even though the body work is as good--I think it is in the hardware where USA and MIM differ. Having played and used both I find MIM harder to keep in tune until you change (upgrade) the tuning keys. Also the pots are of a cheaper grade--just me though

Fender doesn't do carved flame tops or fancy guitars because that's not the market segment they're after. They're after the players who can afford a few hundred bucks for a working guitar, not a few thousand for a real work of art. All you can really say about most Fenders is that they're cheap, effective, and for the most part they have about as much individual personality as two slices of bread out of the same bag, shoved in the same toaster.

They're common and cheap. Not ART.

Who cares who makes them. They're made in the USA. The whole pride of owning a US made Guitar is for the stronger quality control that we have, not in the individuals who build them. At the end of the line you get a magnificent instrument so what does it matter in how it is made? Many of our Guitar Heroes bought fairly cheap Guitars and now those same Guitars are some of the most desired. It is not the instrument, it is the player.

Well, I wouldnt call burst colors, bindings and flame tops gay, some people have other preferences. I love both actually, and you can't really compare them.

What they do have in common that their quality started to drop in the recent years. A elitist Epiphone is as good as a Gibson Standard whereas a mexico strat is nearly as good as an american one. Not worth the extra bucks.
