I've always considered Danny Seraphine to be an adequate but not outstanding rock drummer. Saying that he "has pioneered the style of Jazz Rock Drumming" overlooks the contributions of the real founders of fusion drumming, including Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Lenny White, Narada Michael Walden, Bill Bruford, and Jon Hiseman.
@Roadsterscom I agree. Cobham, White (two of my favorite drummers) and alike are different beasts entirely, but so is the music. I wouldn't consider this Jazz Rock (ala Chicago, Steely Dan) Fusion at all. This kind of music is more on the pop/soft rock kind of spectrum than jazz. Whereas fusion is vastly more jazz orientated, taking influence from progressive rock and world music. Seraphine is a great drummer in his own right, but I would not call or compare him to a fusion drummer.
