i have the same problem and i changed everything in the differential and bearings and this damn cherokee is still making that noise. what else can i do?
bro i have the same problem they told me that i need to fix ALL the bearings and it not cheap. my whene i drive slow or fast u can hear the noise it so bad that with my radio on u can hear it that suck . wish all the best to get that fix .
if your talking about the roaring noise=bad wheel bearings make that roaring noise, worse as you accelerate by shifting the weight off of each tire side on turns you can identify which one it is....or could be both....lifting it on jacks (use safety) and spinning (car on) tires won't help cuz there won't be weight on them however it could prove that they are bad if it stops the noise.
My Jeep WAS making the same noise as you guys. I changed all bearing out in the rear end. I inspected all of the old bearings and the pinion bearings (both) were very pitted on both inner and outer races. The new bearings SPF brand from NAPA, new seals, and crush collar....back together and silent. No need to change shims because the SKF bearings were identical dimensionally. Overall an easy rear to rebuild if you have a press and bearing separator. I hope this helps someone :)
@dnazz32 no, I haven't fixed it yet. the noise hasn't gotten worse and I don't have the money to fix it nor do I have the time to do it myself, hopefully around christmas I'll get a chance to look at it.
my 98 cherokee sport has been making the same damn noise for 2 months now. not as loud, but when its in four wheel drive it gets a hell of a lot worse. its my front axel though,
Needs a change of blinker fluid. Nice fart at 0:24
I say open it up and look inside the differential. The Dana 35 rear end is a rolling piece of shit. Sounds like pinion bearings. Once they go bad, the ring and pinion will wear unevenly and will be noisey forever, even with new bearings. Where did the oil go? Is the rear end caked with dirt/oil? Good luck.
its soo the spider gears! mine is doing the same noise and i just found out its my spider gears.. was told by the first mechanic that it was my bearings, $2,000 dollars later and i still have the noise.. went back and his shop was shut down. found out that the gears just need some lube. By any chance are you or have to had any alternator problems as well?
just got a 93 jeep yj and it makes the same exact sound my dad said it could be the bearings gone bad but it could be the gears worn out if so hello new rearend
Sounds just like my 99 Jeep GC. It's your carrier bearings. They are failure prone. I priced the work to replace them and its around $500 to fix them.
I hear lots of tire noise,Block your front tires, jack up the rear end, give it some gas and see if it still sounds like that. Also if your vehicle is out of alignment it will make noise similar to that.
Holy crap WHOA man..! lol HAHA I wouldnt be drivin that man..That rear end's gotta be bone dry, or you need a snout bearing and/or shims to get that rear end gear inline...ouch.
<: o My only other idea would be a fried U joint ,the last one by the rear end. I've heard ALOT of funky noises from them before..especially 4x4s that hardcore off road..LOL
