Well, think about it: the note on the high C string can be played one octave lower by playing two frets lower on the D string instead. You basically just do an inversion so the top note of the two becomes the bottom note of the two instead.

i have a equation ive been trying this on my fender jazz bass and the tapping is just not working because my strings are about 1/2 inch off the fretboard at some points. Any suggestions, i know adjusting the bridge but its already pretty low. Thanks!

Sounds like your neck needs to be straightened by adjusting the tension rod.

a lot of fenders also don't have enough of an angle where the neck meets the body. if you get a small piece of wood, pull of the neck and wedge it right into the heel of the neck pocket you can raise it a couple of mm's. this'll do wonders for some of those action problems. :)

I've changed the double-stops slightly so that it's playable on a 4-string. The original requires a 6-string bass (needs the high C string).  One of these days I'll record the note-perfect version using my 6-string bass.

Roundwounds. I'm not attached to any specific kind. Sometimes I use nickel and sometimes I use stainless steel (DR's). I tend to like medium-to-light-gauge strings since they have a little more flex to them.
