  • Jackie Wilson also recorded for Mr. Gordy. So did Bob Kayli on Carlton and also Marv Johnson 1959 on Tamla #101 with Come to me. Tn\he label had a Gladstone St address. Barry's Motown labels including ANNA didn't come into prominence until the Mary Wells and the Miracles started hittig big time. I have Mirascles records on End & Chess.

  • I LOVE CRUISING IN MY 69 IMPALA CUSTOM LISTENING TO THE BEST MUSIC EVER MADE, DOO WOP

VINO THE VOICE SINFUL PLEASURES CAR CLUB NOR CAL

  • yes other acts that were from motown did release on chess ,you may not have known her by her real name on chess but she was famous as our darling tammy terell she was called tammy montgomery , also berry wrote songs for the brunswick deccal label the song that catipulted jackie wilson to stardom lonley tear drops berry was an excellent talented writer and producer talent scout you name it he did it

  • This has got to be one of the best songs I'v heard.

  • The MIRACLES were the ONLY Motown group that had hits in the Fifties. The others weren't even heard of yet.

  • Well, if we're strictly talking about the Motown label you're correct. The Miracles were the ONLY group to record for Motown since Bad Girl was the only record Motown put out in the 50's. If we're talking about groups that recorded for Berry Gordy then that's not the case.. Malcolm Dodds and The Tunedrops were recorded by Berry Gordy who sold the material to George Goldner

  • Great guitar work by Miracles member MARV TARPLIN !

  • Beautiful, classy performance, obviously the sound of a man and a group going somewhere! The song isn't quite up to he group - they did get the great doo-wop ballad they deserved with Bad Girl, though! I always found early Motown to be their most interesting period, even if it wasn't their most perfected. Thank you for this!

  • I first heard this on "The Miracles' Greatest Hits From the Beginning", released in 1964. I, too, am ripped that the rest of the group were not inducted into the HOF since most of the others contributed to the song-writing.

  • >> SMOKEY ROBINSON WILL BE IN CHARLOTTE,NC. ON APRIL 15,2011 AND I'VE GOT A FRONT ROW SEAT THAT I PAID $400.00 FOR > CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT DAY

    TO COME <<

  • I love the Early singles of the Miracles the Detroit Doowop Sound

  • This is really cool - never heard any Miracles' music on any label other than Tamla.

  • They had two Chess releases, the other being Bad Girl (which was originally on Motown). They also had a release on End

  • Smokey and The Miracles are two of my favorite artist/groups. I have loved their songs since their beginnings and All Thats's Good!

  • @poppasdbaby The Miracles and Smokey were all a part of the same group. He was not a separate entity . Smokey was a Miracle too....just like all of the rest.

  • What is the flip side?

  • The flipside is I Need A Change

  • @PJDooWop >> Can you please post the song " I need a change " PEACE <<

  • OTHER GROUPS may be COOL....

BUT, THE MIRACLES RULE !!! ( True in the '50's.... still true today) .

  • Love MARV TARPLIN'S GUITAR !!!

  • To induct Smokey ALONE, and leave BOBBY ROGERS, CLAUDETTE ROBINSON, PETE MOORE, RONNIE WHITE, and MARV TARPLIN out in the COLD...while ALL of the other Motown groups were inducted INTACT, smacks of unfairness. THE MIRACLES DESERVE INDUCTION, more than HALF OF THE ARTISTS THAT ARE ALREADY THERE !!!

  • Amen!!!

  • The MIRACLES were ALWAYS a MOTOWN GROUP. The reason why some of their earlier "Doo- Wop"singles were released on other labels like CHESS,END. and ROULETTE, is because The Motown Record Corporation, in it's early days, did not have national distribution,,,so they had to lease their songs to other labels , that DID have national distrubution, so that the songs could have national distribution and exposure.

"OTHER GROUPS MAY BE COOL....BUT THE MIRACLES RULE !!!!"

  • You're correct. The Miracles had records out in '58 before Motown existed, but those 45s were produced by Berry Gordy. When this single was issued on Chess, Motown did exist. The Chess Brothers bought this off of Gordy before he even had an opportunity to issue it on one of his own labels (he had 3 in '59 - Motown, Tamla, Gordy). In the early days Gordy it was a common practice for Berry to sublet his material to bigger labels for distribution.

  • Sorry.. typo in the above message. Berry's 3 labels in '59 were Motown, Tamla and Rayber.

  • @PJDooWop The MIRACLES' blacklisting from induction into THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME for the last 23 years is one of the WORST examples of POLITICS and prejudicial treatment that organization had ever committed.

  • PJ this song is amazing! i love the music of the Miracles,do you have songs of Claudette Robinson?

  • The only Claudette song I'm aware of (at least with her singing lead) is After All. There probably are others, but I can't think of them. I do have After All

  • @PJDooWop Look for MR. MISERY, WAH WATUSI, FATHER DEAR,and I NEED SOME MONEY on YouTube. All of these songs are by THE MIRACLES ...and all of them feature Claudette.

  • I think this is great .

  • One of MY Miracles favorites, too.!

Also, "Can You Love A Poor Boy" , "Bad Girl" and "What's So Good About Goodbye?"

    Thanks, PJ

  • Those are all wonderful tracks

  • thanks for this! what a beautiful song!

  • You're very welcome

  • Strangely neither side gave writer credits, but I've seen somewhere that I NEED A CHANGE was Gordy/Robinson, but that's not much of a stretch, eh? Steve

  • You're right.. Wouldn't be much of a stretch at all. I never noticed that there was no writing credit on the label. Good catch

  • love this song great early motown and on the cd i have called "MOTORTOWN GROUPS SOUNDS VOL.2" there is the beautiful 'bad girl' and brillaint 'way over there' great post pj

  • Very nice..

  • When we would flip all the 45's over on the box in the basement, and let em drop, this was the flip of "I Need A Change". All the blue light basement Gousters know what I mean.

  • Although I prefer this side, I Need A Change is a great side too

  • PJ - I know what you mean! I love early Motown also! This is great! Thanks PJ!

  • Spectacular...how about their version of "Who's Loving You Now?"?

  • Who's Loving You is a great tune Strandwolf

  • Sure is; wonder who threw it to Michael to do.... It's about the only song he did that I enjoy, pretty much.

  • LOVE IT 10 ☆♫☆♫☆

  • Glad you're liking it :)

  • I am going to have to explore the early stuff, because to be frank, i know very little about it. Thank you PJ

  • Wow Ricky.... They did a lot of heavy stuff like this in the early days. Where do I even begin?

    You Can Depend On Me

    Bad Girl

    Way Over There

    Would I Love You

    After All

    I Cry

    What's So Good About Goodbye

    I've Been Good To You

If you haven't heard any of these, check them out!

  • Thank you so much PJ.. I really appreciate you taking the time to list some great songs

  • Simply amazing, awesome song! I can never get enough of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles!! And on Chess records? Woo-hoo, yay!!

  • I love their early stuff. This is from '59 if I remember correctly.

  • Another first-inning home run from the Smokey and the gang. Thanks very much for this.
