  • The people who knew Judy and spent time with her in the last year of her life knew that she was going to die soon, not from barbiturate poisoning but from severe liver disease. Had it not been for her body failing her she would have survived this big boo boo at the medicine cabinet. I think God couldn't take watching her live in misery and depression and eternal stress any longer. So he in his mercy and wisdom took her to his bosom forever.

  • It is highly likely, Judy died from an accidental OD. Speaking from experience, when one has been addicted to Rx's long term, it is often difficult to remember how much you've taken and when. It is easy, especially with barbs and benzo's, to take repeated dosages because you've forgotten you'd already taken it. Add alcohol and it's a LETHAL combo. MOF, I'm expecting alcohol & benzo's to be the COD for Whitney H. once the results return. Anyway, always love Judy. RIP.

  • Did Judy die of excessive alcohol consumption? no, she did not. She died of a drug overdose. The overdose could have been accidental or a suicide. There is too fine a line between taking too many and taking enough when taking pills. We will never truly know. As for the alcohol - with a life like that, who wouldn't want to try and block out the world? Judy was an addict of drugs at least. As far back as her nervous breakdowns and collapses during filming at mgm, there was evidence of it.

  • SURE it's a tragic life when you die at 47 after multiple suicide attempts, multiple marriages and history of pills/alcohol to the max. Always looking for love/happiness and it all eluding her due to addiction. Chemicals=first in her life. She was lured into this by many people more interested in $ than her welfare. But, bottom line is she DID make choices that took her life too early. What you are hearing is out & out denial. She probably doesn' remember a lot of what she is denying.

  • Judy's sharp as a tack here! Very Witty, intelligent, funny & serious! Who'd believe in 3 months Judy Garland would be dead? The Greatest Entertainer in the World was gone.Judy's talent reached, touched many generations, still gaining new fans even 41+yrs after her death. Judy was NOT the tragic figure many think she was. Judy was very optimistic about life, adored & loved her kids, her fans. 45 of her 47yrs alive, Judy entertained people. Incredibly @29yrs old, She was already A Living Legend !

  • Judy was not an alcoholic. People close to her said that she would have many drinks laid out all over her apt or house that she would just take a vew sips and move about the home and when rather than going toget her drin, she'd have anew drink made for her. She was 37 years old at the end of 1959 when they rushed her to the hospital & diagnosed with Acute Hepatitis that damaged her liver was result of mass dosesof medication she took ever since she was a kid. She wasnt an alcoholic.

  • i love hearing/seeing rare judy :)

  • Judy was forever in denial about her pill taking or her drinking.Back in the 60's it was not something a person talked about. There were too few places that could help a person with an addiction problem.Judy was a great storyteller but when this subject would come up she constantly said it was untrue.

  • People think that Betty Ford was the 1st or one of a handful of treatment centers for alcoholism/addiction. Judy's 1st time at one was when married to Minnelli, around '48. Her last stint was at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston in '68. They've been around since silent films & like today were in quiet settings with a medical staff, supervision and activities, with gradual detox the goal. Judy loved to play-act & there are those even today who swear she was neither an alcoholic or addict.

  • @defundthewar Judy's so-called alcoholism and drug addiction are a fabrication, just like that Wizard in 'Oz'. For some inexplicable reason, Judy became a tragic figure for the press/media, as well as certain people who one could call pathological in their obsession for melodrama. Simply put, she was well aware of her persona, and indeed secretly enjoyed the chaos she often left in her wake. I think 'real' life was too boring for her. And, she's STILL working her magic..

  • @hirchik It has long been established that Judy was an addict of RItalin and Seconal; it would take a Holocaust denier type to dispute that. What has been debated was Judy's alcohol intake. The London coroner at the time of death stated there was "no question of alcoholism." Her earlier London physician stated she suffered from cirrhosis. Unless many are lying, she was rarely far from her vodka and juice. It is possible to appreciate Judy as a person & performer but also accept truth.

  • @hirchik A Holocaust denier cannot accept truth despite overwhelming proof. If you don't know Judy's favorite drink was vodka & juice, and she was rarely far away from this concoction, you don't know much about her. She was first treated for addiction around 1946, then intermittently until 1968. If those who say she was an addict are lying, the liars include Sid and Lorna Luft, Mark Herron, Vincente and Liza Minnelli, John Meyer, Mickey Deans, Mickey Rooney, bios by Frank, Shipman and Clarke.

  • @hirchik " I'm so offended, blah, blah, blah"

  • @hirchik You did not understand HIRCHIK's metaphor. BUt no surprise that we all have to know you are a Jew (Jesus bloody christ, what a bore.)

  • For everyone's info: The "Briget" Judy mentions is Birget Johannesen, who served as her dresser/handmaiden while in Denmark. Fran Jeffries, wife of singer Dick Haymes, was touring Europe with Sammy, it is probable they had an affair, but only one reason for the Davis-Britt breakup. Vandekilde & his wife, also heard here, let Judy stay in their home when Judy's husband ditched her. They sold their story about Judy as houseguest; it's worse than the Bore story. Both expected her to soon die.

  • @defundthewar You mean Mickey Deans "ditched" her? That sounds so permanent. But they ended up back together. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "ditched?" Thanks.

  • Except for her brief teenage marriage to David Rose, all Judy's husbands, even boyfriends, needed a break from her to get some peace, quiet and sleep, and retool for the slog ahead. Deans was no exception. It wasn't permanent, but Deans, after meeting the Vandekildes, saw the opportunity to split, stay at a hotel, and leave Judy in their care briefly. He took similar leaves of absence in London and New York, as well.

  • @defundthewar Jeez, you're such a f*cking know-it-all. Not.

  • @hirchik I was expecting you to contact me in time for Valentines Day. That said, I have to hand it to you. Here you were, calling me a know-it-all, so I thought you admired my lifelong love of reading, gathering information from reliable sources and sharing facts. I was absolutely preening from your compliment! Then my heart sank. Why, what's this? The word "not!" That negates what came before! Your sly wit sails over my head. I'm so grateful that you keep engaging me in conversation.

  • Thanks for the rare pics, including Liza's wedding. The story about Judy's overdose in Goteburg is 100% true, which is why her concert was canceled at the last minute although the musicians showed up. Judy's husband Mickey claimed the doctor called in wanted to give her a shot to wake up; the doctor denied it. In the end, they let her sleep it off, but it meant more legal problems; Judy was contracted to give 4 Scandinavian shows but missed 1. She died less than 3 months later, an overdose.

  • Is it just for me, because I do have the most horrendous computer problems, or does this just Stop at 1:03?!
