Hi all, i've been looking at this card lately and it seems too good to be true.I mean, i was going to get a HD5770 1GB and in my country (transalated from my kind of money to $) it costs around $140.Then i looked at this card and saw a version of it for only $132 (it was the sapphire version).it just doesn't seem right, especially not when the next type of this card (gigabyte) costs $205.Please someone confirm for me that the sapphire version is as good as the normal and better than the HD5770.
hi thanks for the video very informative just one question do you think it would be best to get two 5830 or one higher graphics card like the 5850 or 5870 thxs
Honestly thats quite cheap , you see , after paying 300 over for my mother board and grahic card , which is nvidia 9500 , i can't even play counter stirke source without spiking.

they really should have overclocked the game edition, i mean i overclocked the non game edition to 875/1200 really fast, and i really could push it further, but i cant in ATI CCC so that sux
Hey wiz, I need some recommandation. So I got an "old" amd X2 4200 and a 3870.. I Wanted to skip the 4xxx series and pick up a 58xx but they got prized very high.after 5770 &5830 came out, they seemed to be the deal in prizing, but Iam afraid, that a 5830 could be to fast for the old cpu. so what do you say, get a 5770 instead? oder what till the 5850/70 drop to ~$200 (maybe this Xmas?) and buy a new cpu too? or would it take long for the 58xxcards to drop in prize?Idont wanna wait another year
I really want this card but i dont know if it will do a good combo with my old Intel Pentium D (2 cores @ 2.70Ghz). What do you guys think i should do?? I only have 400bucks so i cant buy another cpu + mobo + this card
hi PCWizKid, can you tell me if the 5830 is worth getting over the 5770 even though it is like £40 more ? maybe you have done a good benchmark comparing the 2 (Not in CF mode) against each other ?
5770 has Memory Clock: 4800MHz - Processing Cores: 800
5830 has Memory Clock: 4000MHz - Processing Cores: 1120
so what is better to have more of, memory clock or Processing Cores ?
@NitroProffin Processing cores is what does it. Memory you can overclock a little and your done. So there is a difference when comparing cards that have 300 to 500 more processing cores. I would get the HD5770 and overclock it and save the $40 , if you really want to see a big jump in speed get the HD5850.
@PCWizKid cheers for the reply mate =] so are you saying forget about the 5830 and just get the 5770 or 5850 ? or should i get the 5830 wich has more Processing Cores and just overclock it to the same memory clock as the 5770 ? would doing so result to a faster card to the 5770 in all areas ?
@NitroProffin yes the HD5830 is faster for sure, its just are you willing to pay for it? or can you live with the difference and like you said just overclock and your fine.
@PCWizKid sure im willing to pay the extra for better performance, i guess i will get the 5830 and oc it to the equivalent of the 5770 then, thanks for the help PCWizKid =]
@PCWizKid hey here in england this is priced £160, 5770 is £140 and 5850 is £235, i want to get best band for the buck.. i think i should go for the 5830 for just 20 more than 5770 and more than £60 less than 5850.. do you agree?
@LFCforEver12341 Well it depends if your planning on overclocking or not. The 5770 uses much less energy and you might be fine with that , save the moneyand get a better CPU for example. But if you already have a CPU and want to get performance of a HD5850 then you can overclock the HD5830 and your set for a while.
@PCWizKid yes i overclock alot, i have a phenom 550 at 4ghz and my 1333 mhz ram overclocked to 2000 mhz, 9-9-9-24 @1.65v. anyways the 5850 is too expensive and il just get a 5830.. is there a way to change voltage and if so would it make a difference from which manufacturer i get it from? (eg, XFX, saphhire, ASUS, powercolour etc)
@PCWizKid someone told me this card is 11.5 inches long. I want this card but I can't fit it in the case i want if its that long. So is it really 11.5 inches?
@GooberProductionz hi mate, i decided to get the '1GB sapphire Radeon HD5770 vapor-x OC Edition' as it was the cheapest and seems to be more popular than the 5830. I am currently running my 5770 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with 6GB DDR2 and a AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ 2.6GHz @ 2.8GHz and i must say i am really impressed at the performance of this card considering the price i paid (£155) plus i have not come across any problems so far with the beta drivers, it's a MUST get card!, what card u using ?
@NitroProffin Right no I am using the XFX 4770 with Win7 Ultimate 64bit with 2gb of DDR3 1600mhz RAM and an AMD Phenom II X2 545. Ummm im not really worried about a Video Card Upgrade right now cause I can still run pretty much every game I play at MAX settings with a res of 1920x1080. My next Video Card Upgrade might not be for a while or so cause I did get the 4770 for xmas last year.
@PCWizKid i'v read your previous comments...so your saying that people should get a 5770 and save up for a better cpu? is phenom II 955 black edition x4 good? should i go for i5? i wont like it but if i have to break my piggy bank..sniff...then i must. but if the amd cpu is good enough il gladly stick with it.
@PCWizKid ignore my previous comment. sorry i didnt watch your video yet and when i did, there was alot of difference with the 5770 and the 5830!..for me! could you also send me a link on how to overclock? sry if im bugging you but i'm one of those people who want to noe if my money was well spent. does it work well with a phenom II 955 black edition? my plan was to get this with this card. cant afford an i5 with it though, can a 20" support 1680 reso. too?
hey pcwizkid... is it possible to change graphix cards on laptops.. cuz i wanna change from my a ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics to something like tthis a really good one?
@hammyedge not really, some laptops are easier than others, but overall, the answer is NO. Some graphics are attached to the main board and cannot be replaced at all.
hey! i got this card a week before you reviewed it! it plays every game i had with all setting turned to highest and theres still amazing FPS. i really don't notice much of any lag around 40fps, so i don't know how high i'm ACTUALLY getting, but its probably a lot more than 40.
I have the regular version of this... I'm kinda noob at this, and I'm kinda uneasy about overclocking this. I have a 650w PSU so... I dunno. I want to overclock but I don't want to destroy my video card.
Also, where'd you get the AMD GPU Clock Tool for 5830's? I see them for 5870's and stuff. Is it okay to use that to overclock?
@chin3sematt When you overclock your ATI video card using the ATI overdrive utility make sure you increase your fan so it doesn't overheat. I think you can Download the AMD GPU clock tool from AMD's website. Download GPU-Z to monitor temps on your video card. Cheers!
ok im not going to lie i didnt understand anything. however i do want to understand it.kind of embarrassed to ask but can you give any advice on any type of schools i can go to learn about computers, i'm talking inside and out. any advice would do and would appreciate it. by the way do appreciate your episodes because it does help out on some basics about computers and more.
i have a hd radeon 4200 on board. i just installed ubuntu 10.04 and i need supported drivers. the drivers i am using worked better in 9.1 but not like there supposed to. i am using the newest catalyst drivers currently.
I think that your benchmarks would be even more interesting if you did them with the screen resolution at 1920x1080 (Full HD). I don't think that many people play their games at lower resolutions. I play Crysis at Full HD with 4x anti-aliasing and everything set to High, it runs perfect on my system.
Pretty great card, granted there are better, but I like this card. May have to put one of these in one of my test systems, loved the overall fps in the games you tested.
A heavily overclocked 5830 might beat a 5850 but of course when the 5850 is overclocked all bets are off. Actually the 5830 has recieved a pretty lukewarm reception from website reviews, and in some other benchmarks I've seen the 5850 smokes the 5830. :/
@NDZ12345 That depends, ATI's tend to bounce around 70-80, and any higher than 80 tends to be quite bad, 90 is the bsod/shutdown point, sometimes cards go higher but its still very hot for a card, my 5770 OC'd at 800mhz reaches 60celsius at tops. NVidia cards tend to be alot cooler, so I'm guessing their top temperatures are 70-90, I'd definitely keep them below 80 no matter what.

5770 is 128bit mem enterface + 800 pixel shaders
5830 is 256bit mem enterface + 1120 pixel shaders
To me that translates in to a win for the 5830 in terms of bandwidth.
azkeyz 1 year ago
is there a BIOS update/mod/hack for this ? i'm limited in terms of OC'ing and core voltage ..
KC919191 1 year ago
hi PCWizKid, can you tell me if the 5830 is worth getting over the 5770 even though it is like £40 more ? maybe you have done a good benchmark comparing the 2 (Not in CF mode) against each other ?
5770 has Memory Clock: 4800MHz - Processing Cores: 800
5830 has Memory Clock: 4000MHz - Processing Cores: 1120
so what is better to have more of, memory clock or Processing Cores ?
NitroProffin 1 year ago
@NitroProffin Processing cores is what does it. Memory you can overclock a little and your done. So there is a difference when comparing cards that have 300 to 500 more processing cores. I would get the HD5770 and overclock it and save the $40 , if you really want to see a big jump in speed get the HD5850.
PCWizKid 1 year ago
@PCWizKid cheers for the reply mate =] so are you saying forget about the 5830 and just get the 5770 or 5850 ? or should i get the 5830 wich has more Processing Cores and just overclock it to the same memory clock as the 5770 ? would doing so result to a faster card to the 5770 in all areas ?
NitroProffin 1 year ago
@NitroProffin yes the HD5830 is faster for sure, its just are you willing to pay for it? or can you live with the difference and like you said just overclock and your fine.
PCWizKid 1 year ago
@PCWizKid sure im willing to pay the extra for better performance, i guess i will get the 5830 and oc it to the equivalent of the 5770 then, thanks for the help PCWizKid =]

@PCWizKid how long is this card ?
Pucker7 1 year ago
@PCWizKid hey here in england this is priced £160, 5770 is £140 and 5850 is £235, i want to get best band for the buck.. i think i should go for the 5830 for just 20 more than 5770 and more than £60 less than 5850.. do you agree?
LFCforEver12341 1 year ago
@LFCforEver12341 Well it depends if your planning on overclocking or not. The 5770 uses much less energy and you might be fine with that , save the moneyand get a better CPU for example. But if you already have a CPU and want to get performance of a HD5850 then you can overclock the HD5830 and your set for a while.
PCWizKid 1 year ago
@PCWizKid yes i overclock alot, i have a phenom 550 at 4ghz and my 1333 mhz ram overclocked to 2000 mhz, 9-9-9-24 @1.65v. anyways the 5850 is too expensive and il just get a 5830.. is there a way to change voltage and if so would it make a difference from which manufacturer i get it from? (eg, XFX, saphhire, ASUS, powercolour etc)
LFCforEver12341 1 year ago
@PCWizKid someone told me this card is 11.5 inches long. I want this card but I can't fit it in the case i want if its that long. So is it really 11.5 inches?

GooberProductionz 1 year ago
NitroProffin 1 year ago
@NitroProffin Right no I am using the XFX 4770 with Win7 Ultimate 64bit with 2gb of DDR3 1600mhz RAM and an AMD Phenom II X2 545. Ummm im not really worried about a Video Card Upgrade right now cause I can still run pretty much every game I play at MAX settings with a res of 1920x1080. My next Video Card Upgrade might not be for a while or so cause I did get the 4770 for xmas last year.

NitroProffin 1 year ago
@PCWizKid i'v read your previous comments...so your saying that people should get a 5770 and save up for a better cpu? is phenom II 955 black edition x4 good? should i go for i5? i wont like it but if i have to break my piggy bank..sniff...then i must. but if the amd cpu is good enough il gladly stick with it.
andoi9292 1 year ago
@PCWizKid ignore my previous comment. sorry i didnt watch your video yet and when i did, there was alot of difference with the 5770 and the 5830!..for me! could you also send me a link on how to overclock? sry if im bugging you but i'm one of those people who want to noe if my money was well spent. does it work well with a phenom II 955 black edition? my plan was to get this with this card. cant afford an i5 with it though, can a 20" support 1680 reso. too?
andoi9292 1 year ago
@andoi9292 In my opinion, it's a very good budget gaming PC! With an AMD Phenom 955 and a 5830...

hey! i got this card a week before you reviewed it! it plays every game i had with all setting turned to highest and theres still amazing FPS. i really don't notice much of any lag around 40fps, so i don't know how high i'm ACTUALLY getting, but its probably a lot more than 40.

How does it compare to Older Nvidia cards like the gtx 260 or 280 or 285?...
mrjamesb56 1 year ago
I have the regular version of this... I'm kinda noob at this, and I'm kinda uneasy about overclocking this. I have a 650w PSU so... I dunno. I want to overclock but I don't want to destroy my video card.
Also, where'd you get the AMD GPU Clock Tool for 5830's? I see them for 5870's and stuff. Is it okay to use that to overclock?
chin3sematt 1 year ago
@chin3sematt When you overclock your ATI video card using the ATI overdrive utility make sure you increase your fan so it doesn't overheat. I think you can Download the AMD GPU clock tool from AMD's website. Download GPU-Z to monitor temps on your video card. Cheers!

blameitontenoob 1 year ago
I think that your benchmarks would be even more interesting if you did them with the screen resolution at 1920x1080 (Full HD). I don't think that many people play their games at lower resolutions. I play Crysis at Full HD with 4x anti-aliasing and everything set to High, it runs perfect on my system.

A heavily overclocked 5830 might beat a 5850 but of course when the 5850 is overclocked all bets are off. Actually the 5830 has recieved a pretty lukewarm reception from website reviews, and in some other benchmarks I've seen the 5850 smokes the 5830. :/
maz12004 1 year ago
When overclocking, what would you say the maximum safe temp on a gpu would be?
NDZ12345 1 year ago
@NDZ12345 That depends, ATI's tend to bounce around 70-80, and any higher than 80 tends to be quite bad, 90 is the bsod/shutdown point, sometimes cards go higher but its still very hot for a card, my 5770 OC'd at 800mhz reaches 60celsius at tops. NVidia cards tend to be alot cooler, so I'm guessing their top temperatures are 70-90, I'd definitely keep them below 80 no matter what.
SirDamned 1 year ago
@SirDamned Are the temps you gave idle or full load? I have an ATI card and it hovers at 37-39 idle with 30% fan speed.
NDZ12345 1 year ago
