@mookunderscore Depended on who you play. Play the Pistons and have that shit crammed down your throat. Todays "D" is crap. Back then you had to worry, now...foul!
I've just watched a short video recently published on you tube, showing K Durant vs L James in an exhibition game : they both sucks (no pretty style, no real show) !!
F*ck there's no comparison with the great MJ !!!!!!!!!!!
Jordan is the absolute best Kobe is my favorite right now and he can't touch me he can only show youngsters how to play ala Mike, because Kobe plays with the same intensity, passion and trash talk as MJ did and that is great considering the new crop of players dont have that, the only one who can be mentioned in that is KG, but nobody else
I have seen both players throughout their careers and I am telling you Kobe is GREAT, but MJ is the best that has ever done it. Nobody has been that unstoppable with the ball, ever. If he has you one on one from 17 feet, your dead. Walk back the other way before you get your ass embarrassed. @SLUGTHUG, sorry man, your blaspheming.
And Wilt scored 69 in 3 quarters...so what's your point? Had Jordan been as recklessly selfish as Bryant, and shot the ball non stop like a damn idiot, he could broke Wilts record. Jordan wasn't that stupid.
@SLUGTHUG dude you need to learn more about hoops MJ could have scored 81 in this game he only took 32 shots. If he would have took 45 shots he would have got there he would have went to the line 10-15 times so you do the math
If MJ started at the age of 17 or 18 and didn't get injured his 2nd year and didn't retire in 1993 and if the Pistons didn't make the Jordan rules, just Imagine how many more championships and points Jordan could have scored. That's about 40,000+ points, 10+ championships
@FrYLocK41 : jeb, your`re right there.but:we`ll never know;-)and what if kobe and shaq would have left theire egos aside and would have played few more years together?!some championships garanted!dont underestimate kobe.he is a different, more difficult personality, with a different background and entry to the nba.but he is as talented as mj.i also like mj+bulls+90s much more.but a consider kobe to be as good an the court.still,he`s no mj and he`ll never be.mj brought the nba to another level..
Thank you for posting these vids. I am excited about not only watching clips of Jordan but other clips of players like Barkley, Drexler, Ewing and etc. Younger fans of the NBA need to see how amayzing that the NBA was back in the 80s and 90s.
This one game proves the COMPLETE player Jordan really is: Sweet Steals, Sweet Passes, Sweet Jumpers, Sweet Dunks, Sweet Layups....Its enough to give you diabetes!
Wow, I remember being at this game. I was about 16 years old and had a blast. Jordan and Barkley both had great games. If I remember correctly, aside from MJ's 56 points, I think Barkley had 40 some points as well. I remember waiting outside after the game to get some of the players autographs. Great memories indeed! Thanks for posting this!
@jakekutter99 Sorry, it was the Sixers home game that I meant to refer to. Jordan scored 49 and Barkley 40. Both great games and both in the same year. It was a great time to be a basketball fan!
no one player can still make those moves.. Kobe comes the closest but he doesn't have the physical attributes that Mj had.. Combine Wade and Kobe and you may have mj...
I went to this game at 9 yrs. old! Jordan was spectacular and Barkley fouled out, Dr, J was suppose to play, but punked out ! Mike gave us the show instead even with the Dr. playing in NY this next night. MJ at his best!
It's funny that when some people see certain players today do something similar to what MJ did, they automatically think that they are closer to MJ than they really are, despite the huge disparity in consistency and efficiency. MJ dominated on both ends in the most physical era in the NBA. Many great players today have had the benefit of playing in a much softer league since 2001.
Well if u saw MJ play on the Wizards, he did play against this generation and at the age above 38. Most basketball players retire by age 35 and he was the only player at age 40 to score 50. Even with Jerry Stackhouse on his team and being deprived of being in the best shape of his life, MJ was still the go to guy on his team. MJ joined the Wizards to show them how to play but ended up being their best chance of making it to the playoffs. Unfortunately age kept him from playing all the games.
Yeah, he's still amazing after his second retirement. but sometimes he makes simple mistakes that he won't make in his prime. anyway, if he was in a good team, even in the age of 40, i think he can gain another championship.
True. Many folks were opposed to MJ coming back with the Wiz, but it's a good thing he did because he just proved that he could hang with the new generation just as easily. People also forget that he suffered broken ribs in preseason and that he played with two bad knees which had to be drained periodically. A less than prime MJ today would still dominate no problem.
Michael made the NBA more relevant. I remember a time in the 90s when more people cared more about basketball than baseball. Don't remember another time in history that was true.
Right now, more people care about basketball than baseball. Easily, more people pay attention to the NBA than the MLB. Basketball is the 3rd or 4th most popular sport in the world.
Man oh Man. It is 2009 and I still haven't seen anyone like Michael Jordan! I miss the days of watching him play on NBC Sunday afternoons. The only thing that can compare to it is watching Tiger Woods win a major or old fights of Muhammad Ali - There was something DIVINE about how Jordan played basketball.
@jimboedwardlee...MICHAEL JORDAN WAS MATCHED UP WITH 6'3 ANDREW TONEY AND SORRY ASS DAVID "5PPG' WINGATE...I WOULDN'T CALL THAT VERY TOUGH COMPETITION...WANT TO KNOW WHY KOBE IS BETTER THAN JORDAN?...KOBE PUTS 65 ON ALL-STARS LIKE 6'6 BRANDON ROY AND 53 ON SUPERSTARS LIKE 6'8 TRACEY MCGRADY AND JORDAN DOES IT OVER DWARFS AND BUMS LIKE DAVID WINGATE, 6'3 ANDREW TONEY, DANNY "11PPG" AINGE, JEFF HORNACEK, 6'3 JOHN STARKS, CRAIG"8PPG"EHLO, 6'0 KEVIN JOHNSON...BUMS THAT KOBE WOULD DESTROY BLINFOLDED
@bumperboy2sports still fighting for your poor kobe huh!!! shut up already with your weak argument saying MJ was match up with bum defenders. its funny u keep track of their height and PPG but u dont ever mention the one thing that separates the kind of defense MJ has to face compared to kobe every night... HAND CHECKING & NO DEFENSIVE 3 SEC RULE. remember this 2 names for the rest of your life kobetard... JASON KIDD (38) & JASON TERRY(34)... ring a bell? life's a bitch huh...
But he is a pale comparison. Jordan was faster, stronger and had ice in his veins. Kobe tries hard but he is not on the same level. Jordan =10 Kobe =9.25
@pvwolfgang You can clone MJ's body but you can't clone his faith, and that matters the most. Players like James White have far better body than MJ's but they couldn't play shit. However, maybe there's a way to creat a same MJ. If people can arrange a same life for the clone. like hire some actos to fake the clone's parents, teach the clone the same thing that MJ's parents used to taught MJ,set up the same kind of friends MJ growed up with, same school, same teacher, same everything.then maybe...
I grew up watching jordan play. yeah, he DID miss sometimes, he DID have bad days, but he would still score 20-25 pts (mostly off FT). For me, the main thing that separates jordan from anyone playing now is the style of the game. When jordan was playing, the NBA was dominated by defensive teams (bad boy pistons, hakeem and the rockets, ewing and oak tree with the knicks, jerry sloan D jazz, Alonzo mourning). No charge circle under the hoop, no emphasis on hand checking.. it was a tougher game
U r absolutely right about that...people talk about zone defenses but Im sure that with a great passing game, good finishers around the rim and good spot up shooters u can eat zones for breakfast...
HAHAHA...Yeah I have! Thanks for making my day! I just can't thank u enough for making me piss myself laughing! Defenses are better nowadays? Gimme a break! LOL...
Just imagine guys like MJ, Pip and Magic going to the hole against zones and either scoring by themselves or kicking to a wide open Steve Kerr, John Paxson, Byron Scott and Coop in todays game with today's soft rules! Now wouldn't that be a treat?
Kobe comparison my ass!!! he aint got a damn thang on mike night in night scorin 50 & 60 pts dat shit is retarded he built the bulls from the ground up he made em the team of the 90's (over all team sports) the man is just a plain gotdam savage on the court n so fearless
Man. At around 3:30, he stole the ball and the defenders were both right there with him, but his speed is unfathomable. Even with the ball he blasted past and just from half court got enough space for an uncontested dunk. Crazy.
Charles is definetely the best all around power forward of all time...damn that guy was a beast...but apart from the drive Barkley didn't have MJ's defense...I mean he could come from the weak side to block a shot with his crazy ups or play the passing lanes pretty well but he was never a lockdown type of defensive player like Mike...
that defense at 1:17 was horrible!!! sometimes u see wat some people are arguing about when they watch these videos. i dont think anybody will disagree wit me that was pretty bad lol
His defender got hung up on a screen and the roll defender, a center, had to play waaaay off Jordan at the top of the key or else he would've been blown by. Nothing they could do there.
Sorry Jordanlover23, I have to agree with deyonce. The "D" was shite. The defender felt the screen, knew it was there but instead of going over the top he decided to tick the "waltz" off his dance card. In the end the center was smart to play off Jordan. Back then, they still hadn't come to respect Jordans long range jumpers.
There are only 2 players in NBA History who has at least 23,000 points, 12,000 rebounds, and 4,000 assists. They are Wilt Chamberlain and Charles Wade Barkley!!!
the steal at 3:28 he outruns 2 sixer defenders while dribbling then slams it. people forget how fast he was. as a sophomore at UNC he ran a sub 4.3 40.
I think d wade has a chance to be the next jordan..after watching what he did in 06 in the finals..the great ones rise to the occasion..If hes healthy, just wait and see...jordan will always be the gratest though
If everyone who refs his games gives him 20 foul shots I might agree with you. If, however, they make the defender at least touch Wade before they blow the whistle, then he will be a very good, maybe great player, but never reach the mythical Jordan level.
Wade has no chance to be the next MJ. Why? Cuz his midrange game sucks compared to MJ. Cuz his post up game (if there is any) sucks compared to MJ. Cuz his movement without the ball and usage of screen sucks compared to MJ. Cuz his defense sucks compared to MJ's. Unless he suddenly acquired the learning ability of angels, he ain't gonna reach MJ's level.
@liquidgold It would have been so cool if Jordan in his early days, at his absolute apex of his athletic ability would have gone against Kobe in his prime. He would have ended all discussion about who's the best right there and then.
Hoopsencyclopedia let me tell you something about Mike, I think that he was down-right evil! I remember when Hersey Hawkins was a rookie (you know I'm a lifelong 76ers fan)and we played Chicago in back-to-back, home-and-away games. Well, in the first game in Chicago MJ "only" scored 33 points, but held Hawk to just 9! Here's the kicker though, back in Philly Hersey scores 9 points AGAIN!, BUT THIS TIME IN PHILADELPHIA ... MJ SCORED 52 points on, if I remember correctly, 24-29 from the field! ...
I don't like to call any player "the greatest of all-time", but as far as being a one-on-one player, offensively there wasn't anyone better. He ruined Hawkins, and he was never 'right' whenever we played the Bulls when he was a Sixer. Michael obliterated Hersey mentally, and I think that he and Bill Russell had the same mentality, because I've heard Russell state that he felt dominating your opponent was a necessity, because you never want your opponent to think he has a chance against you.
they may be true but its becuase of players like jordan that money in the league is the way it is now.........remember Jordan is noted for the 200 dollar shoe faze
mj is sick as always man this shit is legit. do you see anyone in the nba have a game like this consistantly. yeah thats what i thought. he brings that intensity 82 games a season. thats amazing
it doesnt matter what anyone says, in these highlights it looks like a man playing against boys.. in kobe's highlights, he looks very impressive, but he just doesnt look as quick as mj.. he definitely has better range, but the fact that jordan didnt shows just how good he was
man against boys was my 1st thought also...MJ didnt waste time chucking 3s like the whole league now does...Its 1 of the reasons they suck these days compared to old school, too many low% shots...MJ never took 6 3 pters per game for an entire season...Neither did Bird Magic, Isiah, Clyde, or virtually 85% of the league...Terry Porter was the 1st guy I remember who began taking more 3s than 2s...Cavs took a lot in late 80s.
Now everybody just chucks 3s...Jay Williams, aka white chocolate, has ruined his own career by doing this...Opted out of greatness by standing behind 3pt line, which wont open up lanes for JayWills teammates&allow him to utilize his passing skills best, caused him to have the worst FG% Ive ever seen from a guy who started for his 1st 6years...
Hes not alone...Its seems like most teams base play consists of the all star ball hogging while 3 if not 4 other teammates stand behind the 3 pt line instead of running real plays as a collective unit...
NBA is an entirely different sport than it was in the 1980s, and a far inferior one at that..
As bad&true as the donaghy thing is, its far from ther worst things about tthe league. Sterns riggin crap too, plus expansion, rule changes, megamoney, , preemptive priviledges contracts and hype, hoodlum mentalities, the belikemike syndroms but chucking&missing as though its a failed re-enactment of 1992finals gm1 night after night. Not so fantastic anymore, but clips of MJ still are...
made similar things with old school games as well as new school.Making these reels, u get used to how often theyre hit vs miss, how often bad nights, how much refs might bail em out on certain nights. Kobes not in conversation for alltime greats.
Magic, Bird, MJ, Kareem, Bill Russell.Guys who never played on losing team for despite careers of decade+, with rings earned, not acquired by being w/Shaq inwatereddownquestionably officiated era, unselfish enuf to put team first.
Jordan at 40 was still better than Kobe (who's never shot anywhere near 50%). If Jordan wasn't injured those final two years, he might have taken the wizards to the playoffs.
This game is from the 86-87 season. Still, 87-88 was Jordan's greatest year as an individualist--> 35 ppg, defensive player of the year, etc., and yes, these years were really the golden era.
I hate when kobe fans say MJ never got double teamed. You can see the 76ers trying to doulble him late, but he is too quick and gets away before they have a chance to get him.
All of you Kobe lovers who think that Kobe is the best, watch this video. People tend to remember the older and forget about the younger Jordan. Note the explosiveness & quickness!
doug collins was a step in the right direction, but once again he's not considered hall of fame material, and lets be clear phil jackson was made into a hall of fame coach by jordan. because he hasn't won anything without having the efficents on his side, which were jordan and shaq.
so with that said it must of been the players around him that weren't getting it done. not to mention alot of these teams jordan went against had hall of fame coaches. jordan was stuck with medicore coaching in his early carrer.
knowing he didn't have the talent on that team to win. that to me shows character. so this moron kenai has it all backwards. its obvious talent wise, that jordan was one of the greatest players of all time even in the 80s, without a championship to back it up.
if jordan was anything like he suggested he was, then he could of asked for a trade from the bulls. joined one of those title contending teams and won sooner, but he stuck it out with the bulls.
The description says Barkley all but disappeared in this game, but he had a great game as well: 25 rebounds (11 offensive boards), 6 assists, 17 points and 3 blocked shots isn't exactly a disappearing performance.

kobe doesnt score much on stars. have you noticed that?!?! usually he scores like 23-27 on them. rarely ill see him score 35
WannaBeRayAllen 2 years ago 4
But he is a pale comparison. Jordan was faster, stronger and had ice in his veins. Kobe tries hard but he is not on the same level. Jordan =10 Kobe =9.25

@JKOhioState1 BULLSHIT Lebrcik ain't even close to MJ
JohnMUTDMazzawi 1 year ago
@pvwolfgang You can clone MJ's body but you can't clone his faith, and that matters the most. Players like James White have far better body than MJ's but they couldn't play shit. However, maybe there's a way to creat a same MJ. If people can arrange a same life for the clone. like hire some actos to fake the clone's parents, teach the clone the same thing that MJ's parents used to taught MJ,set up the same kind of friends MJ growed up with, same school, same teacher, same everything.then maybe...

why do the commentators say "rite handed JAM!" he IS rite handed. MJ owns anyway
nuthman18 2 years ago
I grew up watching jordan play. yeah, he DID miss sometimes, he DID have bad days, but he would still score 20-25 pts (mostly off FT). For me, the main thing that separates jordan from anyone playing now is the style of the game. When jordan was playing, the NBA was dominated by defensive teams (bad boy pistons, hakeem and the rockets, ewing and oak tree with the knicks, jerry sloan D jazz, Alonzo mourning). No charge circle under the hoop, no emphasis on hand checking.. it was a tougher game
chefsparks 2 years ago 7
U r absolutely right about that...people talk about zone defenses but Im sure that with a great passing game, good finishers around the rim and good spot up shooters u can eat zones for breakfast...
flight23magic32 2 years ago
Have you seen KB42PAH's video on zone defenses? If you're ever feeling sad or depressed, just watch that video. It'll make you laugh your ass off!!!
LakersDynasty42 2 years ago
HAHAHA...Yeah I have! Thanks for making my day! I just can't thank u enough for making me piss myself laughing! Defenses are better nowadays? Gimme a break! LOL...
flight23magic32 2 years ago
Just imagine guys like MJ, Pip and Magic going to the hole against zones and either scoring by themselves or kicking to a wide open Steve Kerr, John Paxson, Byron Scott and Coop in todays game with today's soft rules! Now wouldn't that be a treat?

Man. At around 3:30, he stole the ball and the defenders were both right there with him, but his speed is unfathomable. Even with the ball he blasted past and just from half court got enough space for an uncontested dunk. Crazy.

Charles was up there with the best when he was on the top of his game. He just didn't have the drive that made Jordan... Jordan.
mj7958 2 years ago
Charles is definetely the best all around power forward of all time...damn that guy was a beast...but apart from the drive Barkley didn't have MJ's defense...I mean he could come from the weak side to block a shot with his crazy ups or play the passing lanes pretty well but he was never a lockdown type of defensive player like Mike...

deyonce 3 years ago
His defender got hung up on a screen and the roll defender, a center, had to play waaaay off Jordan at the top of the key or else he would've been blown by. Nothing they could do there.
jordanlover23 3 years ago
Sorry Jordanlover23, I have to agree with deyonce. The "D" was shite. The defender felt the screen, knew it was there but instead of going over the top he decided to tick the "waltz" off his dance card. In the end the center was smart to play off Jordan. Back then, they still hadn't come to respect Jordans long range jumpers.

you smok'n kobe bryant
TheCool170 3 years ago
If everyone who refs his games gives him 20 foul shots I might agree with you. If, however, they make the defender at least touch Wade before they blow the whistle, then he will be a very good, maybe great player, but never reach the mythical Jordan level.
TBlake34 3 years ago
Wade has no chance to be the next MJ. Why? Cuz his midrange game sucks compared to MJ. Cuz his post up game (if there is any) sucks compared to MJ. Cuz his movement without the ball and usage of screen sucks compared to MJ. Cuz his defense sucks compared to MJ's. Unless he suddenly acquired the learning ability of angels, he ain't gonna reach MJ's level.

this stuff needs to be played on ESPN, so the younger generation knows how great Jordan was and stop believing Kobe Bryant was better than Jordan.
liquidgold 3 years ago 20

MJ SCORED 52 points on, if I remember correctly, 24-29 from the field! ...
alcorderyjr 3 years ago
I don't like to call any player "the greatest of all-time", but as far as being a one-on-one player, offensively there wasn't anyone better. He ruined Hawkins, and he was never 'right' whenever we played the Bulls when he was a Sixer. Michael obliterated Hersey mentally, and I think that he and Bill Russell had the same mentality, because I've heard Russell state that he felt dominating your opponent was a necessity, because you never want your opponent to think he has a chance against you.
alcorderyjr 3 years ago
players aren't made like this anymore because the money in professional sports is out of control... same as the music industry... AMAZING!

it doesnt matter what anyone says, in these highlights it looks like a man playing against boys.. in kobe's highlights, he looks very impressive, but he just doesnt look as quick as mj.. he definitely has better range, but the fact that jordan didnt shows just how good he was
jacobtubejacob 4 years ago 3
man against boys was my 1st thought also...MJ didnt waste time chucking 3s like the whole league now does...Its 1 of the reasons they suck these days compared to old school, too many low% shots...MJ never took 6 3 pters per game for an entire season...Neither did Bird Magic, Isiah, Clyde, or virtually 85% of the league...Terry Porter was the 1st guy I remember who began taking more 3s than 2s...Cavs took a lot in late 80s.
dp233332 4 years ago
Now everybody just chucks 3s...Jay Williams, aka white chocolate, has ruined his own career by doing this...Opted out of greatness by standing behind 3pt line, which wont open up lanes for JayWills teammates&allow him to utilize his passing skills best, caused him to have the worst FG% Ive ever seen from a guy who started for his 1st 6years...
dp233332 4 years ago
Hes not alone...Its seems like most teams base play consists of the all star ball hogging while 3 if not 4 other teammates stand behind the 3 pt line instead of running real plays as a collective unit...
NBA is an entirely different sport than it was in the 1980s, and a far inferior one at that..
dp233332 4 years ago 2
As bad&true as the donaghy thing is, its far from ther worst things about tthe league. Sterns riggin crap too, plus expansion, rule changes, megamoney, , preemptive priviledges contracts and hype, hoodlum mentalities, the belikemike syndroms but chucking&missing as though its a failed re-enactment of 1992finals gm1 night after night. Not so fantastic anymore, but clips of MJ still are...
dp233332 4 years ago
made similar things with old school games as well as new school.Making these reels, u get used to how often theyre hit vs miss, how often bad nights, how much refs might bail em out on certain nights.

6 steals and 56 points, insane, 87-88 must have beend the golden era for the NBA
2brave2handle 4 years ago 2
This game is from the 86-87 season. Still, 87-88 was Jordan's greatest year as an individualist--> 35 ppg, defensive player of the year, etc., and yes, these years were really the golden era.
flandersfails 4 years ago
I hate when kobe fans say MJ never got double teamed. You can see the 76ers trying to doulble him late, but he is too quick and gets away before they have a chance to get him.

doug collins was a step in the right direction, but once again he's not considered hall of fame material, and lets be clear phil jackson was made into a hall of fame coach by jordan. because he hasn't won anything without having the efficents on his side, which were jordan and shaq.
zopoundsakpase 4 years ago
so with that said it must of been the players around him that weren't getting it done. not to mention alot of these teams jordan went against had hall of fame coaches. jordan was stuck with medicore coaching in his early carrer.
zopoundsakpase 4 years ago
knowing he didn't have the talent on that team to win. that to me shows character. so this moron kenai has it all backwards. its obvious talent wise, that jordan was one of the greatest players of all time even in the 80s, without a championship to back it up.
zopoundsakpase 4 years ago
if jordan was anything like he suggested he was, then he could of asked for a trade from the bulls. joined one of those title contending teams and won sooner, but he stuck it out with the bulls.
zopoundsakpase
