Great initiative Cerf. Internet is for everyone not just for some countries!....Appreciate what you have done for the Pacific Islands. As one said "Cheers to the Chief!"
It was a great opportunity for us to have Vint at PacINET 2005 in Kiribati and 2006 in Samoa.
His biggest trick is to empower people. Meet him and you feel you have to be involved in the Internet. He has created a lot of vocations amongst the young Pacific Islanders that have met him.
I think it should be left to those who appreciate the technology. Not those who abuse it to distribute kiddie porn. Those who don't even understand and have no interest in the technology other than "How can I use this to get my dirty little rocks off? How can I take advantage of this for my own greedy little interests?"
"Everyone" is a very big word and includes a lot of unsavoury characters.
I've always thought you should have to pass a test before being allowed to use the Internet.
The internet is obviously great. Still, you have to wonder, what percent of electronic traffic actually contributes to the economy in a real (physical) and sustainable way.
I would join that.

P.S. Dr. Cerf is one of my favourite people to listen to. I'm very grateful to him (et al) for the Internet.
