  • Lol and the effiel tower is American

  • @goodie006, Nautilus1972 is correct, look up Statue of Liberty in Wikipedia

  • Comment removed

  • @Duncanish41 oh lol oops.i just wikied it. yeah you're right :) i always thought it was a gift from america. Anyway, yeah they're both french!! haha sorry!!

  • @goodie006 soo it's a "gift" from France

  • @LatynaH haha if you say so

  • I want to sing like that too!! Bravo!!

  • "beyond the sea" I ment

  • Is this song a bit close to "golden sands" here in America?

  • @OogleManiac The Statue of Liberty is French too by the way. It's actually French.

  • thank you : )

  • Another view on the world. Michel Houellebecq poetry ispired me. This inspiration bacame music and then images. Please visit my page.

  • This song was in "Mr. Bean's Holiday" and it sounded so good!

    Anyone agree?

  • @jorgeubaque well.. Charles Trénet wrote this song so...

  • @jorgeubaque No you suck

  • @jorgeubaque You might not realise that it was originally writen in French by Charles Trenet with the melody by Leo Chauliac. You will know it as 'Beyond The Sea' sung by Bobby Darin and others. I like Bobby Darin's rendition, but please do not scorn the original version.

  • @jorgeubaque

In English, this loses much of it's FRENCH beauty, because the original French lyrics are exquisite. The English lyrics are ok, but the French lyrics are sheer poetry.

  • thumbs up for searching "mer"

  • CAN SOMEONE TELLS Me where can I download this version, but without the interview in the middle.

    Does anyone know?

  • buy it on Amazon MP3 or google music maybe. I got it on Amazon.

  • @BuzzKillingtonTV @byrnon

i want sincerly to say great thanks to your comment.

this video is the best among others.

his voice and appearance becomes better and more commfortable with aging.

  • @yabumatsu he said that the song was not popular in france because it was too slow so and that it was forgotten for 3 years before the success in america

  • what dose he say in intermission of this video?

please someone translate it into english.

  • @yabumatsu He says that the song was a success in America. In France, people said it's not enough "swing", and that swing wasn't his genre, so the song was put away for 3 years and forgotten. After this intermission, in the second half of the clip he sings with more of a swing tempo. Great song either way.

  • j'aime beaucoup la FRANCE

  • @lapetiteDUCK: Beyond the Sea is the english adaptation of La Mer: the words are different but the music is the same.

  • Shut up

  • I think nobody sings this song as good as him.-unbelievable-

If you know this version, the other ones seem to be bad.

If you understand german, there is a version ,which is not too bad.

    La Mer - Liselotte Malkowsky

  • In Japan woman say "La mer" when they are making love, fack

  • @huzisakisyu "La Mer" means "The Sea" in French, which is much better then Japanese!

  • Does anyone else think this sounds like Beyond the Sea?

  • Great feelings.....la mer. Sailing by the coast of southern Chile. @Corral, Valdivia, Chile.

  • this..is...beautiful...*sob sob :")

  • those scatpaul comments were made by me; the other half had left himself signed in, lol.

  • it's beautiful in english too.... i always picture myself on the french coast when i hear this - and now i have a beautiful translation to transport me even quicker!

  • La mer /Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs / A des reflets d'argent La mer Des reflets changeants Sous la pluie La mer Au ciel d'ete confond Ses blancs moutons Avec les anges si purs La mer bergere d'azur Infinie Voyez Pres des etangs Ces grands roseaux mouilles Voyez Ces oiseaux blancs Et ces maisons rouillees La mer Les a berces Le long des golfes clairs Et d'une chanson d'amour La mer A berce mon coeur pour la vie
  • aw, lovely :o)

  • definitely one of the best songs ever!

  • What a great upload, amazing that you found this performance of a wonderful artist. Thank you.

  • How good can a song get? This is the answer!

  • Saugeil...

    man sieht werner quasi fliegen...

  • Der Mann, hat glaube das Meer gefunden ?

  • this song makes me happy ^^

  • What he says in the middle is somewhat ironic, I thought you guys would like to read it:

Basically, La Mer was a sucess... in America. When I sang it in France, people told me "It's nice, but it doesn't swing enough" -back then, thing had to be swingy- And so they kept telling me this, and La Mer ended up in a drawer for 3 years.

    *cue swing version*

  • its so cool

  • j'aime beaucoup

  • The translation from French to English reveals a truly silly lyric.

    The sea

    Confuses the summer sky's sheep

    With angels so pure.

    The sea

    Shepherdess of blue infinity.

    Really?

  • @dzummo wow, that's a really bad translation.

  • @dzummo French is more poetic in English...English is boring, if you translate most songs in other languages it sounds "silly" in English, because there is no poetic quality or beauty to the English language!

  • @thekingofmoney2000 Both languages have their degrees of pros and cons, lets not go favoring one over the other

  • This makes me want to sit outside, open a bottle of good red, eat some cheese and grapes and just watch people pass by.

  • @fodsaks

Wouldn't cheese and grapes be white wine food?

    Just askin'.

  • Brilliant! 'nough said.

  • Devil eyes at 7 seconds!!! The french are going to kill us all :(

  • @JackieMoooon : u made my day :) we dont want to kill anyone !(at least in Aussie ^^ )

    have a g'day mate ;)

  • @JackieMoooon He's not a devil. He's a goa'uld.

  • I found thus song after a Simpson episode with the beach whale bluella and a commercial I forgot

  • @4StankToe Fuck you. English enough for you, tête de merde?

  • @Rachegotter vilaine bouche de grenouille

  • @4StankToe google translators should be called "dumbass test". Why? Because to use it, the user must be ignorant of foreign languages, but more importantly, he must believe that a word-to-word translation makes sense. Thank you for proving my point, StankyToe. You do stink indeed.

  • @Rachegotter Wanker! AngloiSaxon enough for you, branluer?

  • @corydorastube "branleur", crétin. Corydoras, beautiful name for you, bottom feeder.

  • @4StankToe Fuck Off!

  • thumbs up if Mr. Bean's Holiday bought you here!!!

  • Thumbs up if Animals United brought you here.

  • Such feelings in his voice. Great.

  • He is so fantastic and he knew what good music was.

It´s sad that he passed away.

  • @supermariobros1000 It has to happen once in someones life time. :/

  • Some biographical on this perf. and of Mr. Trenet would be nice. Thanks

  • thumbs up if mr beans holiday bought you here

  • @Appleshaz

    oui~oui~ XD

  • Amazing melody. Amazing person.

  • 22 people have no heart.

  • The music form my dear Charles, the same that, the wonderful language french,is not for the inglish people.

  • @mbett99 Tis a language of food. Not of popular music, or Shelley or Keats, or indeed a global culture...

  • Both his versions of this are first class.

  • Whenever i feel down i always come back to M. Trenet, not only this song but others too and i just sing out loud along with him. Its so uplifting. La mer is my favourite though.

  • i cant even understand what his saying but i love the song

  • @rockthedragon123 .It's a love song to someone, un-named but out there and he's hoping to find that person.

  • this `jazzy´ version is not the best at all. It´s a sell out. The origin have a feeling and a heart.

  • @Smithfieldis Remember this song was written by the singer here, Charles Trenet. Not possible to be a sellout. This is his version. He can sign it. Really sing it!

  • @1727403

I know this song is written & sung by Mr Trénet. This live version with some Jazz is not the version that i like the best. You right, i´ts not a sell out. Just a matter of taste. I like this one too but the recorded version i like better. Wish i could sing like that..

    j.alain

  • A classic!!!

  • @MsCulorico This man wrote this song and he can perform it as he damn well pleases.

  • @MsCulorico You absolute philistine!

  • @MsCulorico

Yes, it does carry a very lively, merry mood and it is better than the English version. Thank you for stating the obvious.

  • The French Pavarotti, simply wonderful

  • Merci!!

  • The French version is the best.

Comme diraient les américains : get a life!

  • I forget how old I was when I heard "La Mer". The song stayed in me, never knowing anything about it. I had heard it in a movie I saw. Then I also heard "Boum", same reaction. At last I have been able to put a face, history and life to that amazing voice. When I hear these song I cry, love once more, and feel romance. He had a singing technique and delivery like no one I have ever heard before. These songs are timeless and, yes, haunting. A time capsule for an age gone. Splendid indeed.

  • This song is wonderful - questa canzone e' splendida.

  • I love listening to this man even though I don't speak French. He's exquisite to listen to. It's nice to put a face to a voice I love. Thank you Mr. Trenet.

  • Einzigartig in Verbindung mit dem Steve martin Film "L.A. Story".

  • ***** de luxe

  • I can see happiness and joy in his eyes.

    so awesome.

    thanks for upload.

  • The French Pavarotti, what more is there to say ??????

  • Amazing!!! J'aime cette chanson!! Amo esta canción!!

  • he is NOTHING like I thought he'd be! ....

  • He is NOTHING like I thought he'd be, no matter, still a wonderful voice ....

  • Perfect.

  • Such an amazing performance!

  • I too remember this from my early school years, always loved it , always will, first time I've had the Privilage to actually see him perform it. Thanks you Tube. p lowen

  • this song jst makes my inner soul so quiet and in peace :)

    .

  • Can't understand a word, but bloddy hell what song and singer, brilliant.

  • I went to a concert in l'Olympia yesterday - to think Trenet was on that same stage singing this song - however one of his worst versions. In English it is terrible and just doe not swing. His original version in French is a world wonder.

  • I danced to this song with my daughter at her wedding. Great song, great singer.

  • It would be handy if someone could say when this Olympia concert occurred. I mean, a bit of info, fchrissake. Trénet (1913-2001), je vous salute: a hero to all ginger mingers.

  • Great sound quality!

  • i don't understand French yet it has captivated me.

  • Grandios !!

  • Charles Trenet is the master

  • Charles Trenet était pédophile. Same word in English. He favored young boys. NOT exactly Gay. And certainly not the "good kind". (By the way, what is the "bad kind" of Gay? Pray tell.)

But La Mer and many of his songs are masterpieces. I grew up with his songs with out really thinking much of them. They were part of being French. Now that I am all grown up (and then some), I really love them.

  • Gay... but the good kind

  • This song makes me think of Jacques Cousteau.

  • @TotalPirateLuvva me too!

  • This man is my favorite Frenchman. He may have passed away, but he makes me so happy, he's fantastic. Kudos to France for making such a man!

  • @baribonnagirlsquad I am french, and I'm not sure I can be proud of being born in the same country. Of course, he was an amazing songwriter and singer, but we was also really racist.

  • @PasDideeDePseudo Funny you mention something about racism because I just recently read an article about racism in France. To be honest, all our countries have issues. I should know I'm American, we're like a dysfunctional family....But I think artists, singers and writers make things brighter in some ways. That's one of the things I like about Trenet--he makes things bright! :)

  • @baribonnagirlsquad ...Nation shall rise against Nation and Kingdom against Kingdom. A "Nation" is a race of people and a "Kingdom" is a country....This was predicted by Christ and reflected in the Gospels. Even different races within the same country hate each other, as you stated.. That is just stoopid, but it's not gonna stop.

  • I think his smile is so nice :-)

  • Here's a better translation (I think so):

The sea that one seas dancing along the clear gulfs has reflections of silver. The sea of changing reflections in the rain. The sea in the summer sky confuses the white sheep with angels so pure. The sea, shepherdess of infinite blue. See! near some ponds, those tall wet reeds. See! those white birds and those rusty houses. The sea has cradled them along the clear gulfs. And with a love song the sea has cradled my heart for life.

    --Translation de moi!

  • Wow. He could sing Bobby Darrin off the stage.

  • I got a different translation after listening to the few seconds he was talking. Couldn't pick up on everyone learning French. Cute... and want to brush up on my French. " Le Mer was a success in America. In France it was a very nice song. But it wasn't a swing song to sing with.(It isn't exact) That isn't your genre. (got that last sentence) It stayed in my drawer three years." And if wrong, I'm wrong. Back to eating my mushrooms and hear more crooning. lol Trenet is so terrific.

  • What an honor it would be to sit in that audience an absorb every bit of Charles Trenet memorable talent. He has the audience so captivated and me too.

  • How can you not love this and be transported back to the 40s...great stuff. Love the piano.
