  • @DrAwsome5

    yep, works as well

  • My textures and all that are in .bsa format can you make a video on how to work with those?

  • @NoobSushi

You can USE FOMM's built in BSA Browser to unpack those bsa archives. I remember some videos regarding unpacking the archives. Search the nexus for texture tutorials regarding this.

  • fallout*

  • Is your computer in German?

  • @uhbthnjhg

Yes, that's German. This probably looks wierd, huh? :D

  • @phoneyLogic It looks a bit weird. Too bad I don't know German, it seems like a great language.

  • What is the song?

  • @pyromantom

    "Diamond" by Klint

  • @phoneyLogic Thanks man

  • this is not working is it cuz i have windows 7 ?

  • @RealFrakun & all

If you use Windows 7 or Vista, have a look at the description box.

There's a link to the full guide at fallout3nexus.

Under point V ) "Installing Fallout" is a work around the UAC issue which is known to cause various problems such as preventing mods from working at all.

    ...

Thumbs up if it fixed the problem :D

  • whenever i go into my fallout folder and theres no data file what should i do?

  • @zeldaboy4

    Serch you computer for "Fallout3.esm".

If there would be no data folder, there would be no game installed.

  • @phoneyLogic thanks

  • @phoneyLogic thanks man i owe you :)

  • @9999freedom

Booked, I'm coming back to this ;D

  • @Nighthawk438

Under point V ) Installing Fallout.

It's just a work around the UAC issue which is known to cause various problems with mods.

  • @Nighthawk438

High, dude, maybe even higher. :D

Just install it somewhere else than "Program files"

Have a look at the description, there's a link to some install hints.

  • my checkmark disappears

  • @Benmedrano4000

Did you install the latest Patch? This usually happens with an unpached Version.

  • HELP, EVERY TIME I LOAD A MOD fallout 3 crashes!!!! IM RUNNING WINDOWS &, HELP!!!!!!!

  • I run the archiveinvalidation and it says cannot find the FALLOUT.INI

and I also think i saved over all my other meshes and sounds....

  • @deadlyzin101

Run Fallout once with the default launcher until you are in the main menu, then quit. The ini should be created.

  • What song is that? D:

  • i think i fucked up my fallout doing this on the launcher if i click data files the actual game is missing :S

  • @babiemariopwns

    :D sounds like a reinstall.

Have a look at the description. There's a link to a guide which also contains a point called "Reinstalling Fallout".

    Good luck :P

  • @phoneyLogic did that and then the archiver started working so it actually helped reinstaling lost my saves though :(

  • @babiemariopwns

Have a look at the same guide at the point "Where have all the save games gone"

    :D

  • Hey, does doing this method work with body mods, and really big mods. I have tryed it before and it never worked, always had missing textures

  • @supertysman

    Yes, it's the same method.

  • you can do this if you installed it through steam right? i want to install it through steam and i dont feel like searching for a retail copy of the game and i certainly dont want to pirate it, for i am far too lazy to learn how to get the iso to work. please help!

  • @samusaron0

Works similar for Steam, only the Data folder is in

    C: \ Program Files \ Steam \ steamapps \ Common \ Fallout 3 \ Data

    if you installed Steam there.

  • @phoneyLogic thanks, but i was referring to the link you have in your description that states on that page that "The Path for Steam Versions is C: \ Program Files \ Steam \ steamapps \ Common \ Fallout 3 \ Data

and can't be customised." that is on fallout nexus about 1/4 down the page.

  • @samusaron0

Well, in fact you can customise the path if you install Steam somwwhere else than Program Files. But Fallout will still be in

    ... Steam \ steamapps \ Common \ Fallout 3 \ Data

    Maybe I missed the question?

Mods just always go into the Data folder.

The Steam version is as good as retail.

  • I liked the way Oblivion did it for adding mods, this is just to much.

  • @abbath1586

In general iIt's pretty much the same. The Archive Invalidation is new, since now you have the game ressources packed in the bsa archives. It's more convenient this way, one just needs to get used to.

  • What's the name of this song?

  • @cavman178

    d'oh confused sth

    The song is:

    Klint - Diamond [snatch soundtrack]

    youtube.com/watch?v=KzShwtQHYms

  • @phoneyLogic well that is what I tried with Broken Steel and I ended up with missing model errors everywhere and being stuck under the clinic bed in the citadel in camera mode after finishing the normal game.

  • @SOMERANDOMGUYDOZ

    Latest patch (1.7) installed?

  • What song is this?

  • Klint - Diamond [snatch soundtrack]

    youtube.com/watch?v=KzShwtQHYms

  • how do i update fallout 3

  • @dinerosrt

    By installing the latest patch.

    bethsoft [dot] com

  • How do I install a DLC?

  • @SOMERANDOMGUYDOZ

Manually? Just exactly like a mod, only with additional bsa file.

  • i have to admit this is the only video that made any sense to me the rest were just shooting stars over my head

  • how to update to the latest update?

  • I use win rar and i extract just like im supposed to but when i use mods with custom models and textures when i go into the game the texture of my modded gun is always the texture of my pipboy my armor that i am currently wearing or the ground and ive tried wverything please someone help :(

  • would WIN.rar work it worked for oblivion

  • @xMRxSMILESx

Of cause, winrar is not free but very handy.

  • @phoneyLogic Well.. it's not free but.. it's free, kinda. I've used it for like 5 years.

  • @700007123 For free I mean

  • @700007123

Dunno, is it shareware? I have a version with key from a software magazine.

  • @phoneyLogic Yes, i't s shareware.

  • @phoneyLogic

Can you do a tut for installing mod's with .BSA files?

  • @majoraswrath132

No, since it's exactly the same just with bsa file. ;P

Have a look at the linked guide in the description.

  • @phoneyLogic

Cheers, I never read the desc :P

  • Everything i do il do all of this but it will never show up in data files

  • @custardkid187

Make shure you got into the right data file. Sometimes people dont realise that they have several FO3 installations. Also update your game to the latest version. I heard there are problems with early versions. Whats your OS?

  • cool background

  • Comment removed

  • dude ive tried everything man making a data folder seeing if it works it doesnt man im out of options dude

  • i havent got the thing you have to extract a mod from

  • @hazzainius && killeranime12

Go to 7zip.org and install that program

  • I did it correctly but i get crashes after started the game when i selected the Mods that i wanted to apply. Turning it off solved the problem any help?

  • @darnops

Some mods do have conflicts. It's recommended to read the readmes. If this doesn't help, check / Uncheck your Mods and start your game until found the culprit.

In the linked guide (descriptionbox) you'll find links to support forums and tools like FO3Edit, which help troubleshooting.

  • @phoneyLogic I updated my fallout 3 and the mods work likes a charm

  • @darnops the update makes it work??

  • @iCallumx I dont know how it happend but updating fallout 3 makes ALL my mod works

  • Ok so I went to install a mod from the 'Fallout3Nexus' website, and it comes up and it turns out to be a word file. It only opens a word file and thats it. And its not in a file. I haven't had this problem until a few days ago. The mod was the "Ghoulification" mod. Can someone help me. Oh and I have win7. Its a rar. file how do i open it.

  • i dont have a data folder in my fallout 3 folder. what the fuck

  • does this work for windows 7?

  • @karzonyx

Yep, works with Win7 as well. Follow the linked guide in the description and pay attention to "Point V) Installing Fallout"

    good luck

  • snatch music ftw

  • So if i'm downloading clothes and drag the meshes and textures folders to data, is it ok to merge them with existing folders of the same name? Alot of the mods I got have folders with the same name and I think I may have messed them up by renaming each folder. Such as meshes 1, meshes 2 etc... Please any help would be appreciated.

  • @Necronomissen

Yep, just merge them together. Don't rename anything.

  • i dont have a data folder... i hit games, fallout 3 and these are the only folders: bin, DXREDIST, G4WL, Screenshots. plz help

  • @SuperBadboy97

The game folder is that one there you installed Fallout to.

Have a read in the linked guide about "how to install Mods" in description of the video.

  • Thanks A Lot!

  • what part of the case do i find out what contry it was made in?

  • @blasterguy101

You have to figure out your language version.

    ( English / American English / French / Spanish / Italian / German / Austrian / ... )

Then just install the patch for your.

  • @phoneyLogic well its obviously not english or american but the text is in english but when i install the patch it dont run.

  • @blasterguy101

How can we figure out what language version you have?

  • ok next post, i have also tried getting the lastest update by bethed softworks or what ever they are called and suprise suprise the game dont run. please someone answer i realy want the mods to work. and i cant see were im going wrong.

  • ok people i realy need help the last question wasent realy relevent. my problem here is when i extract all the files from the mod "correctly" i launch the game and click on data files. i check the ones i want, and then just to see if they worked i look on data files (fallout3 menu) again. suprise suprise they are not checked. pluss there is a progrm called fose and people say you need it, so i install that to try and get them to work and suprise suprise thats not working eather. next "q" next p

  • cannot find FALLOUT.INI, please select the Fallout.INI located in your my documents folder. accept there is not FALLOUT.INI...... plzplzplzplz help me!

  • @blasterguy101

Start Fallout once by using the default Launcher and all the ini files will be created.

  • fuck it all. none of these files are compatible and just causing me to download tons of shit. i dunno why. fuck it all.

  • Ure like the best tutorial man eva

  • @Roflmaoer6397

    :D thanks

  • I got it working FOSE helped also I love ure bid cud use with explaining in voice though but still is friken awesome

  • Also Windows Live

  • Phoneylogic

Erm goty and I dunno how to add the mod the the Data File help? Also do I need FOSE

  • @Roflmaoer6397

I suggest to read the guide which is linked in the description. There you'll find lots of information.

  • Also how long dos it take to dwnload

  • @Roflmaoer6397

    Do you mean Fallout?

If so then it should be round about 8 GB. This can take a while and the Steam version is not the best choice imo. If you ask me the GotY retail edition is your best bed.

  • @phoneyLogic

Omfg I thought winzip wus be allright vut 1q Is winrar free

  • Thnx dawg

  • i have winzip so will it still work?

  • @ngamer964

Think about installing 7zip from 7-zip(dot)org. Winzip may not support all the file formats.

    @D197JN and all

    thx for the feedback

  • @phoneyLogic yeah i just installed winrar instead it works fine now. thanks anyway though!

  • It dosn't work! >:(

  • @Afresim

    What does not work?

    Information technology? xD

So, what is your game version, your OS and what does not work?

  • @Darkingfate

    Hey mate,

nope, once is enough if you use the tool ArchiveInvalidated. If you use other tools, you may need to repead the progress thingy.

  • deutsch :D geiles vid hat mir geholfen i like ^^

  • thank you phoneylogic, this is the most lucid video out there

  • @friedrice60

    Thank you :-)

  • @SergeantArdo

Hey, can you post your system specs, your game version (patch?), the kind of your operating system and so on?

  • hey ive downloaded some armor and when i put any of it on it doesnt show, my dude just turn invis on the parts where the armor should be, any ideas?

  • @ProjektDJGhozt

Hey Dude, have you done the Archive-Invalidation and are there Exclamtion Marks or sth? Do you use VIsta/Win7?

  • I use Archive and not sure what u mean by Exclamation Marks and sth, an yes i use vista

  • You probably need to work around the UAC problem. How to do that, you'll find at point 5 "Install Fallout" in the linked guide in the description box.

    Good luck

  • I used the archive thing and it crashed my game, then I use mod manager, but know I dont know where to find them.

  • Have you worked around the UAC problem?

Baysicly two ways to do so:

    1) disable UAC

    2) install Fallout somewhere outside the Program folder

How it works you'll find at point IV) at the linked guide in the description box.

  • Now, im trying to download a mod called 20th century weapons v4...but i cant play it, its just a massive exclamation mark, ive extracted all the folders into the fallout 3 data folder, and downloaded the othwer two mods you need for it to work, ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated and CALIBR, damn, if someones got this mod can you plz talk me through how to download it thnx, and by the way its not that ive missed out any meshes or textures :(

  • Whats your OS? XP, Vista, Win7?

  • @phoneyLogic Its Vista Home Premium.

  • @cheechman636

Oh, sorry dude, just recognised your comment.

Under Vista you should disable UAC. Click on the guide linked in the discription box.

    Point V ..... Installing Fallout

  • to bad i cant drag it because its on a disk :\

  • You have to install Fallout to your HardDrive first.

When there should be folders on your HD in which the files of the mods have to be droped in.

Eh, have you seriously tried to install your Mods to your DVD Drive? xD

  • DO you need FOMM? I have Vista and it won't allow me to start FOMM :(

  • No, it makes some things easier, but you don't need it. If you follow the linked guide, it should work this way without problem.

  • sometimes i move the data to the fallout 3 file enter the game and then the textures are all changed ! help plz

  • Hi, I'm not sure if I got it right. What's your OS?

What do you exactly do and what happens?

  • OS ? i found out that part i got a new problem my problem was archive invalidation my NEW problem is that when i use archive invalidation my pipboy gets out of the screen

  • @deni484deni

OS means Operating System. There could be a problem. Check ou the linked guide in the description box, point 5

  • why does my pipboy gets out of mah screen !

  • Have you read the guide or do you expect to get everything explained here?

  • how do i install mods that i make

  • That's pretty easy.

Just highlight the mod you made and then hit Delete... xD

  • I downloaded the new patch but it still dont work. Do you need to do something more than: Extract the file, Copy it to the Datafolder and activate it?

  • That's why I asked what OS you are using. Basicly, the folders like textures, meshes, sound belong into the data folder and the plugin as well. Then do the ArchiveInvalidation. If you us Windows 7 or Vitsa, then read point V ..... Installing Fallout at the linked guide in the description box.

    good luck :-)

  • Do you need G.E.C.K to run a mod? When i start the game with the mod the ''custom'' items are only a big exclamation mark. Please can some1 help me?

  • @TheFaedline

Ju don't need the GECK to run them but it would be a nice addition though.

    Now to the problem:

    Red exclamation marks means; that

    1) the folderstructure is not correct

    2) the archiveinvalidation failed

What's your OS and what patch version are you running?

  • how do you get the clothes and weapons you mod into the game? im new to pc gaming but have modded alot. do you have to rename the mod to replace something else?

  • Basicly there are two ways to add new content to the game.

    1) replacing game files:

this will be done by the "Archive Invalidation". The files you want to add need to be placed in the data folder with the same folder structure and the same names of the vanilla files which remain packed in the bsa files. This will replace an existing Item etc.

    2) By the A-Invalidation in connection with a Plugin (*.ESP) made in G.E.C.K.:

With this method you are able to add completely new content to the game.

  • ok, thanks. ive taught myself everything using the geck

  • Wow, this was fast. Good luck with modding the hell out the game :-)

  • my laptop wasnt designed for playing games though. ive got to use it on lowest and even then its still jumpy.

  • Yeah, I had the same problem with my outdated computer. I was only able to play the lowest settings. And this was really a pita since I only had an Geforce 6200 with 128MB Memory on my old AMD Athlon 3200+ ^^ with 1 GB RAM

Long story short I updated to 2GB RAM, bought a better Card (ATI Radeon HD 4650, AGP, 1024MB video RAM, 70 €) and got a second Harddrive, where I install games to.

OK, it's still an outdated Rig, but now I can play F3 even on high settings with round about 30 fps.

  • Ha, thats just what im doing now i got that laptop for christmas. Im updating to 2gb of ram and already have a 512mb video card. I hope its gunna be an improvement. Also if you want to try something to increase the performance more, I have this program called tuneup utilities. It has a setting called turbo mode this basicly stops all unnesasary background processes like virus scans that use up resources. It speeds up my games quite alot and its not from a dodgey site either.

  • Good luck with that :-), should improve game play.

Haven't tried the TuneUp turbo mode yet. Muste be a newer feature since it is not included in the 2008 version. Thanks for the tip though :-)

  • i just downloaded the babe mod

i followed all the steps you showed on here and its not showing up

i checked my data files in the launcher and the check box thingy wasn't there either

    help?

  • @CJ1777

    Three things come into mind.

    1) update the game to version 1.7

    2) check you folders and AI-Invalidation again (read point II and III of the guide linked in the description box)

    3) if you are running Win7 or Vista --> disable UAC (read point V)

    hope this helps

  • ok I updated checked the guide did what it said, I even downloaded fomm

    nothing

  • @CJ1777

Ok, is the plugin shown in FOMM?

If not, the folder structure must be wrong --- just because the plugin definately should be shown in FOMM if you installed it right.

So what is the full name of the mod you've installed and where you downloaded it?

  • @flingan95

The colors of the weapons are changeing because the ArchiveInvalidation failed.

This can happen if you have Windows 7 / Vista and if you installed F3 to the default directory.

You should read point V and point III at the linked guide in the description box right beside the video.

  • Hey can you help me with this? After I extracted the stuff and tried to run it all it says is: Cannot find FALLOUT.ini, please select the FALLOUT.ini located in your my documents folder. I looked everywhere for the FALLOUT ini thing and i cant find it and i cant run the AchiveInvalidation thing. WTF? Help

  • Yep, you need to run Fallout once with the default Launcher. The Fallout.ini will be created with the first video setting.

  • how I install 1.7 i did but still wont let me play game do i need 2 drag it in a folder if so which 1. if nt tht can sum 1 plz help me!

  • Heya,

have a look into the discriptionbox on the right. There you'll find a link to a guide which explains a little bit more, about the locations, where & what and so on. Hope this helps and sory for the late answer. :-)
