Actually his refusal to allow a trade is WHY I think he turned his back on the Leafs. I don't blame him for leaving, he deserved to win a Cup in his career, but the fact that he didn't allow the Leafs to trade him away, and then signed with Vancouver the next season made it so that not only did the Leafs lose Sundin, but they didn't get anything in return for him. If he had've allowed the trade, at least the Leafs would've had something to show for it. One of my all-time favs, but that was weak.

He refused to get traded first of all because he wanted to stay a leaf and when the leafs said they didn't want him for there "rebuilding" he had mixed emotions if he was even gonna play another year. It's not sundin's fault if the leafs don't win the cup, he puts his heart and soul in every game. He is THE best player for the leafs, his teammates are horrible. He needs more people with his amazing talent on the team. It has nothing to do with his race, being europeen. He's an absolutely amazing player who stayed loyal to his team through thick and thin.
I don't think it's necessarily racial. It's more of a cultural difference. Maybe Sundin is content with winning a gold medal and doesn't need a Stanley Cup. He will retire next year or else sign with another club. Then we'll see where his loyalties are. The Leafs cannot resign him if he insists on a no-trade clause (and he will). We will not make the playoffs with or without him and we can't go through the same goat rodeo that he put us through at the deadline this year.

Sundin could care less about making the playoffs and winning a cup. He refused to waive his no trade because he doesn't want to get beat up in this years playoffs. This will allow him to extend the length of his career by 1-2 years if he chooses. I wouldn't sign him for more than $4m next year and there's no way i'd agree to another no trade clause for some loser who doesn't want to win the cup. He is not an effective leader.

Actually his refusal to allow a trade is WHY I think he turned his back on the Leafs. I don't blame him for leaving, he deserved to win a Cup in his career, but the fact that he didn't allow the Leafs to trade him away, and then signed with Vancouver the next season made it so that not only did the Leafs lose Sundin, but they didn't get anything in return for him. If he had've allowed the trade, at least the Leafs would've had something to show for it. One of my all-time favs, but that was weak.

He refused to get traded first of all because he wanted to stay a leaf and when the leafs said they didn't want him for there "rebuilding" he had mixed emotions if he was even gonna play another year. He played his heart out for the leafs, the best leaf ever is what they have to show for it. period.

Look he's one of my favourites of all-time and I don't blame him for leaving, but when he chose to wait it out and then sign with Vancouver, not only was he clearly not concerned with being a Maple Leaf, but he shafted an organization that had given him a lot over the years. You can say "he spent 13 years with us" or whatever you want, but it's not like he was being charitable. He was very highly paid.

oh yeah. I forgot about that. The Leafs have really been struggling to sell tickets since he left. I have seasons tickets. when Sundin left the ticket prices in the Greens were $82 for SSH. They were selling out. Now they are $95. They are still selling out. They were also selling out before he played for them. Next you'll talk about profits off of Sundin merch. Luke Schenn, Phil Kessel, Jonas Gustavsonn are doing just fine if the people at the games nowadays are any indication.

Sundin should stay with the leafs,I think these young players they have now have alot to prove and need only 1 to lead them .I think with Mats,a new younger and detirmed team with a new coach this team could and I think will surprise everyone this year.I think the leafs owe it to Mats and his fans to do everything they can to keep him in Toronto.If he sticks around until he does retire I dont think they'll regret it.He's still one of the top players, and has alot of hockey left if he chooses.

Blaming the best player we've had since Gilmour for us not having a cup is rediculous. Kovalchuk, Crosby, Thornton, Alfredsson, Ovechkin, Iginla. All incredibly valuable players who havent got cup. With Sundin we havent gotten there, but without would we have even gotten close? He was the best player on the team for his entire time with the Leafs, why not blame the no-cup issue on the players that didnt perform well? Or better yet, on the fact that in a 30 team league, only 1 gets the cup a year

I respect sundin and thank him what he has done for the team. I hope he goes somewhere where can can win the cup. Its not his fault the leafs could not get to the finals, its the leafs inability to put a proper team, and i am not talking about over the hill vets they have went with for the past 3 seasons. They leafs need to just rebuild with draft picks and look to the future. Now with JFJ gone, we can do that.

I don't think it's necessarily racial. It's more of a cultural difference. Maybe Sundin is content with winning a gold medal and doesn't need a Stanley Cup. He will retire next year or else sign with another club. Then we'll see where his loyalties are. The Leafs cannot resign him if he insists on a no-trade clause (and he will). We will not make the playoffs with or without him and we can't go through the same goat rodeo that he put us through at the deadline this year.

Sundin could care less about making the playoffs and winning a cup. He refused to waive his no trade because he doesn't want to get beat up in this years playoffs. This will allow him to extend the length of his career by 1-2 years if he chooses. I wouldn't sign him for more than $4m next year and there's no way i'd agree to another no trade clause for some loser who doesn't want to win the cup. He is not an effective leader.

That's another tired excuse. What about Alex Mogilny? Sundin had his chance in the Leafs' 2002 playoff run. He was surrounded by a Stanley Cup caliber team, but couldn't deliver. No European captain ever has. I do believe a euro captain will win someday soon, but there has been a consistent lack of desire, intensity, sacrafice, and leadership so far.
