  • good song one of the best....

  • a truely a fine classic by one of the best sings around!!

  • this is my father singing

  • I used to play trumpet at a club in Denver in 66-67, and every so often a cat used to come by and sit in with the band, and he always sang only this song. Fond memories

  • 4 STUPID PEOPLE SO SAD FOR YOU

  • @keelo911 5 now LOL

  • @manudopeBEATS ONE OF THE MOST CLASSIC SONGS TO BE HEARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • TIO SAM LOVE U THIS IN UR LOVING MEMORY

  • I'm in the minority. I MUCH prefer this version to the "Live" version at the Regal. with all those silly girls screaming and acting a fool is just a distraction. This version is haunting and melodic and unforgetable. The live Rainbow '65 version would have had no meaning without this version. this version ofcourse is truncated and not complete. The section after the first verse should be longer "listen to me I'm down on my knees. I'm looking up above. Praying for your Love". All left out here

  • @sonwamac me too

  • @sonwamac I prefer them both. The screaming is a bit over the top, but Clean Gene aroused a lot of fierce passion in his female following, with good reason. The Q and A in the live rendition is what I heard first, and thanks to the miracle of youtube, I can revel in the precise, meticulously engineered, cleverly produced, very busy Windy City soul lamentations of The Woman Handler in studio. Background vocals lock it in. I sample this one alone so others don't see me well up with tears. Ouch!

  • @drjimiboy69 back in '65 when the live version came out I remember enjoying it very much. but now it seems that the live version gets more recognition. the original version touches me in a deeper place that's all. I do see value in both of them

  • THIS IS MUSIC...BRINGS BACK SOME GOOD MEMORIES...THANKS FOR THE POST.

  • I don't know where I was when I first heard this song but it always gets a response from me like I lost somebody close,A little tear jerker,,,,I got to see him live in San Diego,,,,memories to cherish

  • Thanks for posting this WSPFLATS23 this is a badass jam

  • Love my oldies!!! wow, soothing!!!!!

  • This is just a killer Windy City soul selection. Live versions destroy. Clean Gene Chandler was an apt moniker for this much underrated artist. He sang lead for a time with the Impressions. 'Nuff said about his bona fides. Any chance on someone posting video of a live version?

  • OMG, i fond it. my mother use to play this soung when i was 6 years old and every since tthen i fell in love with this song. And here i am now 25 and still in love with it. GREAT!!

  • Got to be one of the slow rubbin' songs of the era. Mr. Chandler made some wonderful stuff.........got love it brother!

  • there are 3 assclown's out there so sad to bad for them olde classic music is a need to keep things flowing for the next event in life for musicto come [my thoughts only[ don;t respond ]

  • I was in a forestry camp up in the San Bernadino mountains when I first heard this song. Lots of good memory's

  • Reminds me of days before being drafted for Vietnam. The corner jukebox was real back then in our lives. It cried, sang, and inspired us to who were are today. Thanks for the memories.

  • A Good Melody.

  • Wow great........bring back sweet memories....thanks ..SoulGranny

  • This is the record. The live version is off da hook. It has part 1 & 2 on it.

  • its a damn shame this great song was edited. This is not the original!

  • yes it is rencenmusic, this is the studio version

  • Curtis Mayfield and Gene Chandler mastered this.

  • what a voice!!

  • Gene Chandler has done this song over about 3 times and each time was even better. I prefer the live version at The Regal Theater in 1965. Pure Genius

  • Yes that was the best version

  • Classic song written by Curtis Mayfield, and sung by a classic singer.

  • never THE DUKE of EARL sang this toon...now ain't that a GROOVY SITUATION

  • hey dukie get yo ass home todo es groovy ..come on babe..please..=[

  • GANGSTA!

  • back in the day baby xxx

  • You have to hear the live version. If anyone has it please send it to me.

  • U CAN GET IT ON HERE

  • The live version is off the hook but I always thought this original was more haunting and beautiful...Gene is not having toplay to the audience here but just singing this great song...But what is on this video is a truncated version of the song...I don't know why the whole thing is not here...can you answer that for me WSPFLATS23?

  • This record played from the corner tavern the day I received my induction notice to report to Vietnam. But the song, like the characters of a bygone era, always remained, and still does.

  • memories eh? this song...describes something deep inside about rainbows I never knew until I heard him singing...

  • This really takes me back - I actually attended the concert at the Regal in Chicago when he performed this number.

  • *****

  • please post rainbow"80".thanx

  • I love this one. He seems to be singing to me..and only me. I saw him in person at the Regal in Chicago in 1967...He was an excellent performer and singer.

  • oye mano thanx for putting this song up...they had sum shitty versions up here...this is the baddest song...

  • my father played with this man he played the trumpet on this particular song when i found out i said omG

  • Fawesome.

  • Rainbow "80" is my favorite but I love this too :)

  • Im 23, and this is one of my favorite gene songs...im more familiar with rainbow80...thanks to my mom, and aunt!! they love him too!!!!!!

  • Greeneze54....where are you from? I'm turning 60 right along with your sister, this year...This was the part of my life in high School...when I was a good dancer..

  • OMG... This is my older sister's favorites songs... she turned 60 this month... I still haven't purchased anything for her...I am gonna search for this for her.. thanks for the memories... I am 53 and I remember it well! Man, what's happened to our music today?

  • this is my hubbie's jam

  • Love It!!!

  • Rainbow "65" is my favorite. He breaks it down.

  • This is so much better than Duke Of Earl.Clearly this is Chandler's best.I agree with the other poster for someone to upload other versions of this classic.

  • Gene was biting on Rainbow 65 too.

    My favorite.

  • I'm with you 2cats0dogs. The version that you're talking about is titled "Rainbow 80", and it was the shyt!!! It is so hard to find THAT version of the song, and like you said, if someone could upload that it, I wish they would!!

  • I love this song! But he has a much better version.

The one where he goes, "I just wanna reach out and.... I just wanna reach out and bite cha!"

It is awesome. I wish someone would upload that version. ;)

  • There's a version called Rainbow '65 where he's singing live and he says that part. If you can download it somehow make sure its the "extended" or "full" version because there's two parts to Rainbow '65.

  • type Gene Chandler rainbow 65 you'll get it.

  • I love it! Brings back memories

  • one of the best SOUL records of all time!

  • You can say that again. Though I love "Duke of Earl" by Gene, this song grabs me like few songs do.

  • Thanx lots of cool memories
