@WujaKuBa To go any faster than 65 MPH in 3rd gear, which is what is goingon in the video, you need to change the sprockets, the sprockets dictate the ratio and modify the speed. The bike was too fast for trails, actually had to downgrade the ratio, which changes the speed to slower.

i got one of those engines in a 98 blaster with extented +3 swingarm and a-arms and its a beast! I have yet to find a 4 stroke anything to beat it flat out. These engines are wild!

i dont understand why ur Frontwheel dont come up by ur 500er maschines?? I have a 500er Maico Bj 04 and on hardground/middleground the Frontwheel comes up, up to the 4th gear with a 13/50 gearing! I Think the power is lost^^ sry for my englisch i am an german people :)

You are right, the front end does come up easily on these 500s, however I learned how to ride them just hard enough where the front end either barely comes off (feels like you're floating) or only sometimes comes up but usually stays down. Ya, 3rd and 4th usually hit the front end up. I don't slam the throttle, I ease the throttle, I start at like 1/4 throttle! I'm not a racer or trying to beat these machines, I just enjoy the bikes.

Ya, it's damn powerful. I had a CR500 and I was like nothing could be more powerful than this bike it's pretty powerful and fast. Then I got this bike, makes the CR500 look like a limp dick! It's pretty bad ass.

I paid $2k. The plug died a few rides after this video and a new plug is a big difference in acceleration. A typical MX 500 is stock geared for the track topping out at 75-80 range.  This bike has 4 gears and I am just shifting into 4th in the video, so going about 60-65 MPH in the video when I pass the camera. The 5 speed sand spider has 5 gears and 1st is lower than mine and 5th is higher topping out at 95 to 112. You can always change the sprockets to get it to go faster.

Notice I am only feathering the throttle to start off, I am not gunning it, and even when I m in the gears I only give it half to full, gunning the bike will flip you off the bike, it's got 56 HP in the power band. The difference between a smaller bike that does 80 is that this bike has very fast accelleration from 0 to x.

I'm not a racer, I'm accellerating much lower than the bike is capable of. The only bike known to out accerallerate this one is the 81-82 KTM 495..

me and my dad are working on a 1987 ktm250 left kicker..me i have a 1988 cr250r my dad has a 1989 rm250 they are all fucking beast..i was about to get a cr480 1983 for 500 it runs great but plactics are bad i could careless by the way it looks you know its how tha bike runs..im 15 i traded my 1982 yz100 that i got for free because tha guy couldnt get the clutch to engage i traded it for tha 88'cr250 very nice cr just tha rear shock was bad i bought a new 1 for $50 fucking wicked bike

The 82 and 83 CR480 I have heard is a good bike. The 81 CR450 sucks and the 84 CR500 is also bad unless you get someone to machine the head to fix the detination issue.

I have an 86 CR500, while it's pretty fast, quick and powerful, the Maico is much more because it has a much wider powerband and lots of low end power. The Maico has power at an idle, I set my idle up recently and when you let off the gas the idle can pull you. Nothing like that happens with the CR500.

i have a 520sx and that bike is intense while accelerating. im topped out b4 i can even blink, i have it geared for woods, with a 15/51 gearing. Im a racer and my bike accelerates faster than u can ever imagin.

In this video the bike is going much faster than your top speed and this bike is only in 3rd gear, still have 4th to go. The 520SX has a 30t cs, 81t clutch, 4th gear is 22t / 26t and then with a 15/51 gearing the bike tops out at ~50-55mph. In this video I'm doing near 65.

Also, I'm not even full throttle here, I only give it slow quarter to full throttle and it still rips! Kinda dangerous on this bike to slam the throttle down.

Search online for "ADB Test of time" KTM 525 Maico 490, they put a 2003 KTM 525 against a 81 Maico 490 (which the 83 is meaner than the 81) and they did a test against those two bikes. The 525 KTM was the open class king in 2003 when the test was done.

yeah i know my bike only tops at about 55ish i was just sayin i think it could possibly accelerate a bit faster than this.  The only reason im geared so low is cuz im a woods/enduro racer and ill never need nor would i wanna go faster than 50. its just so i can climb hills and do extreme sections. But nice bike very nice, i wish i had one of those the maico. Whats the power on ur ktm like??? ive heard sum bad stuff about the big katoom 2 strokes, like the dxc 540

Still rebuilding the KTM 495 so I don't know yet and I have the 84 which is not as powerful as the 81 (has 5 less HP and lower compression).

Yes, you're right it's very dangerous to go this fast in the woods!

It's hard to make out though in a video since it looks like I'm going real slow, also depends on the rider compared to someone who would race this bike I'm babying it, no power shifting, not even full throttle. Bike's also not in top shape, plug died after this ride
