Obviously running as a person sworn to the constitution is not a 'vote-getter,' since it's not gaining many votes. Ron Paul does not believe the constitution is static, in fact he believes it's a very dynamic document, but, he does believe the president and congress must follow the law as it is written today. Find the part of the constitution which lifted the obligation of congress to go to declare war. I will be happy to agree if you can find it in the constitution. That's being strict.
There are plenty of things in the constituion that were not great ideas. We changed it for that reason. The house is required to change the document as needed and the only two things congress hasn't approved so far are its raises and going to war clauses. But, if you want to get down to the nitty gritty - The dramatic, much-debated vote on Joint Resolution 114 was taken on October 11, 2002. It passed the Senate by a vote of 77 to 23, and the House of Representatives by a vote of 296 to 133.
I understand I brought it up, but I am not going to debate the legality of the Iraq war. It will be debated for many years to come, and you, nor I will come to the final decision here. If you are defending the war, that is your right. I will not defend a preemptive, aggressive act by the United States which without monetary sacrifice by its citizens has nearly destroyed our treasury. Your children, and my children will pay for it, and their children will decide if it was the correct course.
I don't agree that with the people that say it was legal. It was not, and I understand that fully. I know that people get angered when you say "well, we have to stay now." But, really, should the debate just end with anger? What type of endings, alternate endings, are there for this situation in reality with conclusions that far outreach common anger -let's examine them.
First, I would like to examine staying with a troop surge. Iraqi citizens will most likely live a grim life, for quite a while. However, this will only be the case if they continue to fight the US army. A surrender, and peacful existence would be the result. I know, sound "charmed" and unrealistic, in addition you have the cost which is bankrupting us. The only good thing, really, is that we are keeping a rattle snake den in a cage, a cap on it -if you will.
Secondly, we should examine pulling out immediatley. This would be an instant benifit to our economy, and a long lasting one in theory. We wouldn;t be "controlling" Iraqi people and our people could sleep well knowing they wern't in an illegal war. However, the rattle snake den has no walls. Not only that, but the hornets nest has been poked. Not only that, but we've made the bears in the cage very angry at one another. I think you get my drift.
So -in closing on MY opinions related to the war, they vary. What I despise are simple minded, untrained indivuals who have only one side of anything. "it is illegal, we must come home!" "We must stay - we are preventing civil war!" I say -lets sit down, think this thing over, and really do some soul searching. with each decision having such obvious good, and such obvious bad -it is trully a decision and people from either side have great points and downfalls.
Yes, the management and cost of the war has been biggest problem with this war. We can also debate whether the portion of the war that wasn't preemptive (UN's Food for Oil scandel for building military, bullying the UN inspectors and kicking them out twice, using WMD on the Kudos, etc) was enough justification to go to war.
The problem NOW is whether we should leave, and allow Al-Qaeda to takeover and/or the government dissolves since they act like Congress, or continue the sacrifice. Hard.
Ron Paul has never stated this. If you listened to the man, instead of the spin on a few documents unearthed from the 90's, you'd know this to be true. Ron Paul is not racist, the socialist-welfare state is. A country controlled by greedy corporations is. Ron Paul is not.
This video proves that people are so used to being told hopeful things, that if a politician tells you the truth about what is most likely going to happen, people are confused and freak out. Constition wasn't something made to slave on for 100s of years. Our founding fathers argued over the Constition constantly, just like they argued whether they should go to war against Britian.
You DON'T want to be a strict constitutionalist if you have read all the changes made since, and still need to be made. Those ideas (like two-year armies, slavery, no gun-control, weak federal gov, etc.) made sense back then, not now. Ron Paul is just using the Constition as a vote-getter.

Obviously running as a person sworn to the constitution is not a 'vote-getter,' since it's not gaining many votes. Ron Paul does not believe the constitution is static, in fact he believes it's a very dynamic document, but, he does believe the president and congress must follow the law as it is written today. Find the part of the constitution which lifted the obligation of congress to go to declare war. I will be happy to agree if you can find it in the constitution. That's being strict.

There are plenty of things in the constituion that were not great ideas. We changed it for that reason. The house is required to change the document as needed and the only two things congress hasn't approved so far are its raises and going to war clauses. But, if you want to get down to the nitty gritty - The dramatic, much-debated vote on Joint Resolution 114 was taken on October 11, 2002. It passed the Senate by a vote of 77 to 23, and the House of Representatives by a vote of 296 to 133.

If you are defending the war, that is your right. I will not defend a preemptive, aggressive act by the United States which without monetary sacrifice by its citizens has nearly destroyed our treasury. First, I would like to examine staying with a troop surge. Iraqi citizens will most likely live a grim life, for quite a while. However, this will only be the case if they continue to fight the US army. A surrender, and peacful existence would be the result. I know, sound "charmed" and unrealistic, in addition you have the cost which is bankrupting us. The only good thing, really, is that we are keeping a rattle snake den in a cage, a cap on it -if you will.

Yes, the management and cost of the war has been biggest problem with this war. We can also debate whether the portion of the war that wasn't preemptive (UN's Food for Oil scandel for building military, bullying the UN inspectors and kicking them out twice, using WMD on the Kudos, etc) was enough justification to go to war.
The problem NOW is whether we should leave, and allow Al-Qaeda to takeover and/or the government dissolves since they act like Congress, or continue the sacrifice. Hard.
